Took off from my campsite around 8:00am, about 30 to 40 later came across this awesome bridge on the 101. Road my motorcycle to from Cali to Washington this was the way back 101 is definitely a must if you are around those parts. Also Id recommend going over that bridge later on in the day if youre on a motorcycle, way to windy & misty at 8:00am I added a video to the main page
This bridge was awesome!! I wish the speed limit on the bridge was lower to allow you to enjoy the drive. Half the bridge is Washington and the other half is Oregon. And the views of the Columbia river are gorgeous! One thing I hated about the bridge was the number of dead birds on the road. If you want view the bridge itself, I’d recommend checking it out on the Astoria side - mostly from the river walk.
One of the great bridges on the west coast of the USA. Even if you dont need to get to the other side, its worth the trip. You go right over Desdemona sands, which is cool to see at low tide. The Astoria side span is way high to clear ocean going ships allowing you to see out onto the Pacific Ocean.
This beautiful bridge connects Oregon and Washington. In rain or sunshine, at sunrise or sunset this bridge is great to photograph. It is an easy drive to either side as well. The bridge is only one lane each direction so pack some patience, there are times where it can be very busy. Enjoy the scenery as you cross. There are often ships anchored on the river, to the east that are clearly visible from the bridge.
Quite an experience driving over! However I do wish my wife wasnt in the drivers seat and having a complete meltdown over how high it was. Her anxiousness rubbed off on me. Still amazing driving down towards Washington. Loved it.
How do you rate a bridge...it supported the car and we travel across the mouth of the Columbia which saved us from swimming, always nice since this part of the Columbia, shipwrecks arent unheard of. The bridge was safe and has a great roller coaster like down part perfect for winter sledding. I hope this helps. Oh and it goes from Oregon to Washington or visa versa.
This one of the greatest, scariest, but most importantly, the most iconic bridge of all time! It is one of the few bridges that have a flat part and a slope part. Known for being the bridge that connects both parts of the Pacific Coast Highway in Oregon and Washington, it is also one of the scariest bridges ever made. If you really want my advice, well, dont ever go on this bridge during the night or even in the early morning.
Wonderful bridge! Excellent views, and amazing engineering. Wish there was a side walk so pedestrians can walk across, but that’s ok. Highly recommend to visit this bridge.
If you like bridges its worth driving over... Over by motel 6 you can get a pretty good picture from underneath the bridge.
Such a cool bridge! I cant believe its so long. It was a lot of fun crossing over it when I went down to Oregon with my friends. If you have the chance to check it out or drive over it, do it! Great connection between Washington and Oregon, and you feel really safe and secure while driving over it.
Right around the town of Olympia Washington starts US 101. It heads northwest from there, and lackadaisically meanders around Olympic National Park as it begins to head south to Aberdeen. Traveling south from there you pass through Raymond, and then head towards the coast where you finally come to Long Beach and Ilwaco, Washington. Then, just a few miles south of there, you see it- The Astoria-Megler Bridge. Gateway to the Oregon Coast. At an astounding 4.1 miles long, it is the longest continuous truss bridge in North America. It crosses the Columbia River at the town of Astoria (on the Oregon side) and is about 14 miles east of the mouth of the Columbia River as it empties into the Pacific Ocean. It’s one of my favourite bridges to photograph. This image is a long exposure, taken underneath the bridge on a very cloudy autumn morning, just after sunrise. The Astoria-Megler bridge is, to me, a starting point. Several times a year I drive from my home in Vancouver B.C. for a trip down the Oregon Coast and once I reach the bridge, I know I’ve finally reached the beginning of the Oregon Coast. And that’s when all the fun begins.
Always a great view and a little different every day.
This bridge is just amazingly cool. 4 mile drive over the water. Nothing much to get to or special about Astoria, but little sea side town and if you are here check out the bridge.
What an amazing bridge had to go across it several times.
Its a pretty surprising suspension bridge linking Washington and Oregon which is often missed because everyone usually takes I5. To go this route itll take around 1.5 hours out of your way to get there. But its an interesting experience it ascends towards the Oregon side to let ships go underneath. Do it once, but then skip it for future commutes if you want to go straight to Portland or Seattle.
I have never seen but heard homeless people poop on bridge.lol jk
I enjoyed it, there were many dead lizards that kept trying to eat my tires for w hatever reason so I strapped them to my wheels with duct tape and shoved my 10 shaft up their arses and ketp on driving. Overall, an pleasant experience.
Beautiful experience driving across this bridge at sunset
4 miles over beautiful water, I drive it often, it never disappoint!
A very cool bridge!
The bridge has a great guy in a white truck that picks up things and helps if a car gets stuck on the bridge. Ive never had to wait more than 10 mins for any problem on that bridge
Make a point of going over this bridge. Its so well worth the drive. Beautiful views of Astoria and the docks. We were lucky enough to come on the day with a massive cruise ship moored near the bridge. It gave us nice views of the cruise ship, too.
Beautiful bridge with mint color. This bridge through to Washington to Oregon.
We played The Cure as we drove over the bridge - it was a beautiful afternoon! The drive along the Washington Coast was quite serene and absolutely gorgeous!
Interesting... great view from the bridge looking down woof
Steel bridge about 4 miles long. Connects Oregon with Washington via US 101
A beautiful bridge to photograph. Seems to go on for ever.
This amazing bridge is 4.1 miles long.
Cycling over this bridge should be on every cyclists bucket list! What an incredible view and surreal experience being so close to the river. Pick a good weather day though as the shoulder is narrow and you dont want to blown into the traffic
Really great bridge, very photogenic!
It was a beautiful place to photograph. Quite a cool drive too. I wasnt there to actually cross into Washington but to enjoy the bridge itself.
Drive up to the clouds and back down, beautiful drive
Great views both from and off the bridge
Bridgey McBridge Face is 4.076 miles long
Scared me to death because Im afraid of bridges however it is beyond beautiful.
We played some epic soundtrack music when we crossed the bridge. It was awesome. Who cares about Washington, the bridge is what you are there for.
Beautiful scenery going from Astoria Oregon to Washington State over the Columbia River, during the summer time see whales Pelicans seals and of course the salmon running in sturgeon fishing
We visited Oregon in late June and this bridge was the one of the many nice attractions around Astoria. You can get a great view of the bridge from the top of Astoria Column.
Back in the day you had to pay to cross!
Beautiful as always
Mind blowing bridge to cross
Longest bridge I ever drove on
Now that the construction is done its a lot better of an experience.
Up close view of one of two king rivers in the West. Very impressive. Hard to comprehend what it would look like when Lewis and Clark saw it, before agriculture siphoned from it.
Not sure why we can review a bridge but as bridges go this this is one is a good one its ...... long and sturdy. Yeah im going to go with that long and sturdy.
Its a bridge how do you rate a bridge
Love this bridge! Not only is it the best way to get for Astoria, OR to Washingtons Long Beach Peninsula, it is beautiful 4.1 mile drive across the mouth of the Columbia River.
You gotta Love a great bridge! :)
As far as bridges goes, its my favorite.
It looms large over the huge Columbia River. Its a wonderful ride across but it takes you away from the lovely Astoria, a great place to stay and play.
Its pretty. Its impressive. Its long. An it offers great views of the river.
Had a great visit to Astoria and it was a must to drive on the Astoria Bridge over the Columbia River to Washington and back.
Make Sure to drive across the bridge even if you arent headed to the other side. So cool
Really cool bridge to drive across... and with a great view!
Such a cool bridge. Took it across to long beach. Worth the drive!
