A must see if youre visiting, Astoria. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The self guided tour is amazing! They even had a little fun scavenger hunt for my son. They offer a bundle package for the jail museum. Pricing is very reasonable. They have a cute gift shop where you purchase your tickets.Deducted 1 star for not being wheelchair/handicap friendly. Sadly, can not take some family or friends to experience this museum because of that.Masks are required.

The Victorian architecture caught my eye. You get your admission ticket in the carriage house, which has the gift shop. The person at the desk has you watch a 10-minute history video about Captain Flavel and his family before you go in. It’s worth watching. Most of the rooms in the main house were roped off so you can’t go in and get a closer look. You’ll likely spend less than an hour here. The garden is really nice.

I absolutely am in love with historical buildings and all of the history that goes along with each structure. The Flavel House is a stunning victorian mansion that has been impeccably preserved. The detail that was incorporated in the late 1800s is something I believe every one should see in person. The price to enter was very reasonable. The free video was an unexpected treat. The staff are super welcoming and friendly. My only negative thought is you only have access to 2 floors. Not a very thorough look through but worth at least one visit. Yes I do recommend.

You buy tickets in the guest house, then walk to the main house on the other street. I found asking questions to the staff was really helpful in understanding what is original and what isnt or reacquired later from the family. Only the first two floors are open, but they have pics of the higher floors. Overall, I found the experience quite interesting.

Im glad I went, but it was about what I expected. If you have toured turn of the century houses, this fits that description. Nonetheless, it is one of the better ones that Ive seen. (Why only a 3? If a place meets my expectations, it gets a 3. Hopefully this makes my reviews more useful.)

This place is amazing. We were searching all day for something fun to do and this was so much fun and it was not expensive at all. I loved seeing all things from back then. Everyone there was so nice and you can even go in the rooms and see the bathrooms and cool things like that. You even get to watch a free movie (you dont have to buy a pass to watch the movie) that is very nice to watch about the history of him and the town. You should check it out.

Very cool mansion home built by the richest man in Astoria 130 years ago. Nicely preserved and presented. Very reasonable admissions fee of $6 a person. Self-guided tour, but there are staff on hand to tell you more about the home and the customs of the time.A very interesting way to spend 2 hours. Not an experience you will soon forget. Plus-the home was the museum Mikeys Dad worked at in the Goonies when they were riding their bikes on the way to their adventure and the dad was taking down the flag outside!

Really great that they are maintaining this house, tragic to think the town we’re going to demolish it at some point. It was a bit disappointing not to be able to see the captain’s view from the tower. I’m sure the fire marshal could come to an agreement to only let one person at a time up there.

I really like touring old houses but I was a little disappointed in this visit. The Flavel family seem to have been very important to the history of Astoria, and they seem to be a very respectable family. It makes you appreciate the era in which success was respected rather than condemned. But the whole house wasn’t open to view, and there was a woman lurking around making sure no one did anything they were supposed to. It kind of ruined the fun, and I get why they do it, but it wasn’t a welcoming atmosphere in my opinion.
