Historic place which is well maintained. They have established good social distancing guidelines. There is enough place outside as well to sit and relax. Amazing views of the river front and you can have a tour of the ship as well! Staff is extremely courteous and well informed. Highly recommend to stop by during your visit to Astoria!

I visit every chance I get. This museum is truly exceptional. The layout and exhibits provide a remarkable insight into the local maritime history of the Columbia River Bar. Currently there is an exhibit on the Yosegaki Hinomaru, personal Imperial flags Japanese soldiers carried into battle during World War II. This was a moving exhibit and an impressive symbol showing reconciliation between two former foes.

This place was such a wonderful stop on my travels down the 101. Fairly priced, lots to do, cute gift shop, lots of learning, artifacts, history... its just so awesome if youre a history buff like me. One of my favorite exhibits was the whale baleen. It was so cool to see how massive the baleen actually was. I learned about grey whales in school & their hair in their mouth that filtered out the plankton in the water. There is just so much to do here, I cant even begin to list it all.

Ive lived on the Columbia River for over a decade and learned more in one trip to this museum then I had in that ten year span. The homage to the brave men and women of the coast guard who tirelessly put their lives on the line in the the worlds ship graveyard is fantastic! The tribute to the Native tribes was also fascinating from an anthropological standpoint. Well worth the small admission fee.

If your curious how your salmon meets your plate or restaurant or you might be intrigued in the bar pilots that captain and navigated maritime vessel up and down the Columbia across the bar into the Pacific ocean the grave yard of the pacific and learn about the coast guard, the ones who risk there own lives just so others may live. Then you have came too the right place! Awesome view of the Columbia river, the lighthouse ship that is moored along with a couple of the coast guard vessels, that is if theyre there and not out at sea doing what they do best

I really like this museum. Great displays and friendly staff. My favorite display shows a 44 footer coastguard boat on a huge wave. This display shows how dangerous the ocean can be. My dad was in the coastguard stationed in Astoria right near the museum. I really like this museum and I recommend visiting it.

We just visited for the third time in a period of about 5 years. This is our first visit with the social distancing guidelines, and they have worked hard to keep from taking all the fun out of the experience while keeping to the guidelines. My entire family always enjoys a visit here. The history is amazing and the exhibits are very well done. I have no idea how it all fits in the building but don’t miss a chance to visit.

It is the most worth visiting place in Astoria, Oregon, and It is very near from the center of city, so you can visit comfortably. It is very interesting because it explains the regional characteristics and historical changes of Astoria under the theme of sea, industry and river. Of course it is educational.Astoria is now a very small place, but in the past it was an important point where inland transportation through the Columbia River and maritime trade in the Pacific Ocean intersect. It is a well-run museum that makes people want to visit again. However, the items in the gift shop are not impressive.

Great place, very well set up if youre the museum type. Which 3/4 of us are... Our 14yr old, however, would rather hike or do a ropes course or something else adventurous, so she blitzed through & did every interactive thing she could find a bunch of times & was bored for the majority of the time we were there. I dont blame the museum at all, the rest if us really enjoyed it, just want to give a heads up for families that have a kid like ours. If she had been less mature, or too young to be able to go ahead in her own, it might have been a challenging day.

The Columbia River Maritime Museum is a museum of maritime history with its showcase of valuable relics and nautical knowledge. By using a telescope on your physical map this museum is charted in Astoria, Oregon which is hands down the perfect location spot. The Columbia River carries many ships. The museum has a docked ship you may check out and find what traveling life is like for seamen. Many ships are there to watch sail away only to be replaced by large cruise ships that dock for folks to come to stay in Astoria and many visit this museum. There is also a futuristic sculpture outside of the museum kids climb on. And for a little extra the museum has a 3-D film for your viewing pleasure. Anchors Away and dont get seasick -- have a great time. Be good humans!!

Fun facts made boring. While it is interesting walking around and reading everything, dont expect to see much thats real, or not just words/replicas behind glass. Some museums have an amazing array of things to do. Little kids are entertained, adults feel like they learned something, and so on. Sadly, this is not the case. Some of the things were interesting, but it felt like I had to convince myself they were interesting. Besides the few odd things, I probably could have learned more (and had more fun) reading it online. Also, youre required to wear hand sanitizer before entering the gift shop, but I cannot stress enough how important it is to bring your own. The kind they have smells and feels disgusting.
