We had an amazing hike with our dog! The path is beautiful and clean. There are little creeks and pretty meadows all along the path. Our hike was about 6 miles including walking from parking spot.We had to drive down the road a bit for a parking spot on the side of the road. Bathroom up the path were clean.
Nature is Beautiful, I really enjoyed this hike into Sturtevant Falls, it wasnt too busy and it was just as the Santa Anita winds were brewing up so the climb down was somewhat windy. It was amazing seeing that though, leaving the city with calm air and coming back down with strong winds across the valley. The hike is pleasant, mostly clean and well maintained. The Fall was beautiful and peaceful, looks amazing through binoculars. Would like to see the restrooms a bit cleaner but honestly there should be many people who volunteer to clean up our trails and maintain our local wildlife habitats. I would definitely recommend this trail to my friends and family. Its a great place to reflect on the world around us.The Earth maintains us, so lets help maintain the Earth.
A parking pass is needed and can be bought for $5 at the store located on site. Parking fills up super quick. There are restrooms but theyve been closed during Covid-19. Theres a place to buy essentials and food. They do ticket here.
This hike is rated difficult, and If you are up for the challenge, it is worth it!!! 14.5 miles, 4600 ft. elevation and beyond beautiful. Mount Wilson is one of Southern Californias six-pack of leaks. We started the hike going away from the falls and finished with the falls. Most people begin the hike with the falls. Get their early, because parking is limited. Although there is a place to fill up your water pack at the peak, the restaurant at the peak was not opened, so bring snacks and a lunch. There are bathrooms located at the parking lot and at the peak. Dogs are allowed, but must be on leash. Enjoy!
Update: Oct 2020, Chantry Flat parking CLOSED until Spring 2022 because of the Bobcat fire which started September 6, 2020. Gate is closed three miles from Chantry at Sierra Madre. No access to visitors. 17 of 80 historic cabins burned. Adams pack station and parking for the best hiking in Los Angeles is here. But parking fills up early morning on Saturday and Sunday. There is a gate three miles down the road that is closed and locked from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
It is often full in the morning. You might wonder if you really need to pay $20 for private parking. Why don’t you come in the afternoon when people begin to leave from morning hike. You can find lots of close spots around the trailhead!
Show up early if you want to park in the lot. On a Sat there were so many people it was like trying to park at the mall before Christmas. It is popular for a reason. :) Hike in more than a few miles and you won’t see too many people.Trails go to different places from here, my photos were from hiking Mt. Wilson from this trailhead.
It’s full in the morning all the time but it’s available in the afternoon. Permit is required but there is a paid parking at the top ($20). Usually you can also park far away and walk by a mile to the trailhead. There is a picnic area and campground. Several trails start from here including Mt Wilson
Really nice experience. Parking is $5 and you can buy coffee, hot tea, or hot chocolate from them. There are also other snacks you can buy. Finally there are bathrooms you could use
Great place to do an easy hike (the shorter ones). Gets pretty crowded though !
Amazing ive been hiking to this place dor years and its always a great new adventure i recomend it to everyone limited parking also beaware ita a reversed hike you go down hilll first then your way back is up hill 2 mile hike the views awesome and lots of trees to cover you up from the sun you can even bathe in the water fall if you like
Currently closed due to fires . I can’t really provide a star on the actual site
Lots of graffiti down there. Decent hike and Im a big dude. It takes a while to get use to while going back up. The waterfall down there is ok. I guess being in Oregon before its nice to see little areas with some water in Cali. Not that big a deal it might be best to come after some big rain other than that the water is not that full.
Its close you the trails, clean area, all trails are safe to walk,
Amazing... a lot of people.. but other than that, amazing!
Bring a walking stick and good luck finding parking
Great place to hike. Plenty of different routes for whatever you can handle. Great waterfall destinations. Easy parking and always clean.
Great easy hike, still some water on the falls
Wow, beautiful place
This is one my favorite places to hike! The hike is perfect for hot days since most of the hike is accompanied by fresh shade from the surrounding trees. Its like they want to to make it to the waterfall. I recommend taking water anyways and a light snack.
Great place to hike. Leave plenty of time to get on the trail and back. The rocks, trees and waterfalls offer a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature.
Parking here can get a little tricky if you get here later than 7:30. The first time I came here, I got here around 8:00 on a Sunday and the parking all along the street was packed so I continued to the parking lot. A day adventure pass costs $5.00 and includes your parking for $24 hours - a year pass costs $30 and gives you the option to pay an additional $5 for a second car. In my opinion, if you’re hiking a lot or visiting a lot of parks, it’s best to get the year pass. This place also has a smaller parking lot for $5 that has a small shop where you can buy food and drinks and other gift items
Great hike. Not too hard. Go early. Parking gets full and people be getting mean
Safe parking lot with lots of info about the trails ahead.
The market which sells parking is closed Monday through Friday but you can still leave $5 bucks and park in there parking lot or you can buy a pass a REI on Santa Anita before you head up the hill. Nice moderate trails.
Really nice view and shady foresty
Nice get away from the city without actually really leaving the city
Because of the wonderful waterfalls
First time hiking and the group I went with couldnt have picked a better spot. Go early because parking can become difficult to find. 5 bucks gets you a parking pass. We hiked Hermit Trails. Beautiful streams along the way...walk till the end and a beautiful surprise awaits.
Nice camp ground for a day hike or as a staging area for more adventurous activities. Pack station sells items and has good food. Rangers and U.S. Forest Service people are very friendly and helpful.
BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL. The stream is super soothing and relaxing. So many trails to explore. Had a beautiful adventure her. Will be returning frequently.
Very nice location and central starting Point for many trails. Get there very early on weekends as the lot fills up qucikly
Polices are time to time driving this area for visitors safety which it is one of the most important factor in these days.
Beautiful place to hike!
Its a great hike. Awesome cliff diving. Just go super early or youre going to have to hike up the road an extra mile just to start the hike
Nice place on a cloudy day (expect alot of people up there)
No where near enough parking spots because the trail is a fun hike and everyone knows it!
Always come here for practice hikes
Very nice area to hike or kick it
Magnificent! Dont forget to bring some water for yourself and watch out if you have kids in there
I love all the hiking trails here, so many paths to take and all beautiful. Recently, I saw the llamas, cool addition to Chantry. Parking has gotten very difficult to find, must go early, on the weekends.
Hike was a good one. But gate was locked when we tried to leave at 2:30
A great place to mountain bike.
Great spot for many different hiking trails. Parking is pretty limited so its recommended that you show up as early as possible.Lot was full around 6:30am.
Nice place with Fall coming in colors are changing beautifully..
The bathrooms were even open very nice
Lots of trails with varying difficulties. Lots of beautiful views.
Be prepared for no phone service.
I went with to loyal companies that like the outdoors.
Great for hiking and biking. Very busy on the weekends.
Always a great place to go and freshen up and take your pets!
Love this place for hiking, just be careful with animals, specially bears, we found a baby cub last week and rush to avoid the mama bear
I hike from here every week. My only complaint is the condition of the restroom
One of the nicest trails as far as view, theres running water, nice canopy of trees, waterfall, some sketchy parts to.
Awesome hike to do very refreshing.
Best hiking trail around 80 percent shaded with running streams cannot beat this trail.
I love the trails its amazing, tranquil the nature its beautiful.
Its empty on weekdays but we cant find any spots on weekend
I love it
Super busy but thats because its such a good place for outdoors recreation
Great spot for picnics and such but make sure you park near the ranger or pack station if you can. My car was broken into while I was hiking Mt Wilson.
Very beautiful and relaxing natural place
My favorite LA County hike for decades.
Always happy to go there
Great location for a quick hike.
Superb hiking trail. Parking is terrible.
