I guess it is just a coincidence but I like the way this museum focus it’s exhibitions because the museum focusing on the geology and astronomy, both of which have very different sense of time. (For both a million is not old or big)Obviously I guess it’s just a coincidence because New Mexico has diversified geological features and resources while home of Very Large Array.Let’s not forget the new age influence of Native American cultures...Yet I found it very interesting and help me to have better understanding about New Mexico, Thanks to very knowledgeable and friendly staffs and volunteers.Definitely recommend to visit especially if you have a kid.

A very well-designed museum and fun place to visit. You start with the formation of the universe, Galaxy, solar system and Earth. Then you learn how life formed on Earth and the earliest single celled life forms. From there you go through exhibits of the different periods of life and end at current day with our battle against climate change. It specifically focuses on the history in New Mexico which is unique to other natural history museums you may visit.

A really great place to visit. They have lots of exhibits, unfortunately many of them are closed because of the pandemic. I really liked the fossil room and the volcanoes exhibit. The only minor irritation was the snarky, unpleasant young lady at the front who acted like we were bothering her. Otherwise, a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.

Really great inexpensive trip for anyone who has a dinosaur loving kid! I was disappointed in how much stuff was closed due to COVID. Makes zero sense to close the theater and planetarium. Its not like they were very busy. And closing all the interactive exhibits but kids are putting their hands all over everything else there is senseless.

The staff was incredibly friendly and some great dinosaur exhibits. We paid half price to enter at 4, and hour before closing, so didnt get to see everything, but even at full price this is a good find! There were a few exhibits that were under construction or needed some TLC, but overall we recommend this place!

Really nice place with a ton to look at, it was way bigger than I expected and the pricing is very reasonable for the whole family. My only complaint is that we often found ourselves going through the exhibits backwards because the place is kind of a maze, and for younger kids most of the exhibits dont do much to hold their interest because they require a lot of reading. We really enjoyed it, and even just walking through without reading much spent a good 2-3 hours there. I liked seeing a focus in many exhibits tying them into the local area.

Had a great time with the family this past Sunday at the museum - AMAZING Dino exhibit - really makes you think! Were there for over 3 hours and could have stayed longer but we got hungry... we’ll def be back!! The place was super clean, employees seemed happy to be at work (something u don’t always see nowadays) and the diff exhibits were entertaining and educational for our kids and my hubs & I. Do wish there was a snack bar or something so we didn’t have to leave - we missed the Black Hole show that we’d paid tix for but hey ... just another reason to go back!!

We go every few months on the New Mexico Resident Free Sunday. If you are a New Mexico Resident go to the museums website to find info regarding this. This month the theme is brain. We appreciate that our natural history museum is so interactive. No matter the age of the *kid.* Our children are 16+ and still enjoy going to the museum. We as parents remember yesterday year when the youngest was extremely scared to enter into the Lava flowing caves no matter what we or her siblings tried. Looking through the Bees eyes .... on an under 3 ft tall pole. Planetarium and space and stars. The youngests favorite even still today, the Geodes, and rocks...We knew the dinosaurs /T-Rex was gone, but it was hard to see the empty space where he had been. My kids have all camped under the T-Rex at a Scout event or other summertime activities. We appreciate the many fossils through out the museum but our big T-Rex will be missed!

I went on a family trip to Albuquerque and visited this place to view the history and also learn about it. Its a 2 story building. There were beautiful exhibits mostly about dinosaurs but still so amazing. Some of the Natives history/culture as well which was delightful to see. We viewed one of those 3-D movies about nature (I forgot what it was called) in the theatre and it was incredible. The photography of snowy mountains and dry desert canyons and nature shots of different animals. It was truly breathtaking. Overall it was very neat! My wife and I love the New Mexico museum of natural history and Albuquerque, New Mexico. We live in Amarillo Texas, which is four hour drive from this museum in Albuquerque. We have twice driven from Amarillo all the way out there just to visit this museum. One of the star attractions when you walk in is the life size tyrannosaurus Rex. Its standing in the lobby and blinks its eyes and moves around a little bit and about every 20 minutes comes to life and starts roaring and scaring people because it looks so real! They have a real moon rock on display all kinds of things about dinosaurs because apparently there were a lot of dinosaurs in New Mexico back in the day, they have a cafeteria, they have free admission for Albuquerque residents. They have senior discounts. you can spend hours here and learn something new every time you visit. They have a planetarium with different shows running throughout the day. They also have a movie theater and other small screens showing educational videos as you pass through. They have real dinosaur bones and giant reconstructed dinosaurs made out of bones. Its a great place for school children parents scientists and adults in general. Highly recommended! One of Albuquerques main attractions is right here!

Came in last week to see what changes have been bestowed onto the museum since my last visit a year earlier. Its often been the case over many years that the NMMNH does its best with the limited number of resources available to them. I say this because for whatever reason, this museum appears not to have the same level of funding nor community sponsorship that other museums in Albuquerque apparently do.Despite this, tickets prices are reasonable. If you wish to catch a planetarium show or see a special exhibit, you will have to pay a little extra. Special deals are offered however. Such as free entry on every first Sunday of the month.Upon my latest visit, the first thing to catch my eye was the state of the art animatronic dinosaur stationed in the lobby. It comes to life every 30 minutes and is great addition to the museum. The rest of the museum however needs a little tlc. While it is kept clean and the staff are helpful and friendly. Much of the museum hasn’t changed a great deal since I would visit as a kid during the early 2000’s.Most of the interactive exhibits definitely show signs of their age. The decaying carpet and paint in many areas of the building are difficult to ignore. Plus, during my last visit several parts of the museum (such as the volcano and time machine exhibits) were either broken or closed off to visitors. In all, the problems that plague the NMMNH have little to do with how the place is managed. The staff and curators do their part well and without them the museum would be in a true dire state. The necessary funds are simply what it needs and so desperately lacks. However, if either you or your children have an intrigue for the natural sciences, this museum is still worth a visit.

They have a large amount of different minerals and rocks throughout the museum, so if you or your children like geology or planet formation this is a great museum! The Dynatheater also has some great movies it shows. The newest exhibit is the Narcotics area and its impact physically, culturally, and socially. Then, you travel upstairs to find The Brain. Some really awesome interactive ways to learn around this subject, for young and old.I really wish that the museum could have more funding to do some much needed upgrades, but over all, the staff is always friendly and willing to help and walk you through the museum. A wonderful museum for all ages, with dedicated, helpful volunteers. Its possible easily to spend an entire day. Has a smattering of exhibits both permanent (space, geology, dinosaurs) and traveling. Impressive permanent items: a scaled reproduction of the mars rover that can have its camera manipulated; dinosaur skeletons & fossils. Went for the traveling show about The Brain (which came from the American Museum of Natural History in NYC), and running through Nov19; dynamic, interactive, informative, fun, and engaging exhibit; reading will be required to get the full experience. Movies and planetarium shows cost extra to general admission, but enhance the visit A LOT. The Dyna Theater experience (high def. 3D film) is spectacular. One show at a time runs on the hour. Planetarium programs are the standard sort; but 2 p.m. shows are live & interactive w/ audience able to inquire about the night sky features in ABQ for that date. By the end of day, a few interactive exhibits with computer screens get hung up/ frozen (computer needs a reboot), or stop functioning. A few areas in the permanent exhibits have neglected lighting. Yes, theres a is gift shop. The site is handicap accessible. A cafe on site for meal time on the premises.

Each and every employee/volunteer were happy and helpful. And a big shout out to Leonard the retired paleontologist volunteer who we happened upon during our visit. The Museum of Natural History and Science in Albuquerque, New Mexico is more appealing to kids than to adults. Why? This is a typical small-size natural history museum with gems, animal bones, and dinosaur replicas, but few displays looked a little dated, some were broken or down for repair. Also, there was not enough fossil exhibits, although New Mexico is known for archeological digs.If you have visited large Museums of Natural History in other big cities, don’t visit this place unless you have kids with you. Fortunately, this place is very kid-friendly and there are a number of interactive displays for the young. If you go with kids, spare at least 2 to 3 hours to see and enjoy everything. One advice, start at the top level then move down the ramps to follow the space history displays — from the Big Bang to the present New Mexico.
