This railroad museum is one of the best that Ive been to! Lots of different interactive activities, even during covid. There was a caboose, steam engine and boxcar that we were able to go in! The whole back of the museum is a model train layout with several different gauge engines. We will definitely be back!

We visited today and loved it. My 2- and 4-year old enjoyed watching the model trains and pressing all the buttons. Unfortunately we werent able to go in the caboose or the train but it was nice to look at them too. Also a lot of train history from the area displayed.Everyone who loves trains should definitely stop here and have a look. Prices are not too high.

Very cool little museum showing off the history of trains as well as 2 massive dioramas of model trains complete with interactive push button control system allowing visitors to run different lines and models at the press of a button. Multiple guages with large and small sizes as well as other small interesting features not related to trains but running on a track. From a car in a garage to a gas station and a McDonalds drive thru. Informative videos as well in the relatively small theater. Staff is friendly but they do close a couple minutes early so be aware if youre coming in right before closing time. Great spot to spend an hour or two for adults and kids alike.

Awesome. This is the word which best describe this little, but fascinating railroad museum. They have some stuff to look at but the main attraction is the giant (!!) railroadcity with many trains and cars. If you like railroad or have little children they will love this. There are so many buttons to push - wow! The details are great - many many hours have ben invested in this attraction. Definitly worth a visit. Highly recommended. The managing ladies are doing a wonderful job.

Honestly not very kid friendly. Youll notice all of the dont touch signs there. There is some interactive sections where they can run model trains, but even then you have to hover. No running, no pushing multiple buttons, not a very easy place to take a 6 yr or so. Son enjoyed playing in the trains most and not the museum. Transportation museum in Salisbury is much better.

Very cool place. I practically had to drag my 14-year-old daughter who is pretty much jaded by everything, but she ended up being utterly charmed by all the cool little details in the model train layouts. There are three of these, the biggest of which has recreations of parts of downtown Wilmington and Wilson on one end and mountain scenes on the other. There is also a good deal of information on local railroad history. Plus the code symbols used by hobos.

There’s nothing better on a threateningly rainy day than visiting a museum, or two! And what better place to visit than something historic that continues to affect our every day. The railroad system in the USA made a huge impact in so many different things and the Wilmington Railroad Museum keeps that history alive and well in an interactive way! Hands down, the best “to-scale” working model trains I’ve ever seen! Does not disappoint!!

I was expecting a small museum with a few choice items. Instead, my wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed this museum. It not only has a large train layout that is really nice, it also has a history / museum section, it has a video theater with some custom videos, and it has a childrens section. in addition to all those things inside, outside it has an engine and a couple cars that you can climb inside. My wife who is not the railroader also enjoyed this museum very much; I think that says a lot about museum! In short, it exceeded my expectations. Highly recommended.

Very neat, probably better if you are a train fanatic.Very cool model train set ups that have a lot going on a a ton of attention to detail. There is a play area for kids with a wooden train set, which is nice for letting the adults either just look around or relax for a while.Would be nice if they had more to look at in terms of actual trains (they have an engine, a boxcar, and a caboose), but space limitations are certainly a factor in what is offered.Wouldnt drive to Wilmington just to see this, but if you are in the area its a nice museum to check out.
