Its heaven in Earth..so peaceful
Always a wonderful place to pull the boat up on and hangout or camp out!
Beautiful serene place to visit. Only accessible by boat.
Empty Beach, nice surf, soft sand, and lots of shells. What is there not to like. Nice paddle in a kayak to get over to the island come watch out for the tides and the winds and can get very shallow, but its strong currents its quite a long paddle. Beautiful sunrises hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
I brought my own kayak and parked my car at the trails end boat ramp, youre not supposed to park over night but nobody got upset with me.The beaches and islands of the reserve are only accessible by water which is awesome because that means there arent quite as many people there. The waters were calm in the intercostal waterway and the only thing to be wary of on a kayak was drunk boaters.I had a great time camping on the islands and kayaking along side turtles jellyfish and dolphins and all it cost me was gas money and food/supplies.This place is awesome and there arent many like it left anymore so please always remember, be safe and responsible, be kind to your fellow enthusiasts, and always leave the island cleaner than you found it.
Awesome! Local hot spot
Great place to beach up and spend a day or camp out. Some great fishing to be had just be carful of the turtle areas.
Remote. Great beach
Good outing and adventure. Navigating the intercostal was tricky due to the volume of traffic. I believe it was directly related to the amount of chop down the coastline from the approaching storm. It seemed to drive even the larger 40 foot boats to navigate down the intercoastal rather than cruising the coast line. Had to use extreme caution due to being on only an 18 ft skiff.
I always enjoy a sunny day out on my boat anchoring off the shore of Masonboro. Its especially nice if your boat has a shallow draft and your local knowledge of the area is on par because then you can access much more secluded and private sections of the island. The only time of year that is bad on Masonboro is 4th of July, tons of unruly college kids and lots of LE. Dont forget the sunscreen and remember to LEAVE NO TRACE!
Best spot in the area, best enjoyed when not over run by drunk people.
Nice island to spend the day at. Get there early and enjoy a smaller crowd.
Peaceful evening kayak to a wonderful sanctuary. Walked to the southern point of Masonboro and enjoyed the surf and the sights of a protected reserve.
I paddled over with friends. Crossing the ICW wasnt bad except for ride boaters who seemed to think it was funny to try and swamp us. The nature preserve is awesome. We found all kinds of things washed up like it was all along the coast 30+ years ago.
Thank goodness its summer! We go every chance we can! There are so many different islands to choose from! If you want to be alone, ride until you find a spot. But if you want to be with/around people turn at the North end. Holidays are great out there as well! July 4th / memorial day weekend/ labor day weekend exc are awesome! Live music / food vendors ON BOATS. Its a really good time, great family fun, & fun for all ages! A MUST SEE IF YOU HAVE A BOAT OR GET A CHANCE TO RIDE !
The island is a wildlife sanctuary, just south of Wrightsville beach. As a wildlife sanctuary island, you need a boat to get there. If you have your own boat (even a kayak), it is easy to get there from Wrightsville Beach. There are also charter boats and taxis that run out there. Modest price per person. You will probably land on the intracoastal side of the island. It is a short hike over to the ocean side, where there is a beautiful beach. Amazing that there is such place so close to civilization!
Great place to go and get away for the day. If you go, please take back with you what you brought and leave it pristine :)
Loven this place...Visit, enjoy...Dont trash the island, thanks.
Beautiful water and all around great boating and kayaking to the island!
If you have a boat it is a great calm place to go toInsta is yankeesowen8
Beautiful island was a bit more corwded than I expected but full of shells bring a lot of sun screen
Very beautiful and a great place. ICW is dangerous for kayaking except in the early morning
Little slice if heaven, no parking meters or snobbery. Mainly locals.
This is an awesome place to anchor your boat for a while and relax in the beach.
There are no homes or vehicles on this island reserve, only nature. You get there by boat, sometimes rough choppy waters and on the ocean side, swift under currents and high waves. Its a great getaway day, evening, or overnight. Get dropped off and arrange pick up time. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. This area was highlighted in Southern Living Magazine including Wrightsville beach and Scenic Tours by Capt Joe. If you want a day for you or your family, this is the place to explore, over 8 miles of beach. You can pick any spot on the sand, and all youll see and hear are the waves.
Beautiful piece of paradise only accessible by boat. Please pick up your trash!
A piece of heaven.
WOW. No buildings, no nothing, just pure, raw, in your face nature and beach. Boat access only with no docks.
Very pretty Island, tons of shells, thoroughly enjoyed our trip
Beautiful Island! Great place to visit!
This place was really nice and hardly anyone was out there during the daytime on a Thursday. The ocean side has some really rough waves and it was difficult to swim, but the inland side was way more calm and the water was warmer.
Its just a island. Good beach.
Its a awesome place to camp and hang out. But the federal government shouldnt take land from people who already had it before.
We spend a few hours here every year. Super wide pristine beaches, great surf, unspoiled dunes. Absolutely beautiful!
Beautiful island with only wildlife, plants and seashells. Never as busy as as the actual beach but just as nice. Perfect for picnics and just hanging out.
Had the island to ourselves last night. Launched kayaks out of Trails End Park, paddled to the inlet, and found some primitive campsites near the beach in the first cove area. Great experience all around! Will definitely be going back.
A local treasure! If you ever wanted to feel like you have an island to yourself, this is the place. Unspoiled beauty!
Water was nice. Very busy area.We traveled from another area and found the people not as friendly but no issues.
Really wish people would not leave so much trash/ beer cans behind... I always bring more home than we took.. thinking about putting up a mesh trash can and a sign..
Hot. Bring water. Very pretty.
Great place. Awesome for families if you can get there!!
Great times on the 4th of July
Great outdoors and beautiful beaches.
Almost Pristine and unspoiled. Worth the annual boat rental just to spend a few hours over there each year on our family vacations.
Heaven on Earth!
Such a nice and peaceful place. I visited later on in the season which meant that it wasnt busy at all. Great place to bring the dog as well and enjoy the beach off leash.
Awesome undeveloped barrier island.
Great place close by to get away from the rat race in Wilmington!!
My favorite relax and swim spot.
Awesome island!
A critical seabird nesting area with sensitive vegetation. Leave only footprints, take only memories, and enjoy the tranquility of this very unique sanctuary.
Its a challenge to get to, but worth the visit for the privacy alone. If you e got a small boat, or a big one, you can scoot over to this island reserve and avoid the throngs on the beach just to the north. Great place for birding or fishing in a kayak.
Best place on the planet!
Fun island reserve to spend some time hiking and playing at the beach.
Accessable only by boat, you can get away from the crowd relax on the show or explore the island
Beautiful beach and vreat place to search for shells! Brought 50 students with Carolina Ocean Studies and had a blast!
If you can make it out there you should!
Got the grand tour from my nephew!
Very beautiful quiet scenic nothing but nature around if you are a fisherman a birdwatcher or just want to go play on the beach this is the place to go avoid the terrorists(tourists)

Its was very cool
NC beauty at its best.
Beautiful, unspoiled beach.
Beautiful natural place
Great place to bring your kids and view a protected preserve. You can pick some shells and see all manner of animals.
Amazing day
Absolutely beautiful. Like being on a private island.
I love visiting CMS and seeing what cool science they are doing
So good
Go early. Beat the crowd.
Clean, deep enough for boat, and family oriented.
Blue water. Beautiful
Beautiful and private. Boat access only
An outdoorsman paradise! Fish, kayak, boat, or swim.
