Absolutely gorgeous! It’s like having your own private island. Just be careful of the tide so you aren’t left high and dry.

Best beach the east coast. Same as it every was for millennia

Beautiful island that is well worth the extra effort to get to it. The extra payoff for having to take a boat is so many less people and the unique ecology.

Beautiful reserve. We go out here with the Wrightsville Beach Tours on their Pirate Tour and sometimes with our kayaks. Its a great area for a picnic and for seashell and sand dollar collecting. Lots of fun.

This little island is so beautiful. Uninhabited and only accessible by water, it still feels untouched by humans. The sand is white, the water is blue, and it feels like youre a million miles from home. (Bring a trash bag, to keep it that way)

Total nature like youre one of only a few people on the planet. No development and hardly anyone around you, like your personal private beach. Getting there can be tricky and best by kayak at high tide.

One of the few barrier islands left along the east coast that has not been touched by any development. A great place to get away from the beach crowds!

Empty Beach, nice surf, soft sand, and lots of shells. What is there not to like. Nice paddle in a kayak to get over to the island come watch out for the tides and the winds and can get very shallow, but its strong currents its quite a long paddle. Beautiful sunrises hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

I brought my own kayak and parked my car at the trails end boat ramp, youre not supposed to park over night but nobody got upset with me.The beaches and islands of the reserve are only accessible by water which is awesome because that means there arent quite as many people there. The waters were calm in the intercostal waterway and the only thing to be wary of on a kayak was drunk boaters.I had a great time camping on the islands and kayaking along side turtles jellyfish and dolphins and all it cost me was gas money and food/supplies.This place is awesome and there arent many like it left anymore so please always remember, be safe and responsible, be kind to your fellow enthusiasts, and always leave the island cleaner than you found it.

Good outing and adventure. Navigating the intercostal was tricky due to the volume of traffic. I believe it was directly related to the amount of chop down the coastline from the approaching storm. It seemed to drive even the larger 40 foot boats to navigate down the intercoastal rather than cruising the coast line. Had to use extreme caution due to being on only an 18 ft skiff.

I always enjoy a sunny day out on my boat anchoring off the shore of Masonboro. Its especially nice if your boat has a shallow draft and your local knowledge of the area is on par because then you can access much more secluded and private sections of the island. The only time of year that is bad on Masonboro is 4th of July, tons of unruly college kids and lots of LE. Dont forget the sunscreen and remember to LEAVE NO TRACE!

I paddled over with friends. Crossing the ICW wasnt bad except for ride boaters who seemed to think it was funny to try and swamp us. The nature preserve is awesome. We found all kinds of things washed up like it was all along the coast 30+ years ago.

Thank goodness its summer! We go every chance we can! There are so many different islands to choose from! If you want to be alone, ride until you find a spot. But if you want to be with/around people turn at the North end. Holidays are great out there as well! July 4th / memorial day weekend/ labor day weekend exc are awesome! Live music / food vendors ON BOATS. Its a really good time, great family fun, & fun for all ages! A MUST SEE IF YOU HAVE A BOAT OR GET A CHANCE TO RIDE !

The island is a wildlife sanctuary, just south of Wrightsville beach. As a wildlife sanctuary island, you need a boat to get there. If you have your own boat (even a kayak), it is easy to get there from Wrightsville Beach. There are also charter boats and taxis that run out there. Modest price per person. You will probably land on the intracoastal side of the island. It is a short hike over to the ocean side, where there is a beautiful beach. Amazing that there is such place so close to civilization!

There are no homes or vehicles on this island reserve, only nature. You get there by boat, sometimes rough choppy waters and on the ocean side, swift under currents and high waves. Its a great getaway day, evening, or overnight. Get dropped off and arrange pick up time. Bring plenty of water and sunscreen. This area was highlighted in Southern Living Magazine including Wrightsville beach and Scenic Tours by Capt Joe. If you want a day for you or your family, this is the place to explore, over 8 miles of beach. You can pick any spot on the sand, and all youll see and hear are the waves.
