A must see experience if you are driving through Delaware! Old Swedes Church is the oldest standing church without changes to its original foundation/structure. Our tour guide, Kyle was excellent. $5 well spent! We enjoyed walking around the church as well as the cemetery. The history is exceptional for this area. Highly recommend stopping.

This old church is a Wilmington landmark. The interior is gorgeously plain, in the Lutheran style, with exquisite stained glass windows, hard wooden pews, and memorials to the congregations various movers and shakers from time long past. Each year, the Swedish tradition of Lucia is performed in a moving, candlelit ceremony. The graveyard that surrounds the church contains tombstones, old and new, that remind us of the impermanence and beauty of the human condition.

Great place to visit and learn about the Swedish settlement in the New World and the church that was built to serve them. The construction is interesting starting with rock walls to later additions of brick. The grave yard that surrounds the church has its own story to tell. We spent over two hours learning about the Swedish community in what is now Wilmington, Delaware. Excellent staff that enjoy their slice of history.

A place to visit with a very typical Swedish interior. The Hendrickson House is a must to visit to get to know Swedish history and how a household could work.

Supposed to be open Saturday until 4pm with last tour at 3:30. Completely locked up before both those times with no one answering phone. Want to visit historic site but false hours of operation.

Very friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating staff. I have three children (ages 8-13) and all three were engaged in learning about the Old Swedes Church and Hendrickson House.

The only way to go inside the church is by a guided tour and you have to call them in advance to book. If you are just passing through like us, all you can do is wander inside the compound and take pictures of the church exterior and tombs. They do provide a handful of information boards as reference. The young lady at the Visitor Center wanted nothing to do with us and was very unhelpful. No public restrooms here (or any visitor facilities for that matter).
