I really liked this place but I was fairly clueless as to their procedure. I purchased my ticket ahead of time online and I didnt really get any info in the email. It closes at 5, I arrived at 1:30. I was taking my sweet time, it said check in with an arrow to the right pointing to kiosk and entrance with an arrow to the left. There was no one at the kiosk so I went to the entrance, there was a man checking tickets but theres no service and I couldnt pull up my email and he said I guess Ill have to trust you. I was annoyed because I really purchased a ticket. So I asked if theres any Wifi on the premise and then he tells me no but youre supposed to check in at the store not the kiosk. So I walk to the store and ask them if they have WiFi and they say no, but I can tell you a part where you can stand to connect to WiFi? So they thought I couldnt connect to the WiFi so finally realized there is WiFi and I was able to connect and get my ticket but THEN I was told that the last shuttle bus to the house was about to leave (2 PM) I didnt know I had to take a bus to the main house, nor did I know the last bus was at 2, I would have arrived earlier. I get off the bus and a sweet guide starts to explain all the history of the estate and shows me the garden. I asked what the bus schedule is for going back (I didnt want any other surprises) she told me that they leave every 30, and the trip takes 10 min so the next bus would arrive to pick us up at 2:40 but I could explore more and walk around and the following bus would be 3:10 etc. So at 2:30 I finally reach the main house and begin taking photos, then Im told the 2:40 bus is the last bus back to the parking lot so all of this hassle and I only got to spend 10 minutes on the property! They just need to explain the process and schedule better! I would have skipped the history lesson (I didnt want to be rude) if I had to go back in 30 min!
You can still get a great tour of the garden and the garage. House is closed temporarily due to covid. Still well worth a visit especially when weather is decent.
They had some great demonstrations and educational content while exploring retired gunpowder mill. One more thing i again never knew existed. Definitely worth a visit, especially once the house reopens after Covid19
Guides were very informative and demos were good. Waiting to go back once they open the buildings for tours again.
Such a beautiful place. So much history. The tour guides know thier history. Loved loved
Went on a Saturday that they were doing family events at the visitor center. We entered the house with three small children and were pleased to find out that they were not doing the normal one hour guided tour but rather they had tour guides in each room to tell us stories of the room. A handful of the guides were super sweet and told stories of the room just for the littles. It was so nice. They set up the home decorated for Christmas as well (since it was December when we visited) and it was so beautiful. There is a barn with a small Cooper shop, a room with a couple antique cars and another room with an old wagon and various carriages.
This is part of the Hagley Museum property. This is one of the first DuPont homes, on the site of the original powderworks. Lots of great history, beautiful grounds and a knowledgeable, friendly staff. Great day trip for the family.
Fantastically maintained historical site. Beautiful home and furnishings. Learn about the beginnings of industry and innovation in the US.
Great museum. Definitely do both the gun powder demonstration, and the machine shop. Tour of the house is great. It is not very handicap accessable, being an old house and the ground require some walking on brick/gravel/cobblestone.
Amazing to see a house like this so full of history. I really enjoyed seeing how the people lived back in the olden times of our Nations beginnings.
Beautiful home and expansive gardens. Great place to walk around and get a feel of how the DuPont family lived.
Excellent tour of an historic property. Recommended before going to Winterthur, as a means to have contextual information about the DuPont family.
Great tour. Amazing that so many original items have been preserved. Informative guides.
We loved it here! Educational displays
Beautiful and serene area. Also steeped in history.
You learn so much of the 18th century
Fascinating tour if you like history. It is the place where the DuPonts started their fortune. It has their first home before the crazy big palace type mansions. It also has the powder mill that made black powder for guns and blasting and other munitions. There is enough to see, you can easily spend the day there. It has demonstrations in the machine shop of the various tools they used to make equipment.
Love the history of the Hagley. All of the tour guides are very well prepared and interesting. The home looked beautiful for the holidays.
Great experience learning about the life of a great business empire.
