The DuPont family is Delaware’s wealthiest and most prominent. For much of the 20th century, they owned numerous mansions spread across the state.Nemours Mansion is located in Wilmington and was among the most opulent of their residences. It’s now open to public tours. The home resembles an alpine chateau and is full of posh art, furniture, and housewares that were the epitome of extravagance by the standards of the era.Guided tours are offered regularly. For those interested in getting a truly behind-the-scenes look into the lives of the ultra-wealthy in years past, they’re definitely the way to go.

Admission is $10 you can pay over the phone once you arrive, they put your name on a list for admission. I arrived around 3, it was very empty since they close at 5. I loved having the place to myself (only 5 other ppl were on the grounds at that time) and its really spaced out! I will definitely go back and spend more time there!

This is a real hidden gem. The gardens were impressive and reminiscent of many royal palace gardens. I loved the coveres walkway with vines. I cant wait to see that in the spring full of fruit and flowers. The grounds were immaculate and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The house was closed to tourists due to Covid19, but i will definitely return to see it someday when it reopens.

Well worth the trip to see this!! There is so much to see but they make it easy by providing shuttles to and fro throughout the estate. Even my husband who doesnt usually love historical sites and things of this nature was able to find beauty and fascination throughout the grounds and mansion. We will definitely be back when it is cooler!!

I have lived in the area for more than ten years but only recently visited Nemours Mansion for the first time. If you have ever visited a Newport mansion, this is comparable. There is plenty to see and read for several hours on this property. I especially appreciated the extremely friendly and helpful docents that are stationed across the mansion. This is truly a beautiful place and worth a visit if you are in Delaware or southeastern PA.

This is an enjoyable place to spend several hours. It wasnt very crowded so I had space and time to contemplate what it would been like to live in this 100 year-old home. I love how the rooms are preserved with the furniture and belongings of the family. The library is filled with actual books. Throughout the home there are guides who are eager to tell you about the room and the family. I have never heard of the duPont family before my visit, or if I had, it didnt stick in my memory. As a mechanical engineering student I was intrigued by the mechanical innovations that were incorporated throughout the home. The grounds outside of the house were nice, and the garage contained some old cars that enthusiast may find delightful. Oh, and dont forget to visit the basement.

I might have overdone it with the pictures, but this was one of the most beautiful places I have walked through! The first time I heard about the Duponts were during the tour at the Nemours Estate. Make this a day trip and plan to spend hours here! Make it a point to walk through every area on the map; this is such a gorgeous walk and it was an amazing date with my hubby. I will never forget how magical it was!

A well kept gilded age mansion built in 18 months started in 1909. Three floors, featuring very knowledgeable docents in all of the rooms, ready to answer all the questions you might have. This was a very enjoyable and informative attraction. It was well worth spending at least 4 hours learning about Alfred E Duponts life and wandering through the beautiful estate. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and proactive. Signing up for the guided tour inside the mansion really added depth and enjoyment to our visit. The visitor center is very organized and buses that take you to the estate are comfortable and operate frequently. Come early to avoid crowds on a sunny weekend! Also would recommend make time for the Hagley Museum, another even larger attraction thats just a 4 minute-drive down the road from this estate.

Terrific mansion and gardens. Learned so much from the helpful docents who offered Dupont family insights. Maybe its available and I missed it, but Nemours should offer a detailed catalogue of the English, American and European fine furniture and decorative arts at the mansion that span from roughly the 15th to 20th centuries. Fantastic pieces.

Terry is an absolutely legend. Three stars to Terry who works here and so passionately ushers tourists all around the estate. This is inspired by Versailles in France but unfortunately doesn’t live up to anything as close as the grandeur of what you’d find in France. It’s $18 entry and I wouldn’t say it’s worth every dollar - maybe more like $5 for the experience you get here. 77 rooms might feel like a lot to see but not when they close off an entire floor of the house to visitors.

Gorgeous property! The grounds, gardens and house are breath taking. They also did a fantastic job on the history and informative displays that you walk through in the visitors center. It gives a nice overview of the life of the DuPonts and the history of the estate. The house is so technologically ahead of its time. They had grand rooms, furnishings, electricity and indoor plumbing. There is even a billiards room, bowling alley and office in the basement. There is an elevator in the house so if you are in a wheelchair you can access the different floors. The gardens, landscaping, iron gates, reflecting pools and statues are magnificent. You can stroll at your leisure, fly a kite, have a picnic, read a book by the reflecting pools or waltz through the gardens. You can take a guided tour through the home or wander about at tour leisure. There are always people around to help guide you or answer questions if you dont want to take a formal tour.
