We had great time visiting the park and the kids really enjoyed it. Its not just whole bunch of rocks but full of adventure and funs. The free shuttle service is great but just make sure it will take you back where you leave your car and you are picked up. We had a little trouble with it but the park rangers were very nice and kindly took me back to the shuttle stop where I left my car.

Very helpful Rangers and worth stopping by on your way into the park for maps and information. There is a paved nature walk path you can walk on, but I docked one star because the nature trail had some strange signage that is part of an art exhibit that was pretty weird for kids.

Rangers at this visitor center were much friendlier and willing to answer questions than at the West entrance one. The displays are visually pleasing and you learn the basics about the wildlife to expect. There is a small gift shop that is very popular. In the back there is an interpretive trail but it is still recovering from the fire so we didnt see as much as with previous visits, for example no quail this time although we heard some, but they used to be all over the place. The signs along the trail are meant to be engaging by telling the story of a young woman.

The secret entance to Joshua Tree National Park. Just 17 minutes away from the main entrance this point of entry has far fewer cars and puts you closer to split rock and skull rock and puts you counter to the normal traffic flow so less traffic in front. While a little smaller and slightly different exhibits it also is the trail head to an oasis walk that is paved.

One of the best desert Visitor Centers. A great intro to the Park, lots of informed park personnel on site, and a wide selection of souvenirs to choose from. If you are with a pet as we are, you can walk your dog along the guided pathway behind the center. Its a nice walk through the desert, and tells a cool little story/legend along the way. Fun for your kids too!

Great place to visit before and during a visit to Joshua Tree NP. Free wifi, flushing restrooms and a place to fill up water jugs (there is no water in the park itself). The visitor center is also the place to hop aboard the free road runner shuttle, which enables visitors to ride into and access the park without paying the admission fee. The Oasis of Mara trail also leads from the visitor center, a good intro hike for the rest of the park

Review №51

Looks to be smaller and less busy than the visitor center in Joshua Tree town, but the staff are just as nice. Staff helped us identify a gopher snake that was just happened to wake from hibernating and passing through. Even the volunteers at this center were so knowledgeable and kind; they helped us understand where best to go in the park.

Review №52

Though the main visitor center in the park has more in the way of exhibits, this once has some good info as well. Its less crowded here, and the entrance gate up the road is less busy as well. Standard visitor center offerings, books and shirts and magnets and such. No food offered here, nor did I see even a water bottle, so dont expect to provision here. Bathrooms are clean though and the rangers have been knowledgeable and helpful any time Ive stopped in.

This center is the best one in JTNP. It has a nice, brief concrete walk through plants and lizards. And the center has many displays about JTNP flora and fauna. The best part is that the center gives an overview of JTNPs geology - that is, how things got formed.

The man that was working behind the register on Wednesday, April 3rd, should be ashamed. He was really rude to a man asking questions about wildflowers and then proceeded to share with the next two customers the stupid questions he gets asked about the weather and where the Oasis is. I expect much better from those employed with the Forest Service, though this guy was not dressed in ranger clothing. It was a very negative experience.

A gas station in the middle of nowhere. While the facility is clean that is pretty much the only positive. Higher prices are understandable for the location, but the level of service was poor. Even with four people at the counter we were not greeted. The employees were too busy talking to each other to be helpful or polite. The store is filled with snarky signs telling the customers not to complain. You can also not pay at the pump, so you have to leave your card at the counter or pay in cash. You have to spend a minimum amount to use a card. Try to have enough gas to make it to the next town and just skip the Oasis.

Review №79

Friendly park staff helped me plan out two days in Joshua Tree and pointed me toward good areas for stargazing. The Oasis of Mara thats at the same location is a short walk, but doesnt give you enough of the Joshua Tree experience or the variety of scenery to consider only stopping here. Give the Oasis a quick warmup walk then head into the park.

Da
Review №80

Ive lived just a block north of this for about 20 years of my life, and have always loved it as a convenient, simple retreat when I need to get away. Has a nice, short nature walk with informational plaques spread throughout. The actual Oasis only holds water during rainy seasons (sometimes there are small frogs!). Despite damage from an arson incident a couple years ago, the spot is still popular and a great sneak peek at the parks desert landscape. Theres a visitor center, and also an office for other recreational opportunities. Summers in the desert easily surpass 110 degrees Fahrenheit, so be sure to dress accordingly, wear skin protectants if needed, and bring plenty of water. There are separate male and female restrooms located in the front entrance near the parking lot, as well as a water refill station.

Great visit, spoke with friendly and knowledgeable staff, toured the information and learning area, walked the oasis, and made some purchases at the retail store. The arson damage is sad to see, but it doesnt change the fact that one gets to walk inside a real-life oasis. Its a special feeling, and the life coming back to the area is wonderful.
