Although the property is private, they allow you to visit the grounds. Its beautiful, especially in the Spring. Walk along some of the trails, bring a picnic, read, come study, or do some remote work. Very peaceful. Remember to do your part, and keep the grounds clean, just like you found them. Enjoy!

Such a quite enchanted place under the trees. Its right by a busy road but its unnoticeable when in Lichgate. A beautiful garden and a few places to sit at. I would recommend bring a blanket to lay on by yourself or with others to enjoy the peace in the air. A good place to study too!

As others have said, the drive is nearly invisible. You will need to look for a small white post. And youll likely have to turn around. It is very serene. We just visited for a few moments, but a picnic lunch or enjoying a book would be nice in this area. There are no trash receptacles, and it is a one minute walk from the parking area to the picnic area.

A beautiful pit stop on our ride to Mobile from Gainesville. The grounds are majestic and if you go in the early afternoon you will truly feel as though you are smack-dab in the middle of a fairytale. The entrance is free and there is a small parking lot to accommodate visitors. Just be careful not to miss the entrance!

By far, and without a doubt my favorite place in the world. Sounds like a hyperbole, however this point holds a lot of memories and deeper meanings to me, including the ashes on a dearly missed friend. I am fortunate enough to be able to donate some of my unfortunately abundant free time and. Albeit sparce lately I still feel blessed to be able to give back to such a beautiful place and to attempt at least, to keep it as radiant as it deserves to be. I hope to see anyone interested in visiting Tallahassee hidden gem and if you are only a reader at this point and not a venturer to the gate; PLEASE GO, YOURE MISSING OUT RN

What a neat, hidden place. The entrance from High Road is marked by 2 white 4x4 posts with a sign. Google maps has it right, but I drove past it on the first try. There is parking. And a short path to an ancien oak tree and a cottage and a flower garden and a labyrinth. It is maintained by volunteers, and they clearly take their contribution seriously. Walking around it can take 15 minutes, or you could spend an hour if you just wanted to hang out. It is lovely.

Came here July 2020, easy to find if you follow Google maps. You will have to look for a small driveway with a little white lichgate sign. The property is free if anybody is trying to figure out the price.was not extremely impressed with the property, its very difficult to understand the history behind it when there is no information posted to read. The grounds are very unkept, needs to be groomed so that you know which way to walk on the walk paths and during this time of the year it is extremely mosquito ridden so make sure you bring bug spray. It only takes a few minutes to see the whole property and unless you read up online about this youre going to be extremely confused on why theres even a house here and what the garden labrynth means.

A wonderful place, extremely peaceful. You can easily while away your time he, reading a book, listening to the sounds of nature or even just sitting and doing nothing. The trees lead to a very soothing environ, theres an extremely large tree in the centre which leads to an uncultivated and wild-ish persona to the surroundings which is truly gorgeous.

I’m a tree guy, an arborist by profession. I was introduced to the Litchgate Oak when a company I worked for volunteered a few climbers to go prune some hazardous dead limbs from it. I now go by and take a look at it every few months or so and I’m still as awed as I was the very first time I saw it. There are bigger live oaks for sure but the size and setting along with the wide graceful growth habit of this one is truly remarkable. The gardens around it are typically well maintained by volunteers who are very friendly and do what they do out of love for the tree and the property it sits on. It’s tucked away and can be difficult to find and if you drive past it every day you’d still be unaware what’s back there just off of high road but if you hear about it you should definitely take the time to give it a look.

The Lichgate cottage was the home of the late Laura Jepsen, a professor of comparative literature at FL State University from 1946 to 1978 ... Lichgate means a roofed gate at the entrance to a churchyard where a coffin can be set down to await the arrival of the clergyman ... She named the property after that ... After she passed in 1995, a group of her frds n former students created a nonprofit n purchased the property to save it. Coz she has never married. At the entrance they hv mentioned this as a “Private Property” but it’s open to public ...

Beautiful spot to waste a little time enjoying a little bit of nature hiding like a golden nugget right smack dab in the middle of Tallahassee. The Lichgate Oak is spectacular and the surrounding gardens decent. The cottage is wonderful as well.We got both lucky and unlucky today as they were having a private function which put us off for an hour, but the lucky part of that was, due to the function, Phoenix was there and the cottage was open so we could take a little brief peek inside. Nice people that volunteer to take care of the place. Awesome.Found a #Tallahassee Rocks artist painted rock hiding there today and that was another positive part of the experience. Took the beautiful little rock with us on the remainder of our journey today and photographed it as if it was a family member along with us. It had quite the adventure today and will each time we go on a new adventure as well. Thanks to the artist LB. #Tallahassee Rocks #Stay Wild
