Nice slice of nature in the middle of the city. Pet friendly. No playground but one is not needed. Kids enjoyed it.

A nice place to go for a hike or a picnic. There are tables, some under the trees and some under a shelter. There are a couple of maintenance issues: part of a loop trail was washed away so the trail is no longer a loop, and the stairs leading to the top of the taller mound are extremely slick with mildew. Otherwise, its a good spot for an easy hike or to just sit and relax outside.

Every first Sunday of the month, in the afternoon, there is a lovely group of people who get together and have a drum circle. They let me and my friend join in on the jam session. So much fun would be a nice place for meditation or picnic

Gorgeous. LOTS of butterflies at the top of the mounds. Spotted a spider in the center of its Web, 30 off the ground and a 10 span between the tree limbs.

A fairly well maintained state park and archeological site. Around the mounds are hiking trails and picnic benches. There is a restroom and limited grills for cooking out.

Today we hiked the entire Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park with around 3.5 miles of trails. Informative displays and several picnic tables are offered including bathrooms. Photographed is the tallest mound which stands 36 feet high with a base that measures 278 feet by 312 feet. It was built by Native Americans belonging to the Fort Walton Culture.

The park is definitely still recovering from the hurricane, and a lot of the park benches/tables need to be replaced. Still, a very nice spot with some pretty forestry and a quiet place to have a picnic

A very interesting hidden spot in Tallahassee. There isnt much here to keep your attention though. It would be nice to have more information on the Native Americans who lived here. Maybe better displays, a mock hut to show what their daily lives were like, etc. So much history here that isnt really represented

Greta place with lots of history to explore. The trails are easy for and the old mill ruins are quite interesting. A bit soggy when it has been raining so wear good shoes, especially if you are going back to the mound at the far end of the park.

It was nice for what it is, if that makes sense! There are several informational panels about the history of the area and the native people that lived there, which I enjoyed reading! Two of the five mounds are visible and climbable, but it is not entirely clear where they fall on the maps that are given. A few of the signs with historical information are worn to the point of illegibility, which was disappointing.

This is a pleasant state park just a short distance north of Tallahassee. It features easy access to 2 large ceremonial mounds, each with a well-maintained stairway to climb to the top to get a view of the landscape. The park also has picnic tables, a large pavilion, a restroom building, and some interpretive signs. Unfortunately, the signs are quite worn and difficult to read. The park is in a swampy area, and although there were no issues with bugs in late December when we visited, I suspect during warmer weather, mosquitoes could impact the enjoyment of the park.

I go here to pray and meditate. Clearing my mind. It is not a park where you will see lots of kids and is never crowded. Water surrounds the park, so it makes it serene. U can have private dates and hanging out with your friends at this park without being bothered by anyone.

I went there quite often 10-20 years ago and it was great. I was so dissapointed when I went today. The mounds are covered with weeds. The steps only go up one side and you cant see anything but the weeds. There is no trail to the aquaducts. They arent even mentioned. The signs were faded and unreadable. The trail is okay but it doesnt go in a circle anymore. I wanted to cry.

Wonderful place for a small, very doable nature walk. Great for picnics, dog walks and outside games! **MAKE SURE you PAY the small fee to get into the park. Theres a chance that a park ranger will pull you over if you dont. As stated before...its just a few bucks so, go ahead & do it.** The park is rather isolated...so for the sake of safety, one should always be aware of your surroundings. Especially on the trail. Ive never heard of anything happening but I see people with headphones on all the time... Totally unaware of whats going on.

This is a great state park. It is in a residential area and acts as something of a neighborhood park. It is popular for dog walking, jogging and nature excursions. It has a few hiking trails, a berm associated with a historic mill and most importantly several American Indian Mounds. The largest of these mounds has an observation platform which has a commanding view of the surrounding area. The top of the largest mound is about forty feet high from the base. Additionally this park has a bathroom, some picnic tables and potable water.

If you walk the trails that makes its way through the forrest part of the park, which btw is wonderful to take dogs on because of the solitude it provides. You will also be greated by the forrest unique terrain for this area of FL, which includes steephills and provides a micro climate or a sub climate that is 10-15° cooler than the temperature outside of the woods. Truelu a unique place to explore . Just remember to bring bug spray
