Unique tourist attraction in the US. This Lenin statue is often irreverently decorated and always has his hands painted red, symbolizing blood. Near the statue theres a plaque, as well as information about the history of the statue, with photos of some of the more interesting ways hes been dressed up in the past, including an Uncle Sam hat. Its located in a charming, walkable neighborhood with plentiful restaurants, cafes, bars, and shops nearby. Also close to waterfront parks, such as Gas Works, and the Burke Gilman Trail.

A friend of mine who lives in Seattle brought me here. In her words we can just drive by Lenin and take a look then go to the park. I was imagining a small bust of Lenin but a Statue and this big. I had to get out and take pictures. The history behind how the statue got here is very interesting and odd. Fremont itself is a very interesting place and Lenin just adds to the character of this neighborhood.

In the heart of Fremont sits this wonderful Lenin statue from the old Soviet Union days. The statue is about 15 ft tall and only in Fremont could a statue of Lenin & JP Patches peacefully coexist.

Amusing to see how people “decorate” or “vandalize” the statue each time you go here (you can make your own opinion on whether it’s decoration or vandalism).Looking at the statues history, it looks as if it may be owned by a private collector who has been trying to sell it but has not found buyers. In that time, people have been messing with it and it’s become a tourist attraction.Seems appropriate for this Fremont community that has a rocket ship and a bridge troll nearby.

I would first like to point out that this statue is on privately owned land and is privately owned. It shows the inalienable rights of private property and individual liberty that Lenin and communism had no respect for, so its interesting to see a statue and its supporters be critical of the free market/capitalism and the private property rights respected in the USA, while not understanding that Lenin runs counter to those principles that make this statue possible. The shops, cafes and stores in the area of this statue also run counter to what the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics had, which was starvation, lack of production to meet demand and poor quality of most products/services due to a tyrannical ideology where central control of everyone and everything was needed to ensure individuals placed the collective state above any/all individual liberty.I have some soviet artwork, but I never forget that communist/marxism has killed over 90 million people (worldwide). Lenin and the bolsheviks are guilty of genocide where in the red terror alone, over 200,000 were killed. If you have no issue with this statue, you should also have no issue with one of hitler for example. Lenin/Bolsheviks added to the death count with 700,000 executed during the great terror (1937-1938), 400,000 more executed (1929-1953), a MINIMUM of 2.7 million dead in gulags. This statue should stand as in a weird way, it affirms individual liberty and property rights by showing that said freedom/liberty applies to everyone, but it lacks showing the true evil and genocide Lenin took part in.

Take away all symbolism and the statue itself is a wonderful example of Soviet era art. But since that doesnt seem to be the world we live in, I would love to see this statue turned into a fountain of sorts with a thick red liquid slowly dripping from his cuffs and a plaque that reads The road to hell is paved with good intentions

This is great landmark to get your picture taken in downtown Fremont. Its a little hard to climb on the statue but its possible, for those who are not athletic might need some help of friends. There is a 7-ton statue of Vladimir Lenin in Seattle. Its 16-feet tall, made of bronze and has resided in the citys eclectic and very free-spirited Fremont neighborhood since 1995.It was created in Slovakia by artist Emil Venkov between 1978 and 1988, when it was installed in the city of Poprad, not far from the Polish border. A year later, as the Soviet Union broke apart, the statue was taken down. #localguides

Despite the fact that Lenin did not follow the truth path of egoism and fell to Marx’s path, the statue brought a tear to my eye in my younger years. It symbolizes how we as a people were so close to doing something right and then the greed of a collective people ruined it. Max Stirner, however, cares not about this statue, Marxist.

Fremont used to be center of the universe for the Seattle art community. There were a lot of funky buildings which would legally and illegally house starving Artists on a budget. Higher rents and the elimination of such housing has pushed the art community into the outskirts but pieces of art like this are continuous reminders of the foothold the art community had in Fremont at one time. Our previous mayor wanted to get rid of this statue when he had his own set of problems to deal with. The Statue does not glorify Lenin or his politics. It glorifies the art of making such a statue and creates a conversation.... you cant erase history. O

The Statue of Lenin in Seattle is a 16 ft (5 m) bronze sculpture of Communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin, by Bulgarian sculptor Emil Venkov. It was completed and put on display in Communist Czechoslovakia in 1988, the year before the Velvet Revolution of 1989. In 1993 the statue was bought by an American who had found it lying in a scrapyard. He brought it home to the U.S. state of Washington, but died before he could carry out his plans for displaying the Soviet era memento.

When you think about it, its really poor taste to have this statue not in a museum here. Just bloodying the statues hand isnt enough to acknowledge the painful parts of soviet history. There are a lot of people in Seattle who dont miss growing up in an SSR.Other statues glorifying the CSA+Jim Crow may be more immediate for americans, but this lenin statue should be in a museum for the same reasons. If the statue is still standing as protest to hyper-conservative plutocratic government / culture, Lenin is not the best guy for the job.

The foot of one of the statues was so big that you could put 10 people on it, so this one in Fremont is a miserable piece of art that doesnt even represent Lenins face properly. Im not a fan of that guy, but in comparison to the other Lenins statues ive this is worthless.
