First time ever riding on the clipper V! It was awesome, very similar feeling to being on an airplane. It wasn’t really packed likely because we were in off-season and we went from Seattle to Victoria. The first trip there we rode economy which was still very nicely appointed they were seats that face forward and some that allowed you to have tables in between similar to what you would find in the train car. They had a little bar where you could get coffee, sodas, snacks and baked goods. Since most of the trip is in the Puget Sound it is fairly calm protected waters. We did manage to see some sea otters on the way there. On the way back we upgraded to luxury comfort class were all the seats were Kush leather face forward and included private restrooms and snacks. This was a hit after a long walking trip! All in all it was a 2 1/2 hour trip each way. There’s also a nice deck on the back where you could literally go out and get some fresh air.

Great day from Seattle to Friday Harbor. Staff was friendly and helpful. We spent a lot of top on the top deck taking in the amazing views. We saw 2 humpbacks, a minke, many porpoises, seals, sea lions, bald eagles and lots of other birds. The naturalist on board was very informative. We did the extended 2 hour nature tour then had a couple of hours in Friday Harbor. Great time all around.

Weve had three whale watching tours with this company. Their boats are nice, the employees polite. Even though we didnt see whales, the trip was nice and they gave us a ticket to try again. It is my last summer in Seattle before moving out of state, and so I went to use my ticket to San Juan. Upon calling to schedule, I was told that route was no longer in this year and may be back next year. So when asking if I could use the ticket for another route, the answer was no. So now I get no trip.

We took the clipper to Victoria BC twice in the last two weeks. The first trip was on a Saturday (I dont recommend a weekend). The check in process is a bit of organized chaos. Its like going through the airport for an international flight but with passengers not having the proper documentation. The crew of the ship were really helpful. We sat in the economy section of the boat. The seats were about as uncomfortable as you can get. We also sat on the lower level(again I dont recommend). Food choices are terrible. Bring something with you. The ride is a little over 3 hours. Our second trip was on a Wednesday, much easier! We also decided to sit in comfort class, a lot more comfortable! The view from that section was beautiful. We didnt see any whales on either trip which was a disappointment, but we had an incredible view of Mt. Rainier on the way home. All things aside, both trips went well and we got there safely.

I enjoyed the trip to Friday Harbour very much, it has great views. I am someone that gets seasick, airsick, carsick, pretty much sick on any kind of transportation and I have to say that for me the Clipper was better than flying. I took some tablets, just to be on the safe side, and I just felt sick for a few moments, which for me it is actually amazing. The route is beautiful you can spot some wildlife on your way and the service was also very friendly. My only complain is that the boat is a little old, the chairs are not very comfortable, and there is not a lot of space. I would also like to have the possibility of reserving a seat in advance, but that is not a dealbreaker for me.

Super fast, smooth, and fun. The staff are professional, friendly. The ride was extremely smooth. Most of the time I wouldnt have known I was on a boat. I do wish the comfort class snacks were expanded. There were sodas, a coffee/espresso machine, oranges, nuts, and chips. I would have liked to see a sandwich or something like that for the additional $50/person it costs. The ship is gorgeous, and the scenery even moreso. Highly recommended.

We took the clipper ferry to San Juan Island and then back to Seattle four days later. The trip was quick and beautiful. We didn’t see much in the way of wildlife on the way up (the inside passage) but on the way back (the outside passage) we saw bald eagles, harbor seals, porpoise, stellar sea lions and 6 orcas! The captain slowed or stopped for us to see and photograph all of the wildlife and we got back to Seattle just after 8. We saw this on the ferry portion- we did not pay or go on the Whale watch! Best way to get to the San Juan’s.

Nice packages of quick getaways to Victoria BC Canada. It includes point-to-point transportation and lodging at vacation destination - Victoria BC (within city vincity). Lodging arrangement is a quality hotel, 4 or 5 stars, close to pier in Victoria (walkable distance to and from clipper). This is quite convenient on sunny and warm days. It is also walking distance to several local attractions and food. We enjoyed the 3-day vacation in Victoria during US Thanksgiving holidays. Since it was regular working day in Canada, it was not so crowded at those local attractions. No need to wait in a long line for admissions or food. Local tours are also available to some far away attractions such as Butchart Gardens, though the best season to visit the gardens is in summer.

The Victoria Clipper service is a much more pleasant way to get to Victoria from Seattle than flying or driving. It definitely beats arriving an hour and a half in advance to stand in the TSA line for a flight, or squeezing your bags into an overhead bin, or sitting in tiny seats with nowhere to stretch out.The boarding process & security check is much quicker and easier than flying. Going through customs was a breeze. The ride itself is very smooth - even in choppy water, its smoother than an airliner in turbulence. The seating area is comparable to an Amtrak train or a higher-end bus service; its not luxurious, but its comfortable enough, and very efficient. You can stand out on the decks / viewing areas during all parts of the voyage except departure and docking, to take in the sights of Seattle, Victoria and everything in-between. There are great photo opportunities if youre into that. The snacks and duty-free shops are reasonably priced. Service on-board is a bit slow (only 3-5 crew members for ~200 people) but gets the job done. All in all, I can say without hesitation that this is the best way to go to Victoria from Seattle or vice-versa. Ive done it both ways and prefer the Clipper by a long run.

We chose Clipper Vacations to see wildlife and experience San Juan Island. Clipper delivered this and kept their timing. If you want to do this for a day trip, would advise going with a smaller company, as you will be doing this with a lot of people and will be cramped. I purchases three tickets for the Seattle to Friday Harbor ferry with whale watching. We did end up seeing a humpback whale (from a very long way away) and sea lions, which was great, and the naturalist on board was fantasti, but my review has more to do with the accommodations. First of all, youre on a boat for 8 hours (3 hours there & back, and 2 hour whale watching) and unless you bring food, youre eating on the boat. I had their all beef hot dog, which was gray when it came out and tasted like soggy cardboard. If you wanted hot foods, it was a choice between that, chili dogs or clam chowder. Thats it. Second, the service by the crew leaves a lot to be desired. They provided little direction about where to wait to board or what to do when they docked, but they sure like to yell at the passengers who didnt follow their uncommunicated rules. Third, they have broken tray tables and expect people to sit 6 to a booth meant for 4 people. If you squeeze in 2 more people, theres less room than if you were on an airplane and we ended up constantly kicking the person across from us. Fourth, the bathrooms were a disaster. If you turned the wrong way you ended up hitting the sink, and the toilet handles only flushed if you applied an immense amount of pressure so there was constant dirty toilet bowls. Unless you have an incredible desire to see whales from afar, save your money. These boats need an upgrade and better crew.

Flying seems like a much more comfortable and enjoyable experience. Would not recommend

Review №59

We were over 30 minutes late both arriving in Friday Harbor on Saturday and arriving in Seattle on Sunday evening. The late arrivals are amplified by the fact that everyone is forced to wait on board while checked bags are unloaded, even though many of us didnt check any bags at all. There doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to how boarding groups are assigned (my wife and I, both on the same ticket, were in separate groups despite checking in at the same time). The inability to reserve a seat on board contributes to uncertainty and stress, especially when stuck in one of the last boarding groups. I suppose this service is nice for people who dont care about time and just want to look at wildlife on the way to the San Juans, but for people who treat this boat more like a private ferry between Seattle and Friday Harbor (as we do), the service you provide is actually pretty unreliable and frustrating. We may have actually gotten there and back a lot faster (and cheaper) by driving to Anacortes and taking the state ferry.

Nice option to go to Victoria!Id recommend it. People are professional pleasant and the ride was smooth.Questions I thought about that are now answered:1) what time to show up? depending on boarding group, show up early and you get to choose your spot if that matters for you!2) carryon size limit is basically similar to airline carryon luggage. When you walk into the ship, you leave it on the luggage rack on the first floor3) upper deck or lower deck? I chose upper for the view. Its also less crowded during initial boarding.4) left or right side of ship? In the morning on the way to Victoria, I sat on the left. I liked it because less sun in your face, and less splashing on the window (for some reason the right side had tons of splashing)5) is there WiFi? NoSeasickness: free CHEWABLE seasickness med (meclizine hcl) on board by the galley. We were warned seas may be choppy for our last hour. Glad I took the med (Im usually prone to sea sickness)! Some didnt and I saw them throwing up. Better safe than sorry!
