We enjoy visiting museums wherever we go but this was not it. The layout of the exhibit and the descriptions of the art pieces were confusing. We toured the whole place in 30 minutes. As some reviews have said, you are left wondering if that was it. The exhibits are too far apart from one another and dont quite translate well from one room to the next. The whole experience was disrupted by confusing video footage - not art for us. I mean, to each their own. The fiance got in for free since he is a student but I think we paid $10 for my entrance fee. Definitely not worth it.

The building itself is quite remarkable with ornate arches and inscriptions carved into the sandstone. The collection itself is very... contemporary. There are limited exhibits considering the size of the venue and I didn’t really connect with the pieces - maybe too abstract for me; nonetheless, great place to check out what’s happening in the modern art scene

Its really worth a visit, free on Sundays. The entrance and building is where maps says it is, but looks like a car park and church from the road. Just go in the car park and take the elevator. Interior environments are really quite interesting, from your standard nicely finished minimal art museum style rooms to medieval looking corridors. The transition between the top floor and bottom is weird, it seems like a school corridor/stairwell and would benefit from some signage. The brochures are always nicely designed.

Would occasionally come here while at UW to relax and view art - most exhibits were modern art that I felt lacked meaning and substance. No Monets, Renaissance Art, Impressionist paintings - the kind of art that moves the soul. While Henry Art Gallery is cheap entry, I would not recommend it relative to other art exhibits in downtown Seattle proper.

One of the gems on the UW campus. Beautifully curated exhibits of modern art in a byilding with twin personalities. The original portion of the building is classical architecture. The newer portion is large open and bright spaces that show the art off.

Wonderful modern art museum on the University of Washington campus. Note: exhibits are sometimes difficult to tell if they are interactive so keep an eye on the kiddos. The building has beautiful architecture.

This was a great outing with my two little kids (5 and 2). We went on the first Thursday of the month, so admission was free. We parked in the Central plaza garage, which was easy to find with plenty of spaces and $4/hr. Took the elevator up to the plaza level and there was a sign for the Henry. After a short walk to the entrance, we had a peaceful time in the book corner near the front desk, and there was a little room with colored pencils and paper. The picture book selection was excellent Wandered around a bit in the upper level gallery (there was easy access to restrooms and easy to get around with a small stroller). The Skyspace was lovely. Then we went down a level and had lunch in the sculpture patio where the kids could run around. There was a busy cafe next to that which we bypassed since I brought lunches.I highly recommend for a peaceful outing for kids (as long as you keep your toddler contained while in the gallery). It didnt have an interactive kids exhibit like Wing Luke has, but we enjoyed it anyway.

Family friendly. The bottom floor was closed. They were setting up upcoming exhibit. $10 admission for adults. We enjoyed being there. Beautiful building.

Thank god theyve pretty much stopped showing local artists here. Seattle art institutions have no business supporting local creatives, particularly by providing them with a platform for exposure to the larger art world. If an artist isnt from New York they dont deserve a museum show. Period!

Love the staff and the art work. They are truly amazing work they provide and the quality of food they produce is amazing. It is very much worth the drive, walk, or bus trip down. I love the seasonal soups they provide. Also taste does catering for weddings and events. They provide excellent quality and quantity control.

Modern art. I am never sure if I truly like it, but I always happen upon something that resonates with me and provides fodder for discussion afterwards. This was no exception. The video of Mexicali/Calexico with the Chinese restaurants and markets was intriguing.

Either this place is the worst or I completely missed the mark. Employees at the front desk were awkward to the point where I wasn’t sure if I was in the right place. There were hardly any exhibits to see and I was left wondering, “Was that it?” Super disappointing, even for free Admission on first Thursday. Would never recommend.

Dont look to close youre going to be yelled at. Art was definitely on the odder side but thats the part of art right? Lots of wasted space throughout.

Im very glad I went on a day it was free. There was 1 exhibit, which was definitely not to my taste, and had I paid $10 I wouldve been really upset. I recommend either looking up the exhibits ahead of time to make sure you want to see it OR going on a day where admission is free.

Really great gallery. Always has a few new contemporary exhibits that are compelling and well curated. Has a James Turrell as a permanent piece that is really lovely and ideal to view some classic Seattle clouds.

Every time I go through the Bellevue area, I like to take my daughter here. There is so much to do an so many activities to experience. My daughter hated leaving the full sized mock Semi-truck but really enjoyed the water table experience too. I liked the rope climb.

The gallery is surprisingly quiet, even at midday during the school year. For UW students and faculty (who can enter for free), it is both an amazing respite from the rest of campus and a great chance to engage with contemporary art. For the general public, the entrance fee is perhaps a bit steep, and the gallery is not suitable for young children (

$1 drip coffee. A great grad student hide away. The chicken pesto sandwich is good.one of the few non Starbucks options on UW campus.

I clearly am not an artist. The place is full of stuff, that resembles the stock a market stall might sell. Unfortunately, none of it resonated with me Im sad to say. Maybe Im just too dumb but it felt like one of those pretentious wine experts going on about hints of tabaco in the summer fruit medley...

Great spot for modern art fans

I wish I came here more when I was a student. Theres usually events going on promoting exhibitions happening in this gallery. The exhibitions are usually pretty interesting and the outdoor egg dome thing is always fun to lie down in! Definitely worth a free visit if youre a student or First Thursdays :)

Went on a free day. Enjoyed the displays. Loved the community outreach childrens program.

An idea to include the light in the room by having an open sky in the room to capture the movement of the light through out the day is brilliant. The simplicity is the virtue of the art.

Very fascinated place , they have lot of sculptures and things to look at. Its a great experience over all .

Nice small galleries with a lot of great work. I like to come by and just soak up the artistic atmosphere it is a great place to just come and view quality art.

Went to the Henry today and was ultimately disappointed...save your $10 and go to a book store and buy an art book. I remember The Henry having an interesting collection of their own...they must have sold it...

A decent modern art exhibit, but its definitely a student-level collection. There isnt a lot here and what there is wont blow you away. If you can get free admission, go. If you have to pay the sticker price its just decent. There are better attractions on UWs campus.

I visit 3 or 4 times a year, especially when theres a new exhibit. Always something interesting and one or more pieces stand out, stay in mind. Displays are not crowded--no attempt to get all the art possible on a wall (even though thats a funky charm of the Frye). A gallery of the Henry caliber on a university campus, accessible to the public, nominal fee (if any) is a gift. It even moves some peeps to write crabby reviews. One of the best museums in the city.

A very ambitious and art enriching experience every time I go. I have begun to make the effort of visiting every few months because some very vital art experiences are usually on view.Very much worth the effort to fight the university traffic and parking.

Not my cup of tea. On the other hand, I did only get to see the top floor.

I really like what the Henry had when I went there. They had modern art exhibitions (as I think they always do). The pieces were provocative (edgy) and thought-provoking (clever). The vibe is countercultural, young, and irreverent - at least by the standards of a large and relatively ancient university. Its a nice contrast to the bureaucracy and general corporate-ness of the university as a whole.The pieces are generally well-executed yet accessible. The gallery seems to reflect the edgy aspects of the university and the University District. Its a nice representation of the sassy, cutting-edge approach the university and many of the students aspire to.

Interesting modern art museum adjacent to UWs red square. Would not recommend bringing children there just isnt anything for them to do or see. Size and number of exhibits are small.

Quirky space for art. Near campus, and easily accessible to students. Otherwise, not that interesting in my opinion, if you arent a UW student.

Great building, challenging exhibits of modern art. Great special exhibit on Chuck Closes photographs when we were there. Turrell light installation is well worth a visit if the weather is good and they can open the roof.

Small and all avante garde art

This jem of an art gallery is tucked inside the campus but is open to the public. They show interesting contemporary art and have an art studio for your young budding artist to create their own masterworks with construction paper, markers and glue sticks.

Nice installations. Wasnt fully open when I was there, but am looking forward to going back.
