This museum is beautiful and extremely interesting. I love how its organized, so that you can observe similarities between various cultures around common themes. The art is so detailed and inspiring. Amazing experience! I highly recommend a visit!

The Seattle Asian Art Museum reopened today after a three year closure for remodeling. An excellent upgrade that both expands gallery and storage space and for the most part keeps the integrity of the original art deco design of the building. A big addition on bringing the beautiful park outside interacting visually with the interior.

Very beautiful displays. Even though it is on the small side, it is worth the visit. When I went (one hour before closing on a Sunday) it was quite busy still. I do hope it continues to be a popular site for people to visit. It’s in a beautiful park as well so when the weather gets warmer it’s a good idea to pack a picnic

Visited during their opening weekend after being closed for remodeling. I found the museum to be really good! While the museum has two floors most of the art exhibits are on the top floor. The museum is a little different from other museums showcasing historical pieces in that the art is organized by theme rather than country or time period. I really like this concept as this helps us appreciate how different Asian cultures and time periods took it upon themselves to worship, or dress themselves etc. There is also a library and several interactive rooms/exhibits on the lower floor. Overall the remodel has created a gorgeous museum well worth your visit! Expect to spend an hour if you blaze through things and several if you like to stop and read everything. Also while there is parking on site, it is not a large lot so be prepared to park outside of the park if it is busy/nice outside.

Magnificent museum situated in Volunteer Park. Its small but offers a nice library downstairs for a vast selection of books to browse through. Its well curated and the staff is very friendly. I didnt visit it prior to the remodeling and cannot compare.

Go for the objects of course, but look up and around at the architecture. The art of display is as much on display as are the objects. Color aesthetics, symmetry, and shadow are precise tools used with intention and grace. A must-visit museum in Seattle!

Signage in ceramics room is hard to find and, because it is an electronic board with touch screen, and no instructions, very hard to figure out. The items on display throughout are beautiful. This a small sampling.

What a renovation. They perfectly blend the art deco aesthetic of the original building with sleek glass of the modem additions. And the objects on display are breathtaking

For an Asian art museum it is lacking a lot. When I say a lot, its a lot. Majority of the art work you will find here are mainly Buddhism and Hinduism from China and India. A few pieces from Korea and Japan and thats pretty much it. This was my first time here so hopefully theyll have a more diverse collection from other parts of Asia. Overall, many of the pieces were still appreciated.

Amazing remodel, I love it! All the spaces are reimagined in non-traditional ways. Much of the previous exhibition is still incorporated, but moved around so it will be a discovery experience for regulars. Lots of new things, have been brought in, including interactive exhibits, video, film, mixed media, music, and kinetic sculpture. The curators did a wonderful job of applying a cleaner, more modern aesthetic, displaying old with new, across various geographies and time periods. Very well done, thank you Seattle art lovers!

You have free admission to this museum if you paid for entry at the Seattle Art Museum. Just remember to retain your ticket for dual use and not to exceed a couple of days after seeing the SAM.This museum contained plenty of historical pieces and exhibitions. At the time I visited, there was a Japanese exhibition. Personally, it wasnt my kind of thing.Fortunately, the rest of the museum (70% of the venue) contained things that tickled my senses. There were pieces of Buddhist history (pardon my bias to Wuxia), artifacts from early Chinese history (Shang, Zhou, Han and onwards) and a bit of calligraphy too! Honestly, I am much more Chinese-oriented than Western so this museum was very entertaining. I spent almost two hours here but for an average person, you may only need one.I am unsure if the displays change. The Japanese one is very likely temporary.Refer to my pictures for some tease. ;)

When we went here, there was very loud music playing in the entry way that wasnt appropriate at all for the art. It really ruined by enjoyment of the art because the music was so political and on the nose that it made it hard to appreciate the context of some of the ancient pieces that were on display.

I loved some of the pieces, others I didnt care for. The museum itself doesnt really appeal to me because you have to backtrack to move on to the next exhibit, which means a ton of walking and it can be disruptive. 4 stars though because its in volunteer park, which is a great place to visit especially if youre new to the city or visiting
