I grew up with this park behind my house and loved it. Its still as beautiful as I remembered it.

Plenty of parking in the neighborhood even during COVID. Unfortunately not a lot of shade throughout the trail, specifically on a hot day it may feel excruciatingly long with the inclines. The 2 mile Mine hike isnt bad, pure dirt trail with plenty of space between other hikers. Lots of folks bring dogs. Great sporadic views throughout. Portapotties at the entrance to the trails is a plus with maps available to grab and go.

Almaden is a huge area to hike with many options for parking. This area is mostly street parking so be respectful of the home owners in the area. This trail is large and pretty busy after the early morning hours. There are a few off the beaten path trails too.It’s dog friendly as well on leashes.

Beautiful views of the mountains and San Jose. Air is fresh, animals are about and the trail is paved to make the walk or hike very easy and peaceful. One of my favorite hikes for either a 3 or 6 mile distance. If you get lucky you can find the family of deer foraging about. If your unlucky you might see some mountain lions!! Keep an eye and ear out and enjoy the scenery.

Took me about 2 hours to do the trail through Guadalupe. Not too many people. Great workout!

Fantastic place to relax, go for a hike and just enjoy being outdoors. Nicely maintained trails. Can be crowded at times.

Gentle hills, lush green scenery with some more open areas. Signs are posted that mountain lions and bobcat have been seen in the area, and how you deal with that. Today a mountain lion rushed across the path about 50 feet in front of me, not aggressive in any way. I waited till he was gone, then slowly made my way down the trail. No problem!

Hilly trails. Dog friendly. Lots of wildlife. Bring water, wear a hat and sunscreen on warm days.

When there’s not a lot of people you will see deer, rabbits, turkeys, foxes, snakes, and even mountain lions! Beautiful place for trail running!

Awesome place to hike and explore. With so many miles of trails that wind up and down the hills you can walk for days and never feel luke you have fully explored this place. The old mines are a fun place to poke around and learn some local history and the views are simply wonderful. The hills are steep but it is still a great place to bring the kids and give them a workout as well.

I implore you to explore the whole park! There are some splendid views(go find them all). Great place for a short hike with the kids, or a ten mile excursion.POISON OAK: It is everywhere. Stay on the paths and you will be fine. Highly recommended to educate yourself on how to identify poison oak. Its not fun to deal with.And as always lets take care of this beautiful place and clean up after ourselves, better yet if you see anything pick it up!

This is just a trailhead to Almaden Quicksilver County Park. There are no parking spots other than street parking. This trailhead is very popular, given its proximity to residential areas, so be prepared to park a bit far away during weekends. The trails on this side of the park are closed to mountain bikers. There are a few port-a-potty chemical restrooms a few walking minutes into the trail.

Amazing place! This is level up hiking trails, Not easy for beginners, Not advisable for your children or dog or any pets. The view was beautiful, relaxing and refreshing. A perfect spot to hiking, what an awesome experiences.

Trails can be strenuous. There are no rangers or authority figures I could see. Outhouses are located at the first split in the trail. Relics from the mining era piqued my curiosity. A lake and nice views keep things interesting. Its an arid region populated mostly by oak, bay laurel, madrone, and grass.

Excellent Hiking with interconnecting trails.Most of the trails are exposed and no shades.Please carry water,light snack and cap.Normally we start hiking from McBee road entrance and hike all the way to top a good 4 miles up,take rest,have a snack. ( there are couple of wooden benches),here you have fantastic views of Mount Umonohum to enjoy .From here you can continue to hike down which will take you to Almaden Quicksilver Road entrance or you can hike back to McBee road.Total hike can be 8 to 10 miles_5 to 6 hours.Good work out which builds up a great hunger

Great place for a quick hike with the family. Mine Hill entrance has a nice 2 mile loop with a decent amount of shade and elevation gain.

This was my childhood backyard. (Old man Pierce was mean and would shoot rock salt at kids on his land!) Such a wonderful place with rich and not very well known history. No, you will not be exposed to mercury visiting this park, despite the ludicrous statement by one reviewer. Yes, this site is mostly responsible for the toxic methyl mercury legacy in the Guadalupe Creek/River and Bay. Unfortunate, but indeed true. Then again, gold mining did amazing damage as well, and the mercury from New Almaden went to the Mother Lode mining efforts.New Almaden is named after the mercury mines in Almaden, Spain. Andreas Castillero discovered mercurys ore, cinnabar, RIGHT BEFORE California became a state. Lucky us! Thus Castillero Middle School (JrHS when I attended).Another lesser known fact: the hillsides above the trail entering the Senador Mine area are FULL of newly- and still un-discovered hypogeous fungi (truffles). I met a mycologist who was a leader in the field who had discovered several species here. He mentioned this park youve never heard of in SJ and that was MY Quicksilver! That was amazing.Be sure to visit the New Almaden Quicksilver Museum on Almaden Rd. to learn about the history of the park. And if you up for good (and not inexpensive) meal, visit La Foret for some excellent fare including wild game. Also, on a more somber note, you can visit the Pat Tillman memorial is between the restaurant and the main Quicksilver parking lot. Such a sad loss of a great local serving his country after 9/11.

This place is beautiful especially when everything is green

Beautiful park nestled in corner of San Jose. It takes just a couples off minutes to get out of suburbia and into nature. At this park you will find trails anywhere from 0.5 miles to more than you could likely hike in the day. The wildlife is quite typical but abundant, and I have seen wild turkeys, California Quail, turkey buzzards, crows, sea gulls, blue belly lizards, rattlesnakes, coyotes, and deer on my frequent hikes.

We hike a lot in these hills behind our house. This is one of the best trails. Its beautiful and clean. Many of the trails are nice and wide for dogs. There are a nice bunch of people who use these trails. We are definitely going back!

This park covers alot of land with views of San Jose from the top. Its a great escape from the city. Theres a good amount of shade along the paths. Theres was 3 port-a-potties (at the time of this posting) available to the public to use and a trail map down the path from the entrance. The entrance itself is within a neighborhood. The parking is street parking.

Amazing quick hike trail, great trail for running and easy trail for mountain bike, not technical at all but a great place to stay in shape and train for climbs.

Beautiful Park. Lots of dogs on leash. Big hills for hiking with nice views. Gets crowded on the weekends. We go early. Some trails are very wide.

Great park for hill climbing. From the McAbee entrance there are lots of trail options. Walk in a short distance from the trailhead and there is a map of the park and portable toilets. There are several nice loops that are 3 to 5 miles but you can continue on into the park for much longer hikes. Lots of views of the valley.

Trail leads to old mercury processing facility where emissions of mercury particulates covered the area. Left over mercury waste rock was deposited in the vicinity. It could be considered a hazardous waste site. Consider for yourself if the health risk is worth it.

Such a great park, with plenty of trails for everybody. The McAbee (NW side) entrance is busier and gives access to easier trails. The Almaden Rd entrance (SE side) is quieter and gives access to more challenging trails.

This place is just great!

A favorite place to hike. Sometimes see deer, wild turkey, even wild pigs once. The trails can be muddy after rain, the views are always awesome.
