Wow! This place is amazing. Huge house lots of rooms, lots of doors, lots of stairways, and the garden is beautiful I went at night so all of the activities were closed but if you go during the day they have axe throwing which sounds fun! I love how you could spend the afternoon here and then go to Santana Row afterwards for dinner.I came here for the Halloween flashlight tours which was at night and it was totally worth it!

Tour Date: 9/13/2020. It was a self-guided tour, with audio recordings throughout certain locations. Limited staffing giving assistance at key locations with their stories. Very interesting historical museum of Sarah Winchesters home. No cafeteria or axe throwing. Make sure you visit the Winchesters product museum in the souvenir store. Did you know they made shoe skates?

Went to the night tour on the 10/18, super cool! They provided the flashlights and allowed us to walk around at a safe distance. Didnt take too many pictures but I was able to take a picture the front of the house, the barn with a house skeleton, and the last original stove in the house. In the picture of the stove I did see something odd in the picture but I didnt catch it until I was in my way home.Very much recommend if you like museums and ghost stories.

Going to the Winchester mystery house during the pandemic was actually more enjoyable than going prior to it happening. I rather enjoyed the self guided tour because it allowed you to walk the house at your own pace. I was able to notice things I hadnt noticed from the past two times I had visited. The house still had guides in certain locations to tell you interesting facts about the house and Mrs. Winchester. I would definitely come back a 4th time however I would want to do the night tour for my next visit.

Cool spot if you’re looking for something to do! This is not any means a mystery house, it definitely is more of a historic tour. The house is fascinating with the architecture, tiny stair steps, and ghost sightings. Sarah, the owner, was a very unique and special woman so learning about her life was interesting. Tickets are around $43 so it was expensive for the experience we received. Entrance employees were pretty rude but everyone else was friendly and fun to talk with!

Forty year native of the Bay Area and last night was my first time visiting this beauty! My family and I took the 7:00 o’clock flashlight tour and we were promptly escorted into the Mansion. Sara’s house is truly unique and eerily you can kind of feel her presence. The staff here went above and beyond to ensure the safety of guests and made sure everyone kept their distance. I recommend taking this tour you will not be disappointed!

The Winchester Mystery House is a mansion in San Jose, California, that was once the personal residence of Sarah Winchester, the widow of firearm magnate William Wirt Winchester. Located at 525 South Winchester Blvd. in San Jose, the Queen Anne Style Victorian mansion is renowned for its size, its architectural curiosities, and its lack of any master building plan. It is a designated California historical landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is privately owned and serves as a tourist attraction.

I have been to the Winchester Mystery House twice now and would return again. It is a fun place to visit. It is very interesting to learn about. I think its great that you can do a self guided tour. We went with family and we all had a great time. They did a great job of making us feel comfortable and safe during our visit and the place felt very clean. Its conveniently located within walking distance to shopping and dining places downtown so you can make a day out of spending your time here and at the nearby places.

Beautifully abnormal and weird. I remember reading about the Winchester Mansion in a book almost 20 years ago and finally getting to visit did not disappoint! Walking around the gardens and outside has some beautiful views and makes for some excellent photos. There are two tours available, we enjoyed the shorter of the two tours but I have heard from friends that the longer tour is well worth it to check out the basement. The tours are guided, our tour guide was excellent really knowing her facts and how to tell a great story brought the tour and house to life. I will gladly go a second time.

Last I went on this tour I was a tween. Back then, there wasn’t much furnishings and there was a limited area that was part of the Mansion tour. I remember the tour wasn’t that long and it was hot.Now there is a Visitor Center, Store, and a place to get something to eat and drink. All of the antique furnishings are period base, not owned by Sarah Winchester. They give a better sense of how she would have lived. Some of the rooms are still left as how it was after the 1906 Earthquake, which I found fascinating because she did not have these rooms repaired. She was under 5 ft all and had arthritis. Her mansion was customer built to her size and her ailments. Lots of narrow hallways, staircases, and very short steps. The last rooms on the Daily tour (mansion) was her dining room area. The ceiling are very low.The outside grounds are free to walk around before or after the tour. It is funny to now look from inside through the mansions windows and to be outside her mansion to see “21st century San Jose” surrounding her estate, including how busy (and noisy) Winchester Blvd now is, plus Santana Row is across the street! The Winchester Mystery House is beautifully maintained and clean inside and out. Our tour guide was amazing. She had the right amount of eeriness in her voice and her period piece costume uniform. Can buy tickets advance online and in person. Best to go with a group so you can talk about your experiences after the tour. The maximum tour size is 27.NOT Accessibility or Kid Friendly: If you use a wheelchair, walker, or stroller, visiting the Winchester Mystery House is not for you. The house is not retrofitted for this and, unfortunately, you will not be able to take the Mansion Tour.

It would be the ultimate place to play hide and go seek. There is so much history in this house! If you do choose to go, do a little research before hand about Mrs. Winchester and the house. Theres even some helpful videos on youtube that go into great detail of the building of the house. The house was very modern for the time period, as Mrs. Winchester was quite innovative. If youre able to get into Dantes tour group then youre in for some fun. If youre not into the ghostly and mysterious aspect of it dont worry. They give you an amazing amount of information on the history of how people lived at the time. My father is a carpenter that does not believe in ghost. However, he still enjoyed himself very much. He got to see the odd, funny, and unique work that the carpenters did on this mansion at the time. Theres also so much antique furniture and home appliances from that era. Both tours are about an hour long. the house is very dark and a lot of places and you cant chew gum or take flash pictures in it so I would advise you to go in the morning or early afternoon when the sun is at its peak. Otherwise you might get some blurry pictures. I did not get that how to creepy feeling but the seance room was a little trippy. They are still renovating rooms and you might want to call ahead to see if some of the more historical rooms are open. They were cleaning guns and I went so I did not get to see the gun shop. The Winchester House was definitely not what I expected and an amazing surprise! I had a preconceived notion that I was going to see a large number of chaotically built little rooms, doors to nothing and stairs that lead to nowhere without any logical sense but it is in fact 160 organized bedrooms where you do have interesting multiple entrances and exits But they all are cohesive and accessible. One room leads on to another room to another staircase to another hallway to another room and each room for the most part was very nicely decorated. Anybody who enjoys architecture will not be disappointed as Sarah Winchester dude have more money that she could spend and she chose to spend it on some of the most beautiful stained glass windows I have ever seen. Definitely some of the finest enclose Windows around! And since she had more money than she knew what to do with she did indulge in very fine architectural design which was a delight to see. Then there is the Paranormal. I definitely am not easy to frighten but I did twice experience creepy cold Goosebumps it came out of nowhere. In one of the rooms I experienced the sense of swaying, as if the house was swaying beneath my feet. My daughter had a moment where she felt Frozen and unable to move, then overcome by extreme desire to sleep before snapping out of it. It made a Believer out of me that we had a small encounter with the Paranormal so anybody into that kind of thing should definitely spend some time there. A definite see!

Very interesting, although I think the tour wouldve been better had it included a lot more of the house than it did. I know, from researching it, that the mansion was expansive, and although it seemed to take a long time, we only got to see a fraction of the house. Our tour guide, Freddy/Melinda :), was so nice and extremely knowledgeable. She was very upbeat and added a definite personalization to our time there. The souvenir shop was definitely pricey, but we did end up with some items that will always remind us of this small part of our vacation.I would suggest that they offer a chance for the public to take small tours on their own, only for the sake of not feeling like youre being herded through - kinda like cattle... LolIt was rather long. I know that several people on our tour, ones just a little on the mature side of the age spectrum, had a difficult time with the narrow staircases and the up and down through the different stories of the house.I know that its mentioned on the website that its not handicapped accessible, but I think that they should probably mention that people with mobility hindrances (while walking or even standing,) or people with back problems or issues with standing for long periods, should be cautious in choosing to take this tour. The photos that are offered at the end of the tour are okay quality. Personally, I would suggest taking your own photos, maybe in front of part of the house... and then you, or someone you know whos familiar with Photoshop, create a photograph. Im just not positive that it was quite worth $39 for the 3 (semi-professional looking) prints + access to the digital files.Overall - the atmosphere was fun.A definite stop for tourists looking for an interesting afternoon, who have a few hours and dont mind a little bit more of an expensive attraction.I would go again, but Id surely allot more time and wear comfortable shoes.

Love that they offer this night time tour but it was very over priced. When we arrived it seemed very disorganized. There should have been lines for the times that you scheduled your tour. Instead they had one big line and would send you away if you were there too early and you had to start at the back of the line again. I liked the information over the speaker in each room but I felt rushed because I couldn’t get through the entire recording before a worker would come in the room and tell me to keep moving. The group behind us would walk into the room while we were still viewing and just start talking and interrupting our time in each room. This could have been managed much better. Some workers would just pop out of a dark hallway if you were looking in it and say “can I help you?” as though you were not supposed to look into a hallway even though it was right there for you to see so it threw the entire vibe off.

House and grounds are wonderful and we spent a great afternoon exploring them.Gift shop was the only disappointment offering mainly shirts and mugs. I wish the gift shop would find someone to make small ( 6x12 or 12x 20) replica stained glass pieces or painted glass pieces of some of the windows. A one foot statue replica of various fountains and statues would be great too. I’d like to feel like I’m taking a piece of the unique place home with me. Even just a Victorian era gift shop would seem more appropriate with replica jewelry, gloves, artwork, ladies and men’s hats from the time period.

Covid has some rooms off limits but its still a great placeOne way walk throughsLimited guided tours,Recommend doing some research about the house before your visitThe guides are very friendly and knowledgeable, but the way its set up right now requires guests to ask questions to get additional details about a given room, not their faultVery clean set up

August 11, 2018, This was our first trip to the Winchester mystery house so we went on the main tour and the extended tour. If you havent been GO cause its worth every penny! Although there is some windows open and fans on, the house felt like a million degrees so dress prepared. Im sharing pictures of the outside of the house, grounds and gardens, ALL beautiful by the way, because pictures and video are not allowed inside. However at the very end of the main tour our guide allowed photos of the actual costumes used in the movie Winchester. Now on the main tour the only thing I didnt like is you have NO time to really look at the rooms, items and details from tour stop to tour stop otherwise you miss the whole beginning part of what your guide is talking about. The staff is all friendly and one young lady, a manager I believe who had a yellow sweater with dress that day, was awesome for helping us get reunited with our extended tour group after missing the departing call. Both our tour guides names were similar, one was Mark and the other was Matt I believe but our extended tour guide was the coolest! Now for those who believe in the paranormal take your time and look very closely to my pictures and see what you find. We had a blast and are already planning to go for the candlelight tour and flash light tour! Thanks Sarah W. and staff for a memorable visit

LOVE this house and wish I lived nearby so I could tour it more often. Its been on my bucket list since I learned about the house back in the 80s and I was finally able to see it in 2019. I enjoyed the tour so much that I wished I could start all over as soon as it was finished. I also did the see more tour and that was also awesome. I loved being in the attic area and all the back areas that arent part of the usual tour. I live in Vancouver, Canada, and will return to this wonderful house some day.

Cool little outing!Im a museum nerd and thought it was really cool! Our tour guide was super informed and gave an excellent tour. I was hoping to get a bit more of the eerie haunted stuff but it was a day time tour so maybe we need to go to an evening tour for that! The only thing was the tour was a tad bit rushed so it was hard to take good photos that really convey the confusion with in the house! The gift shop was great too! I highly recommend visiting if you have the time! Tip:check Groupon for discounted tickets!

Absolutely lovely attraction! I definitely recommend to anyone in the area. Theres so many fun and cool facts about the house and the house itself is so charming and gorgeous. Not quite sure if its better to do the standard tour vs the standard+Extended tour. We did the standard tour which was about an hour and was very fun. They also had a super cool gingerbread version of the house inside! Super cute and smelled amazing
