San Franciscos Sistine Chapel is hidden away. You have to persist to find it, but this gem is worth a walk through the campus maze. Youll likely have the place to yourself, or get the chance to speak with a kind, enthusiastic docent. What a feast for the eyes, heart, and mind. Im only surprised its taken me so long to get here.

Its a fantastic piece and an incredible piece of art history 3 blocks from my house in Glen Park. I love that the powers that be had put the piece of Art History in SF City College to inspire those that attend the school. Considering most of us that attended are Mexican. It was a good reminder this is our home and that we are not of weak bloodlines. Its the best community college around and Im proud to be an Alumi. Thank you for the inspiration CCSF.

I auditioned here a few years ago (2014) and the seats are falling apart. There is a Performing Arts Education Center planned and funded but stalled for political reasons. Too bad San Francisco, as artistic as it is, cant provide an updated music and performance education for its residents. Please call Mayor Breed.

Go inside and youll see a workable but ordinary junior college theater, but you will have missed the beautiful mural, so please walk back into the lobby and check out the work of the artist after whom this theater was named. You might ask, why would Diego Rivera come here to execute his masterpiece? Good question. Rivera painted this work on Treasure Island, but subsequently realized he lacked his AA degree, hence the move.

The lobby of this theatre is the permanent home of Diego Riveras mural Pan American Unity. The theatre itself is very old but perfectly functional and an initmate setting for stage plays. Its not easy to find on the CCSF campus but when you do its a treat!

Horrible service. The building was closed during operation hours (10am-4pm) and no one would answer the phone with the number that was provided via text. Students have been waiting outside for up to 50 minutes already. Regardless if the faculty is on a very long lunch, they should be able to answer the phone and communicate effectively. Personally, I have already called 10 times in a 40 minute time frame and had received no response. I even called the main office unit and nothing was done.

For a theatre which produces musicals, it has no orchestra pit. the orchestra is on stage and usually overpowers the singers of dubious quality and technic, so the leads are micked. Its a horrible theatre for music, especially singers and doesnt have acoustic panels to absorb the sound. It has no box office and buying tickets is confused and cumbersome at a makeshift table at one end of the lobby, yet there are two entrances. The real draw is the diego rivera mural, yet sadly its poorly displayed for true enjoyment. Even the docents have remarked that its improperly displayed in theatre lobby to appreciate its full splendor. Why hasnt the new performing arts center been build yet? The voters passed two muni bonds already. What happened to the tax players money?
