A nice, spacious bar with good cocktails and fresh, unlimited truffle popcorn. Servers were really nice, and the space, although dimly lit, was comfortable for hanging out and chatting with friends.

Such a cool bar, cant believe I hadnt been here despite living so close. The only reason I take a star off is because we didnt know that the service charge was 21.7%, and only noticed the charge on card later. It wouldve been nice to know in advance given we also tipped on top of this pretty nicely.The entrance is tiny and kinda deceiving because inside the place is huge with plenty options to sit, stay at the bar or be near the dance floor. I made a reservation on a Friday for the same evening but when I arrived they had no seats left, they probably didnt receive my reservation in time. Despite that, the host was kind enough to find our group a seating spot, so brownie points for friendliness right there! Note that it Friday Eve so the bar is pretty full and yet our whole experience that evening was made because of how friendly the entire staff was, which happens rarely at a bar! The music was slightly loud so not your place, if you wanna just chit-chatSo we got seated, and the server brought drinks menu. They didnt have food that evening due to an event which she was sorry for, but they brought us their on-the-house truffle popcorns which I loved! The guy who made those came around to check-in twice and was super chatty and friendly as well, I forget his name but he mentioned we will be impressed by his horse-riding haha. :)Coming to drinks, great cocktails! I loved my tequila infused with spicy jalapenos and citrus, but on the second round I went with the bartenders choice, which for that evening was Wild Card. Turns out the drink was an amazing selection and nutty flavored, which for $7 was a steal! Im definitely bringing my gang again, so should you!

Stopped by on a Saturday night and I was impressed. Friendly staff, good music, and love the vibe. It is not pretentious like other San Francisco lounge and clubs.

Chill-er vibes for the club scene. The two rooms seem to give a balance of trendy and local vibes. Bartenders were cool, drinks were solid.

We hosted a client appreciation happy hour event at Hawthorn and were thoroughly happy with the entire evening. Chadwick & Charlotte were amazing to work with and were able to help bring my vision to life perfectly. To start off, the venue is absolutely beautiful with such unique décor and state-of-the art sound system.To go along with our Cuban theme, we hired Imangiere to cater our event. George was so helpful such a pleasure to work with to plan out our menu and Joseph was so professional and helpful during set up and throughout the entire event. The food was delicious!The floral that Jola from Blooming Alley created was gorgeous and perfectly complimented our theme. Our cigar roller, Patricio, was a huge hit as he rolled cigars for our guests. The DJ played the perfect blend of music complementing our theme. The highlight of our event were our Carmen Mirandas! Tracy is super-talented with costume design and make-up.Mark Sandstorm Photography does beautiful work and did an amazing job capturing the evening so well.All the bartenders, door staff, and DJ were fabulous & friendly.I highly recommend hosting a corporate event at Hawthorn. They are super professional, easy to work with, affordable and flexible. You won’t be disappointed!

Great lounge. Place was closed for company party. They have a few private spaces and a large space. Great service. Near Bart.

Staff talked about having a dress code despite no dress code being posted anywhere on their site or the event page, and while letting other guys in with ripped jeans. If youre gonna turn people away for an arbitrary dress code, make sure its known so you dont waste peoples time, or come up with a better excuse.

This is a great craft cocktail joint, walk in, sit down and drink what the mixologist tells you to drink. Then relax and enjoy

This place is a hidden gem. Very easy to miss when walking by.Our waitress was amazing and Im very sad I didnt catch her name (she has a butterfly tattoo on her hand). Every drink she recommended was superb.If you love bourbon I strongly recommend trying The Larcenist. Now if you are like me and like something a little fruitier I recommen The Good Seed. Its like Namaste in a glass, sooo good.

My Second visit here to continue my Birthday Celebration, this time my other friends came, and we had an even better time than I had the week prior, the music was great... But I do have to say that the guest DJ from Fresno was outstanding, the way he mixed was excellent, you couldnt hear abrupt changes in beats as he introduced a new song, he kept my friends and I on the dance floor... Thank you Again for a great evening! The whole staff provided awesome service as well, from the front door all the way to the bar, my friends whom had never been there were totally impressed! And, yes... Well be back!

$10 cover. Not bad but for this place its about $9.50 too much. No place to go once you get down stairs. Wasnt even crowded and it was cramped down there. Couldnt find the bathroom. Wouldnt have been an issue if I could have gotten some service from the bar tender. He looked right through me like I didnt just pay to get in there.

Love this place of good vibes and good times and music there and drinks. Hope they host really good events there and love the people there as they make it for what it is out there and women in leather skirts when they show up as they make a good happy glamorous scenes of really having a good time and just having fun there to social and make friends there.

I organized a corporate reception at Hawthorn, all while being in NYC and the experience couldnt have been better. They handled everything from coordinating food, music and decor. Charlotte and Chadwick were wonderful to work as was their caterer who did an amazing job designing an eclectic and upscale menu for us. We had a group of just about 200 and it was the perfect size space. The ambiance was perfect for an edgy, classy event with the perfect amount of food. The bartenders got rave reviews for making excellent drinks. In addition, the CEO of the company I work with is a cancer survivor. We donate money to charities that fight childhood cancer. Chadwick read about our CEOs story and donated 5% of our bar bill to the cancer charity of our choice. Thank you again Hawthorn SF! You are the best!

One of my favorite clubs ever I had the great experience there the owner is phenomenal

Great ambience, cozy setting, & great service! Celebrated my birthday here a couple of months ago, and it was perfect! Chadwick & his staff were so gracious, be it their email correspondence or impeccable service on the day of. Made me feel like royalty!The club itself has a way better(well-behaved, but still fun) crowd than most other clubs in the city. I think this is a reflection of the place itself!

It wasnt bad, good music choice. The drinks were good. It was a little small, but a good hang area.

Had a holiday office party here. They offer a wide variety of drinks and good cocktails. The staff are friendly and nice to talk to. In terms of drinks, they are one of the best I have been too. For office parties, the space is a bit too small for activities and food.

This night could have ended in a better way. The promoter or security person wasnt nice right away. This happened Nov 2nd and it was a going away party for my friend that was leaving her current job. We even bought a table and several bottles. The problem started when I took my friend to the bathroom as she wasnt feeling well and he felt compelled to tell me to leave her alone like he thought I was doing something wrong. First Im gay and always will protect my girl friends. I made a comment and apparently hurt his ego and he kicked me out for no apparent reason. Ive been here several times and have gotten several tables in the past. I want to email management but you know what it was a one time thing and I want to give them a second chance. Next time please ask your promoters to act with more respect and to learn to listen to people before showing them out the door.

The place is interesting. It had two dance floors, one for house and one for hip hop. The bathroom was clean. There was weird paintings on the wall, but overall the place is nice. They have a cover charge at the entrance. Bring cash.

Was here with some coworkers and friends for after work drinks. Poor customer service from bartender and cocktail waitresses. Orders were incorrect, drinks took a long time to come (place was hardly busy), and staff did not check-in on us for another round or to take food orders. Staff was rude when we were provided the wrong order, and stood at the corner bar chatting and on their phones. Manager did try to comp us for incorrect order, but the poor customer service ruined our evening and we unfortunately left early because of it. Nice, dark, vintage atmosphere but would not come back again.

Kelvin took care of us. Night clubs should have someone like him in charge.

Cozy venue off the beaten path, easy to order drinks

Classy place for a date night or night with friends where you wanna spend time with some good music and drinks. Dinging 1 star because the menu changes after 9 pm and there are barely any drinks on the menu to order from. The menu before 9pm has some quality drinks. Larcenist is my fav. drink.

Cocktails were too expensive and not properly made. Waiter seemed inexperienced for such a high price. Ambiance isnt that good either

Pretty awesome sound system. Great djs. Cant wait to visit again. There was a private function in the back room that was playing music a little too loud. Wish it didnt drown into the main room.

Walked in, was told I had to paid a $5 cover. Told them I was only here to briefly meet up with friends before going somewhere else. Paid the cover, then immediately after the same woman told me I had to check my bag, and that would cost $3. Meanwhile, a group of around 5 walked in behind me, asked if they could just go check it out for a few without paying. Bouncer says its new years, go have a blast!. Frustrated, I went in to meet my friends. We immediately left, I asked for a refund with no luck.Talk about getting scammed on NYE. Dont support these type of places!

Had the most HORRIBLE experience! We were discriminated. This place is not for people of color that are born and raised in SF. We were kicked out because we were asked to move in a rude way. Seriously the most horrible experience I’ve have ever had here in SF. I have been to tons of other clubs and lounges in the city and this is by far the worst I have ever been at. And the music the play is not the best. Just FYI

Interesting place to enjoy a creative cocktail. main room was spacious and lined with comfortable seating. bar was a bit crowded especially as the night went on which made getting to the wash rooms pass the bar and through the private party room in back a bit awkward. staff friendly if not fully informed to direct parties to their private functions. am going to try going back on a slower night...

Poor attitude towards people when closing down the place. The barmen and security dont need to act like major a**holes while asking people to finish their drinks and leave. Never going there again. Plenty of other nice places out there.

The place was cool enough to make me want to again another time. The drinks piqued my interest, and although I expected their tiki drink special was going to be a typically trashy drink, it actually ended up being a pretty impressive cocktail. Its a bit to dark down in the bottom floor for my taste... Makes the place seem very uninviting. We also had to put in a decent amount of effort to get our bartenders attention, who seemed a bit too involved in a conversation with his bud considering every seat at the bar was full.

Good but dark place. You can go there if you want to drink cocktails only. For me it’s not a good place to have a group conversation

Great environment and friendly staff. Good prices and the bartenders take their time to make a well-crafted cocktail. Ive had a blast here and would recommend it if you like to dance without an aquarium feel to a club.

My friend and I when last Saturday December 3 of 2016 and we made use of our credit cards. They charge more that we spent that night. And yesterday received a notification from my bank, telling that a random purchase had been declined,(pursachace that wasnt mine. I usually dont use that credit card but that night I forgot my other one, so I used it that night ) that if I recognized this transaction. So, I declined it and reported it as a fraud. I called the bank and they informed me that this was an online transaction from so city of south CA. Today I met my friend and I told her what happened to my credit card, I she told me that it happened to her too... at the same day as me, with just one hour of difference from my transaction fraud. So, we concluded that our information was stolen/hacked in the HAWTHORNE nightclub SF. So, it is a shout out to the nightclub and costumes to be awake of this. Someone is taking your cards information.

I dont get it. It is a Midwestern basement finished in the 70s. If said basement had an IG account of hot girls and and PR person. Must depend entirely on the crowd and we missed it.

I have been in the nightclub industry for 20 years in SF. Owner, promoter and Dj. The positives of Hawthorn are numerous in my opinion. Was there on a Friday night, mature, fun crowd. Mixed all the way through. That is what you want from a metropolitan city/vibe.There was enough space to dance, two rooms with beautiful speakeasy décor.Hawthorn also offers a world-class VOID sound system that keeps the beat in front of you.The go-go dancers are artistic and theatrical. Very professional and take pride in their craft.Nice and friendly front of house staff from the door to the General Manager - Andrew Saman.One of my top remarks is that they offer seats for free!! I love it. I dont have to buy a booth to sit. Good flow from room to room. Cant wait to go back with a group of friends!
