I came here for a private party. They had a coat check right next to the entrance. There was very little seating and pretty much standing room only. Theres a bar downstairs as well as upstairs. The stage was set up with a band, but we couldnt see much because we were too far back on the second floor.

Overall one of the best venues Ive been to, with amenities like an underground Bowling Alley with bar and restaurant to a dance floor thats not 90°F, its absolutely amazing to see bands here. If youre into a band but dont want to be in the push, go upstairs, theres plenty of balcony area with great views and it has its own bar and restrooms too!Oh, and as for the restaurant, get the chicken noodle soup if its available. It has an entire chicken thigh/leg thats been braised in it, homemade noodles and a broth that mostly chicken confit. Possibly the best chicken noodle soup Ive had!

I just love this place. Just wish is wasnt so far from home. I cover many acts in the Bay Area in the music scene and this is a real gem. Great acts come through its back doors and a lot of happy fans come and go through the front. Bigger acts will open the balcony, maximizing its 1,000 person cap. The second floor includes a second bar and typically a VIP area near the stage.Tucked in within the borders of Union Square its centrally located in downtown, with plenty of restaurants, bars, shopping, and ample transportation solutions. A lot of wonderful acts come through this historical venue so dont hesitate when they do. And dont be afraid to try something new! Go see live music even when you dont know who they are. They may just be your next fave-o, right?!!

Ive seen A.C.E at August Hall twice. They are the most incredible dancers and amazing singers. Both times my view of the stage to watch A.C.Es choreography was great. Also the sound was perfect, so you could hear their beautiful harmonies and details of their raps. Id see anyone at this venue. Good job.

This venue is amazing. Super cool vibes. Theres a big bar in the back and a mezzanine for larger crowds. I saw Moon Hooch here and the lower level was packed. Theres seating on the sides if you get to the venue early enough. The venue and stage kind of have a theatrical look to it which is really cool. Theres a bowling alley attached also. Free WiFi too.

Excellent sight lines in a grand old venue that began life as The Sons of The Golden West building built circa 1912. The August in the title was the first name of the architect August Goonie Headman who designed this beaux arts beauty just after studying at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris circa 1908. A brochure commemorating the opening of the building in 1912, described the interior of the new, high-rise parlor: The building contains one of the largest and best-appointed assembly halls for dances, concerts and entertainments in California... Over the main assembly hall is the largest steel truss ever built in California, and which supports the floors above. The venue is now booked by he corporation Live Nation who start shows quite promptly, oft with no opening acts. They have abundant security and zealous door staff who will wand, pat down and confiscate chewing gum, and cameras. If you need to check any items you will have to go downstairs to the faux bowling alley, pay $5 per item, and be rewarded with additional re-wanding and patting down upon reentry. Sound is pretty good, views of the stage from the floor are good, or in the balcony if you can get in the front of the railings early, otherwise you wont see much once crowds bunch up. There are two bars accessible within views of the concert performance, one downstairs and a second upstairs as well near where the sound and lighting crews are stationed. Near the restrooms is a secret back bar overlooking Mason St that has a live tv monitor feed from the live room.

I’ve been to most of the small concert venues in the city, and this one is a great addition to the field. August Hall is newly opened, but has that classic gritty SF feel. The building is restored beautifully, with fresh updates on bathrooms and the bar. Location is also super accessible. BART is close, there’s a parking garage nearby, and it’s right by Union Square, so your pregame and after party are a cinch. Looking forward to more of my favorite acts playing here!

This place should be amazing - very cool decor, good bars downstairs and up, excellent acoustics...however I dont know why exactly but it turned out to be a very frustrating experience to see an artist here. I think the bottom line is that both floors are totally flat and the stage too low. good luck seeing the artist unless:1. youre very tall2. youre in the front few rows on the floor3. youre at the railing on the balcony4. you view the show using a phone on a selfie stick while wishing you had stayed home cause you could have been in your pyjamas by nowgiven all the amazing venues in SF well be avoiding this one until they build a taller stage and/or post a no greedy sightline douchebags rule at the balcony railing.

This is a really great venue. You buy tickets here, you show up, people treat you exactly like youd like to be treated, and you see your show. Its intimate without being too tiny, and you can have a bunch of fun without feeling like youre disturbing anyone. Security was terrible they were rude and man handled me trying to push me out the door . The reason was being this venue does not let anyone under 21 out and renter. I asked someone if I could they said yes without telling me I needed to be 21 so it was the mistake of an employee ! And they wouldn’t let me back and and tried to shove me out the door and told them to stop for a minuet since my sister was still inside by herself they told me it wasn’t there problem and I needed to still leave or they would call the cops I will never return to this venue again ! I will say later I called the security company and they said all I needed to go was speak to the manager of the venue and he may be able to let me back in but the security people neglected to let me know this information . Running a business mean giving someone solutions not excuses ! P.S reason for going outside was because my feet hurt and needed to change my shoes

Its a really nice venue, well laid out, quick bar staff and nice mezzanine level. Unfortunately I dont think the sound is that great. The lights are great with a solid emphasis on the crowd.

The old Ruby Skye, semi renovated! It no longer smells like wet carpet upstairs anymore! The tables formerly at the bottom (underneath the balcony) has been converted to a bar! Theres a mini bar towards the front of the room. Theres spacious seating (where tables might go?) Near the mini bar. Layout just makes more sense! Still retains the old theater decor where it counts--the backlit faces that line the top of the theater is still there! When I went last weekend, 10/19, for Black Madonna and Honey Dijon, the coat check ($2) was located in the bowling alley downstairs--interesting! The DJ setup was located just below the stage, which felt strange, but allowed for people to dance on the stage behind the DJ--fun! All employees encountered were very pleasant and attentive. All round a good experience!

Coming back to the old Ruby Skye after a long long time gave me a jitter feeling.Walking in and the place remodeled nicely with touches on details. Structural is the same. Restrooms seems bigger with more stalls and clean (attendance frequently looked after) The back area is now a bar. The 2 side bars are now table service. Upstairs is now host control area looking down. The rest unchanged.New concert sound system is crisp, but not enough bass for electronic music.Security staff were nice, processed efficiently, get patrons in fast.Overall a nice welcoming back experience

This is about the ideal sized venue for me. Its big enough to host a concert with a somewhat known band, yet small enough that youre never too far from the stage. The sound was good to me, though Im no audiophile. The lighting made the musicians fully visible without overwhelming the ambiance of the space The bartenders were nice, and the bathroom was clean. I cant really say anything negative about the space. The only thing I would say is to take public transit. Parking is available, but very expensive, in this neighborhood.

We want this to change someone has to go through this again. Please ask August Hall to change their discriminatory and xenophobic practices so this never happens again.
