*Affordable for large families. AAA discount and -$1 for kiddos. CASH ONLY. :)*•This was a neat little plantation tour. Loads of information about the Civil War and the Smith family. We were a party of 12 with 7 kiddos. Our guide was very friendly and great with answering our kiddos questions. Very patient. We loved walking around and seeing all the original works of the home. Beautiful home and grounds. Must see! When the guided tour was done she led us outside to tour on our own. She did warn us that there have been sightings of copperhead snakes which I personally appreciated since we had little ones with us. (We didnt have an issue with seeing them).Dont pass this place up. You will enjoy. :)

Amy was just darling! Warm, friendly and genuine. She gave us a tour of this lovely home, and laughed along the way with us. She was super welcoming to any and all questions. If I could give this a higher rating that 5 stars I would! The property is beautiful, but she just made it even better.I definitely recommend this trip if youre near the Roswell area.

Smith Plantation is a wonderful piece of local history hidden in the heart of Roswell. Tours start on the hour, but the entrance is locked while a tour is in progress. We didnt know that, arrived a few minutes after the hour, and were stuck cooling our heels until the next tour. Not a great way to welcome visitors. Once inside however, it was well worth the wait.

We stumbled across this walking around Roswell and it was a pretty neat find. They do regular paid tours but we didnt have time so we went around the rest of the open plantation buildings. It was super interesting/informative and Id recommend checking it out if youre in the area.

Information was neat, but most of the tour was standing in the house and hearing long stories. No pictures allowed, and cost $8. Seemed over priced for what you get when compared to similar situations. But, $8 won’t break you, so if you like this type of thing, you may want to try.

Amy was a doll and by far the best tour guide in all of Roswell! She was warm and so welcoming. You can tell she really has a passion for history and the family! We learned a lot about the slaves and care taker, mami and her family. Thank you for recognizing all of the history on these grounds . She was so informative and my sister and I learned so many unique and cool facts! Literally had such a great experience and I wish I could give this MORE stars! Thank you thank you! The grounds are gorgeous and there’s plenty to look at. I strongly recommend Amy if you want to feel at home and have a great experience! Loved the outfit too!

This Plantation is a slice of Southern History. Very interesting cell phone narrative while sitting on antique rocking chairs on the front porch, waiting for the tour to begin. Rachel, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and guided us through the house, presenting the history of the family and plantation life in an expert manner. This was a wonderful and enjoyable experience. Highly recommend this tour.

Had a great visit. The tour guide was quiet knowledgeable about thehouse, family and, various artifacts the place held. I wish they would go more into the lives of the slaves when talking about the plantation. The tour guide spoke mostly about the family.

Gr
Review №29

Guided tour is a boring story about a white family in the south and gives very little historical context, no information about plantation life and goes on for half an hour. The house and its artifacts are interesting, and the grounds are beautiful. Skip the guide unless you are interested in the family history of total strangers.

It was an interesting tour, the focus was more on the owners of the plantation and less on the slaves and their quarters (which is why I came). Everything was open for viewing except the slave quarters which they’d used as storage and marketed employees only....... Very disappointed.

Fantastic! Michael, our tour guide, was delightful. He loves what he does and it shows. We learned so much about things I didnt know that I wanted to know! Dont just do the outside tour, its simply not complete without the guided tour of the house as well. Most of the contents of the house are original to it. Michael did a superb job making this piece of Roswell history come alive. You simply must tup him well!

The Archibald Smith Plantation Home shows the history of the area over a timespan ranging from the early Georgian colonial period to the middle 20th Century. The family owned the property and lived there for most of that time. The house shows some of the updates that were added by the family, such as the more modern kitchen. However, the family kept nearly everything that they ever owned -- even broken things. This has been a great help to historians, as they have physical evidence of period tools, fashions, etc. The square columns on the main house front show the plain plantation style. In contrast, larger plantations might have used a fancy, or classical revival, style, and often used Greco-Roman columns as an obvious sign of their success. My only concern is that the Archibald Smith Plantation Home does not go into much detail about the practice of slavery there. There are some signs with useful information on this subject, especially in the rebuilt slave quarters. However, anyone wishing a better understanding of how a plantation operated, and thereby better understand the economy of the South before, during, and after the Civil War, will have to do additional reading.
