Its situated off the mt. Rose hwy, just enough to be accessible without feeling like you are four wheeling. It is also a great park and hike location I found out. So if you are looking for some outdoor activities to enjoy locally, or if you are just on your way through and want a nice free option to enjoy, I think you will be pleased.

The center provides interesting displays and quite a few excellent displays. The staff are courteous with a high degree of knowledge. It is very clean and well maintained. They offer films and talks as well as a shop containing many books and other items for purchase. They provide a lot of information about the surrounding environment and culture . There is an abundance of free brochures detailing hiking trails and other points of interest as well as scientific data. Several walking trails start from the visitor center and the surrounding nature areas are beautiful including the small bee habitat.

Stopped in the area as a meeting point for about a dozen families and ended up going into the visitors center once it opened and found a lot of educational resources, a gift shop and creative space for children. The outside area didnt look like much with a medium sized parking lot, trail signs and lots of trees, but Im glad we went inside to spend some time looking at the area history and maps, native and local creatures, plantlife and restrooms. We hadnt planned on hiking on the trails, but saw locals and a couple with their dogs starting off. This center and volunteers were a great introduction to the area and should be included in any visitor itinerary.

Forest trails in Reno! Who would have thunk it? Quiet and uncrowded even on weekends. On weekdays, you might not see anyone else on the trail. A mix of short trails (30 minutes) and long trails (all day). From easy (slight elevation gain) to moderate to strenuous (large elevation gain). For Fall colors on the trail, they peak October 10th to October 25th.

We are so lucky to have this beautiful park in South Reno. What a great place to spend an hour, an afternoon or a whole day with your kids. The trails are easy walking, the creek is fabulous and the rangers are kid-friendly. I hope to take my students from Five Hearts Preschool in South Reno there for a field trip.

This place is wonderful, year round. Great place to hang with friends in warmer weather, hiking or bbqing. In the winter, its a great place to hike if there isnt any snow, or go snow shoeing if there is. I see some people ride their horses in dry weather, as well. Just a lovely place, all around.

We used to come here a lot to walk our dog and let him off leash but over the years the powers that be have placed more and more restrictions: Your dog essentially has to be leashed everywhere. Even in more remote areas. Its still good for a short hike without bringing Fido.Dog lovers can blame nanny state transplants for these restrictions.
