Difficult to find a parking spot. No picnic areas. But this is a great location to view Mount Saint Helens and Mount Hood from the same spot. Also, the hillside homes on stilts are amazing!

Gorgeous views of the cascade mountains and Columbia River. A lovely drive ends at the top of the Butte with a very short, somewhat steep walk to the park. Once at the park there are plenty of places to spread out on the lawn, but very few benches and no picnic tables. The views are amazing!

In all my 24 years in Portland, I never had the occasion to go check out the views from Rocky Butte. Rockys Butt , the joke your inner child, that is, ny inner child cant resist making. In all honesty I didnt know there was a view to take in. Not only that, but from an old turn of the 19th century military fortress built by a local wayward school for boys that was taken over by an old army veteran who probably charged up the hill with Teddy and his rough and ready cabinet members. And you thought Trumo was abrasive? I digress, pardon.so what brought me up to this really neat relic was a suggestion by a gentleman who was out taking photos of Portlands nightlife and easy going culture that wont stop for any anarchist or any fascists for that that matters . My buddy and I find time to work on a collaborative effort to crank out Beatles and Monkees, Don and Phil Everly (Im Don... oh, Im Tommy Roe,too. and I can be either John or Paul and I digress once again. sorry. its 11/11/22... and its getting colder out. this guy took a few pictures and tipped us $20 Quid and we started talking. my friend and I usually find time later in the evening so we go to spots furthest away from houses so not to disturb your slumber. He says theres a Sax player that plays in the tunnel up by the old fort on Rocky Butte... too easy, Ill pass, lol... oh sure sounds swell to me abs the day after my friend flew out to record an album, I went to investigate. hmmm. ok, this tunnel has great potential for throwing a rave. twist and turn. I didnt intend to go all the way to the fort, I was just cruising, enjoying the brisk air. then I came to it. man, this thing was a lot bigger than I imagined... mainly cause I wasnt . I forgot the part about the fort. that would be a chill place to play and perhaps make some DIY music videos. you can see all 5 or 7 mountains in a good day and theres a keystone compass pointing to all the interests. it was a bit too blustery to play. I had brought my mandolin along. Ill surely be back though. and that is how I ended up upon Old Rockys Arse in the middle of a cold Autumn night. cheers!

Went to view Neowise Comet. You would think that a big once in a lifetime event, the lights, especially the bright beacon keeping aircraft from crashing into it, would have been dimmed a bit for viewing. Didnt matter after the fact, since Neowise perhaps got stage fright and didnt show while we were there.

Great little park on top of a Butte. Terrific views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Saint Helens. You can also kind of see downtown Portland through the trees and there is a clear view of the Fremont Bridge to the west. The park looks kind of like a fortress, with parking surrounding the top citadel area where you can walk around. It is pretty exposed and there was a significant chilly east wind blowing when I went up, so wear a sweater. Its an easy park to access from NE and SE Portland. There didnt seem to be any trails surrounding the park, so its not so great if your looking for a hike. Everyone is there for the view, and its pretty small so not really ideal for a picnic either.

Had never been here before even though Ive lived in the area for 3 years now. I had a friend mention it late at night and figured why not. It was quite cold as it had just snowed the day prior but it was really beautiful and I really enjoyed the views. Definitely worth a trip if you havent been to it and honestly even if you are just visiting I highly recommend this place, especially at night as there are great views of the city and the mountains too depending on time of day and visibility.
