It had been maybe 6 or 7 years since we walked at Powell Butte and returned to find it better than we remembered. Meadow grasses had matured and paths were in great condition. The steeper trails on the forested back corner were appreciated for variety and a decent workout to boot. Really felt like we had left Portland behind for somewhere very different. An added bonus, due to the topography, the summit loop path is shielded from the traffic noise below making this a sound refuge as well. Ahhh...

Powell Butte Nature Park is obviously one of the best places on earth. I rank it as the second best place after Mount Hood. Unbelievable scenery any where you look. The only issue is that it’s also the most popular national park and gets lots visitors a year, so get in early to beat the crowds. Plenty of lodging options and hundreds of miles of roads and trails. This one is not to be missed.

Nice place. A little crowded on a Sunday afternoon, and parking was non existent. I had to park at the bottom of the hill and walk up (1/2 mile). Not a problem since I came to hike. I thought the weather was clear like Beaverton, but it was very cloudy at Powell, so no no good photo ops.

Felt really urban; like a hike you’d take in CA. You can’t really get away from people, you feel like it’s a little “too done” and it’s super grassy. That being said, got a 5-mile hike in and once I got away from the entrance, the crowds dwindled significantly. Would be a great trail for trail running, dog walking and people watching but if you want a hike in the city that actually feels like a hike, try Forest Park or Tryon Creek.

Saw so many people not social distancing, not wearing masks over the course of an hour. About half the people had masks on. Lots of children running about. Ive gone hiking here many times, but today was the worst.Just the other day I did the hike at silver falls and we saw maybe two people without masks over 4 hours.

A great urban park located in Gresham, Oregon. The park is currently closed to vehicular traffic and the visitor center and restrooms are not open.It is about a half mile walk up a steep road to the visitor center.A number of trails take you to the summit though open meadows with great views of the surrounding mountains and buttes.A number of other trails take you around the park including one down to the forest at the base of the Butte.Horses and bikes are allowed on some of the paved trails. The park allows pets on a leash with a scoop requirement for waste.A nice park to spend an afternoon with a great views of the mountains and a number of different trails to hike.

One star knocked off because the main gate is always closed so no close parking is available but an ingenious scofflaw like you will have no trouble devising an ingress into this fortress of lush, thriving plant and animal life . Thriving too is the non native invasive species known as the Portlandian Shelter-opposed Methhead (sorry I cant recall from school the official latin name for this species, my apologies.) So tread with some degree of alertness.

Everything is precisely explained.. what way to turn Oh but wait the Information Center... Its relatively small, But packed with interesting facts and history. I wish there were more garbage cans on the forest side.

This has always been one of my favorite parks, it feels like its own little slice of nature in the middle of a city. The trails are well maintained, and it is good for a short walk, or a longer few miles of walking as well. I give the four stars because it can get very crowded on a weekends or sunny days, which can hinder my own enjoyment, and that due to that in some areas it can become messy, but for the most part it is very clean (I really have only seen mess by the big concrete block on the hill). There is definitely plenty of parking (except for sunny weekends, but I usually avoid those anyways). My dog also loves it here, as it is very dog friendly, there is a leash rule and a pick up rule.
