Large concrete space nestled amongst apartment buildings and assorted PSU buildings, this fountain park serves as a convergence space of several interurban walking paths. There is a large food cart pod nearby and this is a popular spot for lunch, especially during the summer months. While the architecture of the fountain itself is less interesting than some of the other fountain parks of downtown Portland, it still serves as an interesting centerpiece to the space. In addition to the fountain, there is a large wooden shelter with some benches. This is a popular meeting place for homeless folks, who will often commandeer much of the seating. Ive never been hassled here, though its worth noting that there is often no seating available.Overall, this is a nice space to pass through, and take a pause, on an urban hike around the downtown sector of Portland.

This is one of my favorite landscape architecture projects in the world. Halprin had an excellent way with water and geometry. A nice place to hang out, work or just enjoy a cool water feature. Definitely worth visiting if you are a fan of design or nice fountains.

Very peaceful place . enjoy lunch and or just hangout with friends/ family/ coworkers anytime of the day. Security are always around watching, feel safe. Love the view, water feature is nice . Little nature in the middle of the city is relaxing. City does a great job keeping it Clean/ violence free. Recommend to anyone any day.

This is a historic place. Dedicated to one of the founders of the city. Amazing

This fountain came up in a search for parks with fountains for kids. However, when we arrived, we saw signs saying that the fountain isnt for playing in. Makes sense as there are a lot of sharp edges. The fountain itself is beautiful with a beautiful pavilion. I recommend it for a peaceful place to read, but its definitely not for wading or playing in, although Im sure some people do.

Great park for eating lunch or just taking a break during the day. Conveniently near a great food cart pod and a cool bookstore. No really pet friendly since theres no grass at all.

This is a great place to visit with a beautiful water feature. Theres no grass, but there are places to sit, a small covered area and plenty of people out enjoying it on nice days. However, it will be under construction until the end of 2018. Keep in mind that the covered area is typically the home of many homeless, so may not be available.

I love this fountain; beautiful to look at and fun to hang out around. Lots of space to study or eat or just hang out; a lovely public area. Calming. The one downside is that there isnt much shade since the whole area is basically concrete.

I used to come play here when I was a child... Thank goodness for a free fountain...back then....there werent as many around.... And they didnt really stop us kids from getting in them.... What water quality?!!.... ....its still nice to know its still here... Even if it gets a few homeless... Name a part of town with issues.

Architecturally, really beautiful however, the transient camps around it and frequent police activity make it less than pleasant after 4pm. Special note: DO NOT get in the water. Animal defecation, bathing, washing clothing is all very prevalent. On a lighter note, the concerts at the fountain and community events are really great to attend.

There is plenty of nearby security to talk to about whatever, whether it be questions about the area or needing help. The ppb also patrol the area frequently and help keep everything safe. Its also one of the more cool looking fountains in portland.

The fountain is beautiful and the area surrounding it is very pretty- unfortunately the water can sometimes have trash or broken glass in it. Homeless people regularly sleep on the benches here. Multiple times I was asked for Marijuana. Location is great, the people arent.

There can be a few homeless that hang around in this area (not in a scary way, but in an informative way). The fountains are actually pretty relaxing and during the summer Lovejoy Fountain is a great place to bring a good book and hang out by the fountains, on the benches around the park, or in the shade.

This is a great place to catch sun when we have it and to eat lunch or read.In March 2014, the city got some grants and pooled money to restore the park shelter, which has a copper roof. The shelter is supposed to mirror the crags of the west hills behind it, but unfortunately PSU / City of Portland blocked that with an office building and Ondine Residence Hall.
