I had a great experience with Brooke Totman in the On camera 1 and introduction to acting courses. Brookes generous, compassionate, and often hilarious teaching style created a safe space to learn and share. Im very happy that I took the leap, and I will continue to show up for workshops with Brooke and Ted.

I took my very first on-film acting class with Ted, having worked almost exclusively, and only very recently (at the time) on stage. Basically, Ted could teach anything to anyone. Hes able to connect to individual learning styles with humility and openness. Hes very accommodating of personal needs, but still holds you accountable to doing good work and mining your potential for all that he can, despite limited in-class time. The prospect of film work went from being an intimidating enigma to being a productive and fun source of extra income for me. Thank you, Ted!!

[On-Camera One] Look: If you have absolutely little to no acting experience -- especially in front of a camera -- YOU MUST TAKE THIS CLASS! A lot of acting instructors are just plain mean and attempt to really depress your self-esteem and that can REALLY damage you as a budding or even a working actor. Ted is a Professional Actor with a resume a mile long but most importantly, Hes absolutely the best as he gently moves you along to get the best maximum performance out of you in front of the camera. Hands Down , he is the best acting coach that Portland has to offer!

Taking Teds On Camera Acting I class was the very best thing I could have possibly done for myself as an actor. It was an essential step forward for my career. He is a no-nonsense dude, but nurtures any insecurities you might have (and God knows we all have them!). Now when I go to auditions, I have more confidence than I could have hoped to possess! Fantastic stuff. Cant wait to take the next class.

After trying a few different types of acting classes, I found myself in Acting 1 with Ted Rooney and absolutely adored it. The class size is perfect, everyone gets to participate, and the teacher is SO nice and genuine. He truly cares about each and every student and wants us all to succeed. I enrolled in his Acting 2 class and start this week! These are my most favorite classes ever, I really wish he taught more classes because I would take them all.

Ive taken Ted Roomeys On Camera 1 and 2 classes, and cant wait to take scene study with him when my schedule allows. He is an amazing teacher, who pushes his students to be their best, and wont take excuses. The honesty and self examination he encourages has helped me grow leaps and bounds. On top of his instruction, hes a great guy, and will always take the time to talk with you before or after class. I highly recommend taking a class with him.

I am anxious to get back in class with Ted. His most valuable gift to me was a confident sense of self; that confidence absolutely helped me book my biggest on-camera role to date -- while I was taking his class. He is down-to-earth and well able to share practical advice he has gathered during his own impressive career. Really, a terrific teacher.

Highly recommend Ted Rooney as an an acting teacher for both beginning and advanced students. I had such a great experience in Acting on Camera II. Ted is a highly skilled and experienced teacher, and creates a safe space for going deep into discovering your own process of getting into a character as an actor. He offers a wealth of information, sees the best in each student, and is able to create a safe space for helping you push past your current comfort zones and to grow in your courage, skill, and capacity.

Ted Rooney is a phenomenal acting instructor with a true passion for the art. His ability to see the best in people and influence their growth not only as performers, but as people gaining a better perspective of the intricate correlations between the real world an the world of acting is rivaled by few. The courses are intuitive enough for those less lerned in the field to build foundation, and challenging enough for the more seasoned parties to sharpen their tools. If you are seeking knowledge, skill and overall growth, look no further.

If there was a rating higher than excellent I would select it! This is a must for anyone looking for training in acting, or to just meeting locals with similar interests. Ted has been an integral part of my development as an actor. He is a genuine guy, loves his craft, and most importantly loves to see his students grow. He is more than an acting instructor; he helps you better understand yourself while engaging your personality and root of who you are into the character, their motivation, significance to the story for any given scene, etc. He also provides a safe, non-critical environment to explore characterization, scripts, etc while sharing his personal experience with students in an effort to help them understand the industry and grow as artists. He will never judge; he justs encourages and keeps pushing you to move forward. He has no time limits ( I have never seen a class end on time; its done when youre done), no room for cutting corners, just has a focus on the craft he is teaching and works out any means necessary to help the actors fine tune their craft, regardless of what extent the student has progressed. For anyone local with an interest in acting, these classes are imperative in my opinion. I feel fortunate to have met Ted and am thankful that these classes are available in Portland. Strongly recommended!!!!!

Ted and Robert improved, enhanced and inspired my acting abilities. I feel I made great strides under their instruction and I’m now “cast-able.” The studio provides a comfortable and professional environment to work and explore your potential as an actor. Because they’ve done the work themselves, they can take you right to the heart of the character, the scene and the story. They let you know exactly what you can expect from directors and casting directors at the audition and on the set. I highly recommend training here.

Ive been lucky enough to know Ted for the duration of my acting career and worked with Robert on a short film a few months ago. Both are true professionals that deliver value through their knowledge and experience. Whether youre a total noob (as I was when I took Teds On Camera I class) or a seasoned vet (which Ive become over the last few years), both of these actors have the ability to help you unlock even more potential and take your acting skill set to a deeper level.

Ted Rooney is a fantastic acting coach and teacher. I took his On Camera I and On Camera II classes. I learned SO MUCH and he really helped me climb out of my shell and give it my all when it came to acting. I had never taken any kind of acting class before, so I was nervous at first, but Ted is very understanding and kind - but he also pushes you to do your best. He focuses on each student with intent and passion. You can tell he truly wants to see you grow in your abilities. Ted has my upmost respect and admiration. Thanks Ted!

Ted is the kindest, most patient acting teacher I have ever encountered. Over the course of two years, I took lessons with him privately and in his classes. He has forever shaped my approach to on-camera work by teaching me how to do less, less, less until I finally understood how to be a presence on film.

Ive taken Teds On Camera One and Two classes, scene study, participated in an actor writer workshop and the occasional Actorcise. I appreciate Teds dedication to teaching. He doesnt seem to care about the frills of the industry and wont tell you how to get famous, bummer I know... But what Ive learned and taken away from his classes has been so valuable to me. I leave the studio feeling inspired and truly grateful to be a part of such an awesome acting community!

I had no idea what to expect from my very first ever acting class, OC I. What I learned about on camera acting further increased my interest and awareness of good quality acting. On-Camera acting is totally different from on stage/play acting. I appreciated the small class size. It allowed the class participants to get to know each other a little better, especially when pairing up to practice lines. Ted is serious about his profession, but light hearted, which compliments his teaching ability and style. He’s not only funny, but he cares about helping the student to succeed in however far they want to take their acting skills and abilities. Actor, Writer, Instructor Ted Rooney does it all.

Ted is phenomenal. Not only does he record your scenes -- so you get footage for afterward to review and learn from (great for the film actor!) -- but he also brings decades of movie and television experience, e.g., ER (TV), Seinfeld (TV), Boardwalk Empire (TV), Legally Blond (movie), Gone (movie), and on and on.

The advantages you gain from taking classes from either Ted Rooney or Robert Blanche are literally too numerous to list. But suffice it to say, you would be very hard pressed to find any teachers in the Portland area or beyond with more experience and a willingness to share so many valuable insights of the trade and industry during their classes. they both have a vast wealth of practical acting experience, learned from the actual process of doing it professionally for many years, and on many different projects, as well as much schooling themselves. I cannot recommend highly enough that you venture forth to their space and sample some of the classes offered, you will not be disappointed in the least I assure you, as for the price, it is more bang for the buck than many other classes that are out there on the market today. These giving actors and teachers are not trying to pay the rent with the classes offered, they are doing it to deepen the skill level of our acting pool, and to up the level of performance from everyone for what is expected by us all on the national level industry wide. If you have any questions about specifics pertaining to classes, I wont hesitate to answer anything about these giving, generous individuals. I can personally attest to their professional skill sets, as I have personal experience both acting with them professionally, and attending workshops from them privately. Take the leap of faith, you wont be sorry you did. E. Newsome

I posted a similar review on the other major site, so if you read that one, you can stop here. Otherwise, this is why any actor should at least take Teds intro and intermediate workshops in close succession:I have taken acting workshops from a lot of the local teachers in town. When someone asks me for an acting coach recommendation, Ted Rooney is always my first go to. He is in my opinion, the best local acting teacher for many reasons. First off, he is not an actor who didnt make it and chose to teach instead. He is a continuing working actor who still lands roles on major TV shows and films, despite choosing to stay in Portland for his family. He could easily be living in LA working more often if he wanted to. His IMDB resume speaks for itself.Despite his experience, he is a very humble, sincerely nice guy. He shares a lot of personal anecdotes of mistakes as well as successes for his students to learn from. More importantly, his class structure just makes the most sense for an actor to ease into being real in front of the camera. I dont want to give away too much because I think knowing too much in advance can affect students progress, but taking his classes in sequence from the foundation to advanced is so helpful. His system can help total newbies fast track to being camera ready in a short period of time, help theater actors shed bad habits that dont translate to the camera, and help experienced film actors refine their technique in a non-intimidating environment. Speaking of a non-intimidating environment, I highly recommend his Actorcise class as well.Since taking Teds course, I have booked gigs for Nike, Intel, InFocus, and Xerox, as well as a speaking role on Grimm, which I specifically had to remember advice from Teds workshop to deal with the audition/call back under really difficult circumstances. Cant recommend him enough.

I started taking classes with Ted Rooney in 2014 and I have nothing but positive things to say about him, what he teaches and the classes as a whole. I started with OC I(On camera acting 1), then OC II and by the end of OC II I had booked my very first Co Star role on Grimm.. I never told him this but I know that taking his classes helped me land this role. I continued with scene study class where I am constantly growing, learning, experimenting, and having a great time! His classes are supportive and a great safe learning environment whether you have been acting a while or are just curious about taking an on camera acting class. Plus the classes are recorded so you get to watch your improvement. Ted is awsome period, he is my PDX acting Yoda! You will not regret taking classes with Ted. Oh also he offers cold reading classes which are so great! Hope to see you in one of Teds classes!!!
