Very unfriendly...i thought they would be compassionate and welcoming but I was obviously homeless...pushing a rolling walker loaded with my life posessions. With multiple serious medical issues I would liked to use the walker seat to sit on. I showed them the beautiful Yair Emanuel silk tallit that I had been schlepping around during my homeless journey but they seemed very uncomfortable with my presence so I left crying. This occurred almost 2 years ago. I did noticed that the reception given to others who were well heeled was enthusiastic. They used airport codes lax pdx jfk to identify themselves. I briefly did get an opportunity to view the items in the gift store and it brought back memories of my dearly loved Aunt Anna and Uncle Sam....i am now 71 years old . I am 4 year college educated with an impressive work history. Very disappointed with the encounter. PS i grew up in NYC and worked for TWA .

This is a wonderful little museum that focuses not only on the Holocaust but particularly on local Jewish history. Theres a downstairs gallery for temporary exhibits. Also downstairs are a coffee shop (closed in summer) and a gift shop containing lots of good books... and RBG memorabilia.

We were very disappointed that the exhibit was not open. You couldnt go to the second floor to see the part that the museum is named for. I looked on line as my friend grew up jewish and we both wanted to see this. They said nothing on line that that part was closed off!!

What a great little museum! The Lodz Ghetto photo exhibit was well put together and offers a different perspective than the concurrent exhibit at the Portland Art Museum. The 2nd floor has cool and engaging permanent exhibits. Nifty gift shop. Its easy to navigate and you can see everything in a little over an hour. Im glad we joined.

The staff working at the museum took the time to give me an introduction of the space. Lovely space to educate myself about the history!

Not an everyday hang. Its an occasional visit sort of place but its good. Makes its point. Should try to engage local Jewish cultural scene in Portland now than just history.

The space is small but well designed. Great cafe and bookstore. Docents are available during the day and some weekends. In association with the Holocaust memorial in Washington Park.

The new location is great. Much better than the former Kearney street location. Visited for a film and discussion. Went to the opening exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed that visit. Have not yet eaten in the cafe. They could use a second bathroom as the wait can be long. Friendly staff. Very nice permanent exhibits and a nice space for rotating shows. The gift shop is well curated. Try it, youll like it.

I went for a school trip. the museum itself was okay, but at the end of one of the activities, the worker who was leading us gave her very opinionated and biased political views regarding current topics. i felt it was so unnecessary and uncalled for. it made me uncomfortable and took away from the experience. politics have no place in a jewish and holocaust museum, the museum is meant to bring people together in order to educate and remember, not to divide.

This museum is expanding its offerings. The permanent exhibit gives a very poignant view of the history of Nazi effect on Jews and on the history if a Jewish community in Portland. But they also bring in interesting art exhibits, e.g., right now they have 3 early Rothko paintings among other works. And historic film events. The museum is small, so exhibits are too. And they have added a small cafe.

Theyve got a very cool space that they use in interesting ways for their frequently rotating exhibit. Also, check if theyve got a movie playing - they have a beautiful 40 seat theater in the back that makes for a fun viewing experience. Definitely worth a visit!

Very well thought out exhibits. Focused primarily on the Oregon Jewish experience, and well rounded with respect to modern Jewish history.

Wide variety of exhibits related to Oregon Jews. There was an art exhibit with paintings from Mark Rothko. The intolerance exhibit was the best. Eat lunch at Leftys next door. The only thing that was missing was more explanation what the ceremonial objects are used for.

Great museum depicting the tragic history of the Holocaus. We spent most of our time exploring their exhibit on Vedem, a newspaper created by teenagers while at the Terezin camp. We would highly recommend a visit!

Personally, this is such an exciting merger. When I was on the OHRC board for several years I pushed for our Holocaust Education to have a permanent physical location, not just a website. We finally managed to get space at the old museum location. But this? Jewish History and Holocaust Education blended together in a beautiful, awe-inspiring setting? Thank you to all who made this happen. Mazel tov.
