The Phoenix art museum is simply iconic. The art speaks for itself. The employees are what make the art museum breath life! Everyone is kind and helpful. Everyone from security, ticketing to the docents, they make this place warm and inviting. The art is inticing to come back to but its the employees that make me want to..

I HOWEVER DID NOT EXPECT TO FIND AN ART MUSEUM OF DISTINCTION WITH GREAT WORKS AND THEMES. IT HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE . I DONT WRITE THIS LIGHTLY ! ART FROM THE PAST , PRESENT , AND HINTING AT ART OF THE FUTURE CAN BE EXPERIENCED AT THE PHOENIX ART MUSEUM . IF YOU HAVE LARGE FAMILY OR FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES YOU CAN VISIT WEDNESDAYS AND PAY WHAT YOU CAN.THERES NO REASON NOT TO . I WOULD RATE IT 5 STAR IF THEY DIDNT HAVE ADDITIONAL FEES FOR CERTAIN EXHIBITS .EVEN ON WEDNESDAY. BUT I REALLY RECOMMEND YOU TAKE AN ADVENTURE THROUGH OUR AMAZING WORLD AT the PHOENIX ART MUSEUM . *WHEN IT RE-OPENS

Toured the museum today with friends to take advantage of two current exhibits - Legends of Speed, and renowned photographer Ansel Adams. This museum is easy to do - meaning large, bright, comfortable, well-laid out, and very importantly, an attentive watchful staff and security personnel who are not overbearing or in your face as can happen (and has happened to us) at other large city museums. The rules are clearly stated and as long as you follow them, you will be left to yourself to experience all that the museum has to offer. Our drive was one hour, and after walking for a couple of hours once there, we soon worked up an appetite and dined (with reservations - I recommend you do this) at the on-site high-end Palette Restaurant - another satisfying experience by the way. The Legends of Speed exhibit was superbly set up and worth the trip alone for us. The Ansel Adams exhibit, while small, offered an unexpected perspective of the famous photographers work - multiple renditions of the same image but with different darkroom techniques applied to draw the eye to different objects within the photo, in effect, showing us how Adams not only mastered his subjects at the time he captured the image, but also how he masterfully manipulated the images technically to achieve a slightly different outcome, at a time when photography was very basic. Entrance fees are quite affordable and they even host days during the week where those with small budgets for this type of experience can pay what they can afford to get in. Phoenix has no shortage of great venues, and the Art Museum stands out, at least to me, as one of the top 10 venues to visit.

Smaller art museum with interesting, eclectic collections and exhibits. As a younger museum, they have robust contemporary and abstract art collections.Yayoi Kusamas permanent installation at the Phx Art Museum, You Who are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies, is breathtakingly brilliant. They are showing the special exhibition Teresita Fernández: Elemental until January 2021. Every visit is an immersion into culture, talent and history. Gazing at a portrait painted in the 1600s but well preserved and relevant in 2020. Time may fly but someones vision and talent is still physically presented hundreds of years later. Currently a collection of vintage race cars are also on display. These gems are quite special. Used on the battlefield of motorsport some still have the scars of racing the world over. I visit at least twice a year and enjoy the time spent.

Had an amazing time at the Phoenix Art Museum! We were in Phoenix for a concert and needed something to do during the day that would keep us out of the crazy September heat. Found that this location was doing a free family day and decided to go. Paid $5 per person to see the special exhibit and regret nothing at all! The art was amazing, the architecture of the museum was really enjoyable to experience, and the AC was so great. If you’re in Phoenix on a hot day and you need something to do, then go to this museum. Would definitely have been willing to pay more for the experience that we had in this museum.

I have gotten to visit the Phoenix Art Museum twice while on different trips to the area. The clean structure of the building allows the viewer to focus on the art. Of course the Firefly exhibit is a special one and a unique immersive experience.

The PAM is always intriguing, relaxing, and enjoyable. The architecture sets the tone. This time the entry was an art installation in itself - Black Swarm - all varieties of butterflies and moths made of paper. The Kusama Firefly experience puts you in an ever changing environment of tiny lights than engages your senses. The Flora exhibit has an extensive display of floral theme clothing. Needed more time in there. Lots of other memorable pieces including a huge, gorgeous Stella. The ice cream cone painting was missing this time. It is in storage. Hope to see it next time.

This is a great museum. We had only a little time on our first visit but will definitely go back!We had our 4 month old with us and he really enjoyed looking at the butterflies in the main hallway from the entrance and loved the echo of his voice up in the photography section of the top floor. The other patrons were gracious as were the the museum staff. I did not feel that we were unwelcome with our baby, who seemed to be genuinely enjoying his experience. Dont miss Yayoi Kusama’s You Who Are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies (2005). This is a permanent installation and one of only a few museums in the US with a permanent installation of hers. We went straight there and then worked our way down. The staff was helpful, the restrooms were nice and family friendly (changing tables!) and we had a great time. There is a little free photo kiosk there in the main hallway that you can get snapshots emailed to yourself or friends from which was fun. The gift shop is very nice and had a great selection of items related to the exhibits as well as great stuff for kids! The entry fee is for all day that they are open so we were glad we could run to our appointment and then return to explore more of the featured exhibit. Looking forward to going back soon.

However, the museum is piping in, or cleaning with, some chemical that is so harsh, as we continued to the Ansel Adams exhibit, my nose and throat got raw, and I started coughing, we had to leave early because I couldnt breath. Although wanting to visit the Phoenix Art Museum since making Phoenix our new home, I was drawn to visit as not to miss an opportunity to experience the Andy Warhol Exhibit. That exhibit was not a letdown, neither was the Museum as a whole! I was amazed at the size and scope of the institution and its fabulous array of art work on display. The institution has an amazing array of activities abound, depending on how much time you desire to spend there. They offer lectures and talks, varying and changing exhibitions, a fabulously amazing restaurant for this venue, and an enviable layout conducive to the admiration of incredible works that include American and Southwestern art to Contemporary and Latin American showings. My only recommendation to those who wish to enjoy Masterworks from American, Latin American, European and Asian paintings and/or sculpture and even fashion, is to visit their website to best plan your formidable and enjoyable visit. Air conditioning is a plus, but going back to the actual artwork, theres lots of stuff to explore. Paintings, illustrations, photos, little exhibits like the tiny rooms was great to see. I also like the more permanent exhibits like the Firefly Room. Without giving too much away, its one of the best rooms they have! The only downside is if youre looking for a place to eat during your visit, to either buy your lunch there, or bring a car to store your lunch in, because they wont allow food in the lockers. To keep it clean, and so the food wont go bad. But other than that little detail, its a great place to be!
