A beautiful place to enjoy nature: walking, kayaking, swimming, and picnicking! The deer moss in the woods is simply magical and you can find interesting plants and animals everywhere! We found a comb jelly (pictured), saw dolphins, and watched ospreys! At the end of our visit, a large yellow butterfly flew by.

This is the cleanest and best state park we have ever been to. The staff is absolutely amazing. You can tell they love their job and really enjoy talking with the campers and educating them on nature. The air conditioned bathrooms in the summer was awesome. The doors are closed, so no bugs inside. The campground is monitored closely, we saw someone drive by about every hour or two. Very quiet, we slept like babies. We rented kayaks and took them into the bayou and up the creek and it was our favorite part of the trip. Fishing was plentiful. Loved the trails. The campsites are huge and super private. We will definitely be back!!!

Nice quiet local park with easy access to local stores, and beaches. Has a boat ramp, fitness trail, fishing spots, bicycle and ocean kayak/canoe rentals. Dogs are not allowed in the water (?). We did not see any gators, but they are in the area. Just be on the lookout. Its great place to spend the day, a week or longer.

Short, beautiful trails to walk. Easy access to the water, but not really any beach area. Good for jumping on jet-skis and boats or just swimming right off shore. Theres a small playground in the day use area thats decent, as well as a picnic pavilion. Campground is mostly set up for RVs but you can easily tent camo there as well. Sites are mostly gravel/dirt and fenced off from each other. Some sites are more private than others due to trees in between

My family and I camped here for 3 days and it was great! It was very hot and humid of course from being in Florida in June, but our campsite had partial shade and the campground area was covered with trees. There are some pretty nice shoreline fishing spots if you dont have a boat and there is a Walmart less than 10 minutes from the park grounds so that helped with things we forgot or needed to restock on. They have 3 nice trails, the longest being 1 mile and a clean bathroom facility with showers, laundry, and a sink to wash dishes. We will definitely be back.

We stayed for several weeks, minus the weekends because of reservations made so much in advance! The staff are great, the amenities are super clean, site are spacious and offer reasonable privacy from neighbors! Of all of the campsites (mostly as backpackers, this time as RV campers) weve traveled through, this has to be the cleanest weve ever seen! Recommend to anyone who just wants a quiet getaway for a great rate for all ages! This place is not a yuppi or me or I generation focused as alot of parks are now becoming! Rarely do I ever give 5-Star Reviews. Kinda dont want to for fear of it turning into a yuppi mad show off place like most of them are or do become! Oh well, only a few more years of this self centered generation.

Great staff, site 23 was in need of an update. Someone drug the fire pit to a far corner of site 23. The retaining bolts were exposed in the ground. Staff helped me move the pit back to where the mounting bolts were. Should be a concrete pad under the fire pit. I was impressed that staff called me Saturday to confern my reservation. This was a great service.

This is such a fun place to relax with the family. This state park offers easy hiking trails, fishing, boating, and camping. It is also a great place to canoe or kayak. The campsites and hiking trails are well maintained and the facilities are very clean. They also have a nice playground area for children and several shaded pavilions with grills for guests. It is a great place to spend the day (or even a few days) to unwind and enjoy nature.

Wonderful park with friendly helpful staff. I go to the park often for kayaking, canoeing, nature trails, and just relaxing and having a nice picnic. The park is located in Niceville, and I have had nothing but positive experiences here. When the water is calm in the bay you can see dolphins pretty regularly, as they bring their babies there to feed! They have great clean camp grounds, a boat ramp for fun time on the water, a playground for the kids, grills and picnic tables, walking trails, and a friendly, helpful staff. I would recommended this park to anyone. Entrance fees are reasonable and if you live in the state of Florida I would recommended buying the yearly pass so you can enjoy all the outdoor activities the state offers. Hope this review helps convince you to get out there and have some fun in the Florida sun.

Easy boat access for Bluewater Bay. Minus 1 star because the dock decking can gouge your boat. There are no vertical pilings that exten out far enough--the planking makes a horizontal surface that can scrape a finish. Park rangers are very friendly.

This park is amazing! The hikes are pretty short. I hope they add another longer hike. The camp grounds are immaculate. The fishing is good, fishing cleaning station is okay, could be improved and they even rent kayaks/canoes out. They have bikes available for rent but the grounds are too small in my opinion to warrant a ride. We will be returning since they allow campfires inside the camping areas and at $5/visit, $18/tent camping it is a great place. Also they have firewood, ice and showers/laundry available.

Really enjoyed our 2 week stay at Rocky Bayou. Its a beautiful state park with many sizes of back-in sites. Our site 21 was gravel with water & electric and was very long and wide. The park is very close to all kinds of shopping and about 30 minutes from Fort Walton Beach. Entrance to Henderson Beach state park beaches is free for registered campers. I would highly recommend this park.

Nice camping area and a nice boat ramp. Decent amount of trailer parking as well. We got a yearly pass to use for state parks which is a bit much as far as cost. Would be much more worth it if they put a fish cleaning station in at the boat ramp area. Also if you pay for the pass. You shouldnt have to wait until 6 to go in the park to launch.

This was a beautiful park. Check Google Earth app before choosing your site. There was not much space in front of our site for navigation to back into the space. Plus there were trees to navigate around on our site. We have a 35 foot fifth wheel and it was very challenging to get parked in our site. The people were very friendly. Laundry facility had 2 washers and 2 dryers. No change machine, but the checkin office can give change for your paper.

Review №49

Really nice place. Staff and hosts are super friendly. Bath house and restrooms are clean. Campsites are wooded and it doesnt feel like a RV parking lot which I really like. No full timers, so the lived in look of permanent campers is rare. No sewage hookup at the sites, but the dump station is wide, level, and clean, and you simply cant beat the price for that area. All spots are back in and the road is narrow. Come with your back in A Game, a ground guide, or a backup camera.....or all three.

We just bought a new trailer and wanted to try it out. The Rocky Bayou State Park camp site was very nice. Each site has an electric and water hook up. Two poles that you could hang a line to hang up clothes or whatever and a picnic table. Each camp site also has a fire pit with a grate. The bathrooms were very clean as well with big showers. Plus if you forgot anything, there is a winn dixie close by.

The only problem we had at this park was another camper who was leaving did not have enough room to pack a potted plant and fishing pole they offered these items to my wife who proudly displayed the plant in the center of our picnic table and placed the pole with the other poles we had with us. Later that night one of the workers and a game warden came to our site and told us that the items had been reported stolen from a campsite after my wife described the person who gave her the items the game warden started inquiring about our other fishing equipment and motor home. As they took turns drilling my wife I explained that the equipment there was only a small part of our gear, and we had no need to steal somebody elses. They threatened to have us banned from this park and Big Lagoon state park needless to say we will never stay at either park again

My father contracted Vibrio Vulnificus bacteria in the water at Rocky Bayou on 7/5/19 and died from it two days later 7/7/19. The water at Rocky Bayou is brackish. It is the back of the bay where fresh water comes in and makes it the perfect breeding ground in warm weather for this bacteria also known as flesh eating bacteria. The park itself is wonderful and naturally occurring bacteria is not the fault of the park but since it is not part of the bacteria testing you do see posted there, there should be a sign near the swimming area warning that you should not swim with an open wound or a compromised immune system because the probability of contracting the bacteria is high for those individuals. DO NOT SWIM IN THIS WATER IN THE SUMMER WITH AN OPEN WOUND AND ABSOLUTELY NOT IF YOU ARE IMMUNE COMPROMISED. If you are healthy with no open wounds you are not at risk.

We could not get anyair tv reception. We spent the week without TV. So good luck.
