Enjoyed the venue, however, as many reviews say it is VERY tight. The seats are close together. We sat at the front left for Lobby Hero, and the view was great. Luckily for me, I had an aisle seat. The venue itself is beautiful (theater is small, but the crown molding and ceiling is gorgeous). The bathrooms are downstairs with a small bar set up for drinks at intermission. Didnt see a coat check, which may make things problematic during winter season with such small seats.

The smallest Broadway theater with only 597 seats, it is hard to go wrong in this space. The Second Stage Theater company has done a great job keeping this a viable working house with interesting presentations. Last row of the orchestra was fine, cannot imagine that the balcony is bad at this size.

This is the only theater on Broadway that exclusively produces plays by living American playwrights. Nice little theater. Orchestra seats that are near the walls on either side will not have a full view of the stage. My seat was H 8, which is third in from the wall, and the far right side of the stage was out of my view.

What a horrible theater!!! They lost our tickets and made us stand in the hallway, while their rude and confrontational “security” shuffled us around and made SURE we knew that we were in the way. We did not ask for them to lose our tickets and to be standing there. They made us feel like we were less than. To compound matters, I’m disabled and they refused to find me somewhere to sit. Absolutely atrocious. The pinnacle of Broadway could be at this theater and I’d never come back.

This theater was clean. The staff was organized in keeping people out of the way before the doors opened and the ushers efficiently made sure everyone got to their seats. The bar was a little expensive but the wine was great and they were so quick getting through the line.

Were going there for Armie Hammer.Hayes Theater is right in the heart of Broadway, on 44th Street, near the Marriot Times Square. A typical Broadway theater: old, renovated, room of some 660 seats with mezzanine, comfortable seating. I was at the orchestra level at $149 USD, so among the best places. The production featured Straight White Men with Armie Hammer, co-star of Call Me by Your Name and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Josh Charles, another movie star (Hairspray, S.W.A.T., Threesome, etc.). New Broadway way : a lot of productions with movie stars, for a limited number of weeks. In this case, from the end of June to the end of August 2018.The play boils down to a very guys meeting on Christmas Eve : the father and the 3 brothers who seem to play the same scenario over and over, from Christmas to Christmas. Armie Hammer plays the youngest brother, a writer. Very good play, even if he made his debut on Broadway. A quarter-turn staging, including several choreographies from their childhood. Very guys and very funny. The comedians are available for autographs and photos after the show, outdoors. Armie Hammer is very generous, distributing signatures and smiles to the heart.A pleasant evening that starts at 19:00 and ends at 20:30, the usual hours of shows on Broadway that give time to restore afterwards.

Had to move seats because my legs were so close to the seats in front I couldnt enjoy the show. Was in the 6th row and moved to a side seat farther away, just to enjoy. Excellent show, but the seats are horrible. Im only 6 feet tall, 175lb, and this is a newer remodeled theatre, no reason to be as close and narrow as these seats are.

Seats were relatively comfortable. Small theater so the line to get in moved very quickly. Easy to get to and so close to Times Square, other theaters, Juniors and many other restaurants. Front row seats are no uncomfortable. Some of the old architecture in the building is beautiful. The set up was organized and the line moved quickly.

Saw Torch Song at its next-to-last performance, with a sold-out crowd. Great seat in the orchestra section, but the seats are pretty small and cramped (was jammed between an elderly woman on my left and a large man on my right, both of whom needed a LOT of room). Apparently its the smallest Broadway theater, which is nice for an intimate play like this. Great energy. Not posh or palatial, but absolutely fine.

“What the constitution means to me” was a great piece of theater. However, the seating is so cramped between rows- I am 5’7 and couldn’t sit comfortably because my knees were crammed in front of me (width of seats does seem okay and better than some other theaters). We could hear honking, thunder, and police sirens throughout the show, which was distracting.

Staff was very helpful and prices were fairly less exploitive than at many other Broadway shows.Tip: If you’re on a budget and don’t mind sitting wherever, try getting Rush Tickets from the TodayTix app. Odds aren’t great but it’s worth a shot to get in.

Review №55

This theater, in which I saw, Lobby Hero, was very homey. It was sort of small and cement, if you can picture that. It was cool, and the stage seating itself was on the smaller side, so it felt almost nicer to watch the show for you were seeing things better than you would in say The Majestic Theatre. There were in fact bathrooms, two. A bar and places to sit, a tv as well that would broadcast the show if for some reason had to be out in the lobby. It was nice though, it accommodated me.

The restoration and renovation of this jewel-box theater is nothing short of exquisite. The installation of an elevator makes it so much easier to go from lower level bar and restroom to mezzanine. And the addition of a Broadway-sized house to the roster of theaters in which 2nd Stage Theater presents its season brings this wonderful organization up to the same level of professionalism and possibility as the Roundabout, Manhattan Theater Company, and Lincoln Center Theatre.

What the Constitution means to me was a wonderful show really great. But the venue is horrible. The seats are way too small and the aisles insanely tiny. My knees were jammed up against the seat in front of me the whole time. Was recently at this theater to see Torch Song. The show was an emotional masterpiece nevermind that, the theater is the topic. personally, I love this theater. I believe it is the smallest of the Broadway theaters which means that every seat is it good one. While its nice to sit in the orchestra, the balcony views are all good. The ladies bathrooms are generous - Broadway wise - and the intimacy of the theater space is conducive to a fully immersive experience.

MY KNEES ARE SCREAMING AT ME!Apparently the Helen Hayes has undergone a recent renovation. The pink crushed velvet seats were lovely on my behind, and the width is good even thought Im roomy through the hips. But the leg room... I barely remember the last act because my knees started to hurt so much.I doubt any of the orchestra seats outside of the first row are any better, but Q 102 gave me fits. I know I became the worst seat neighbor after the intermission because I couldnt find a way to place my legs that wasnt absolute agony. If youre over 6 feet, I dont know what to tell you. Youre doomed.I usually have better luck in the mezzanine, but the photos look tight up there as well. The pixilated patterned walls are a bit odd, but it all fades into the background when the house lights go down.Im super curious if the renovation is an improvement or not.I saw Lobby Hero with Michael Cena, Chris Evans, Brian Tyree Henry, & Bel Powley. The staging was great and the stage itself was large enough for the fairly intimate space. I was seated center orchestra, second to last row, and despite being blind as a bat, I could still make out Chris Evans circa 90s mustache. The play is very funny by the way. My $35 orchestra rush tickets were a great value! If I ever come back, Im just going to choose the mezzanine right off the bat. Theres no hope at all for my knees in the Orchestra.
