Amazing experience. We went to the 10pm show “what would you do for Love” and it exceeded our expectations. The comedians were 3 guys and one girl. Wish I took down her name, because she was the highlight of the show. She was a black girl with long hair; SO talented!! Would love to go back to her shows again. The show would’ve been amazing if not for the short improv actor, who kept interrupting the storyline with his unfunny plot twists. Even the other actors were annoyed by him, it was obvious. Otherwise a great experience. Laughed a lot.

Review №10

Had a really great time here! Caught the Best of Woke AF show in mid September. The first few bits were lighter on the comedy and heavier on the social commentary, which was to be expected in this particular show. Julio Torres did a bit which was probably the highlight for me. His stand up is amazing. The closing comedian didnt feel like a good pick for a UCB show, especially one called Woke AF. She had a lot of mainstream jokes and a put down sort of vibe that didnt jive well with the rest of the show, which was mostly uplifting. The theatre itself was not huge and a pretty tight squeeze. Sound was okay, but a few times the mic went out or the music was much too loud. Id see another show here next time Im in the city, though. You cant beat the price.

Went to a performance at 8:30 on a Saturday night. Ticket prices are very reasonable, $13 for the show. Show lasts about an hour. There were two performers during my improv and one of them was definitely funnier than the other. Expect different experiences based on whos performing. Id say I was laughing 70% of the time. Definitely worth trying at least once!

An awesome theater space that is part of the improvisational comedy scene in New York. You can see many talented performers here and ticket prices range from $8-$10 which is cheap! Go see a funny show and have a great night out at UCB East. They recently put mics on the stage so sound travels better into the crowd.

This was a fantastic way to start a Saturday night! The shows start at seven which works out perfectly for dinner and gives you time to digest while you laugh and laugh! The show was entirely sold out, so make sure you get there early in order to not have to sit in the back (where is can be harder to hear the quieter and faster paced jokes). The cast had great chemistry and timing which led for hilarious improv based off audience participation. I would highly recommend.

This is a theater that seems to focus on comedy and the like. They have a open group Mic night where you and your crew can go up and perform a skit or an lib something to entertain the crowd. A great, wallet-friendly, improv comedy show(s). The theatre has a small bar to hang out in and to snag some drinks before the show. They have shows almost every night and the tickets can be bought online. The best shows tend to be prime time like 7:30 on weekdays and 10 pm on the weekends.I would definitely suggest this for those living in New York looking for something new.

UCB is my favorite place to go for a quick night out during the week. Its in a really great neighborhood, and has a few shows each night (usually a night long), some of which are free! Be sure to reserve your tickets online to some of the more popular shows, otherwise youll have to hope someone doesnt show up.The theatre is a decent size and actually uses old movie-theatre seating so youll be comfortable throughout the entire show. I usually come to see the improv show (the different groups are AMAZING at what they do), but I did happen to catch a variety show: story-telling, music, comedy. Overall, a great place to catch a break during the week ($5) or on the weekend ($10). be sure to check out the attached bar after the performance, and hang out with the comedians!

I love improv and having attended shows in DC, Chicago, and Charlotte, I was looking forward to the show, for which I purchased tickets a few weeks in advance. The exterior of the venue was promising... Sort of incognito and campy. But inside...I was disappointed. Ticket taker could not have been less interested me, or in the show. Innue or just bored hipster... hard to say. A downer either way. Though billed as open seating, many choice seats were reserved/marked off with making tape. Non-tiered seating and seats in straight lines rather than staggered made it difficult see beyond the person seated in front of you. The show and the cast vary each night so the rest of this review applies only to the one show I caught. The entire one hour show was cast skits improvised/extrapolated from an interview with an audience member. Unfortunately, the troupe had milked the story dry after 20 minutes. The cast worked together well and clearly had well established communication routes. They respected one another and gave each other wide berth for creativity. But too many of the skits fizzled early with no one willing to pull the plug. Intermission thankfully arrived, but there was no clear guidance as to where to go or what to do for anyone unfamiliar with the venue. Hoping for a new start after intermission, I was disappointed to see the group return to the same premise. On the bright side, ticket costs are low, as were expectations of the audience.

Cozy and modest comedy joint offering various comedy night specials. The location is absolutely fantastic for resident neighbors and out goers alike. After a night full of chuckles, talent and laughter, exit through the back door to find yourself in the Two Boots pizzeria, offering artist inspired pizzas and amazing calzones. At a mid prize range, it is definitely worth the experience. If you are a tourist in the lower east side, come to this spot for a New York comedy nite. Do have in mind that this establishment is not a comedy bar, it is a small theatre. On the bright side, no two drink minimums are required but on the down side, if you want a drink, you would have to exit the theatre and come back in.

UCB is an iconic comedy spot in NYC. A good number of SNL actors started at UCB. UCB is primarily a spot to see sketch and improv comedy. These people are hilarious! But UCB also offers classes to teach sketch comedy writing, sketch comedy acting, as well as improv comedy acting. I believe UCB now offers classes on improv comedy singing (which is pretty difficult). UCB is open almost every night with different shows all the time. Stages are very intimate so there may be 50-100 people to see a sketch show. And you never know who may show up. Ive gone several times (each a different themed show) and have seen several people from SNL perform. Its a great experience.
