There are not as many museums anywhere that take one subject and do it so well as this one. It’s well worth the full cost. I just love coming here and looking at everything and the gardens are amazing. It’s also a great people watch place. Take your time and enjoy all the pieces they have to show. There was plenty of parking when I went and after your done you have the whole park to explore.

I went to the met cloisters today. The gardens are gorgeous!! But don’t recommend buying the $25 ticket. We were asked to wait in line along with people without tickets...so it didn’t seem like it mattered that we paid ahead of time to reserve. The ticket does not promise getting in early. Just go in the morning time and you won’t have any problem getting in :) also, don’t need to print out the tickets if you have a phone to scan the barcode.

If I had traveled specially from the city this facility and the museum would probably have disappointed me.it is a building erected in the 1920s that looks like a medieval complex. Very interesting place for New York City. Nice architecture. Getting here is a bit of a hike from the train. Best to be on your guard to . The area can be a bit questionable at times. Best to know your surroundings. Great artifacts inside and the special exhibits are fantastic. Good option is very small. There is a cafe but food is just ok with very little options. But I still recommend this place. Go when the weather is nice.

Beautiful place with fascinating artifacts atranged well within amazing indoor and outdoor spaces (even a garden with unusual selections of herbs). Be warned though to not come hungry, since its quite out of the way, rather disappointed that there wasnt any easy access cafes nor snack counters in the main building areas. Quite a steep walk down many steps before we reached reception areas and cafe is supposedly in another building.

One of my favorite museums in the city; its always well worth the subway ride. The walk up to the museum has wonderful views of the Hudson that make the steep climb easier. On a very hot and steamy Saturday afternoon I decided to take a step back in time, and escape the heat, so naturally I went to the Cloisters. Thick stone walls protected me from the heat while sheltering the precious artifacts inside. The architecture alone should encourage a visit. The fabulous views of the Hudson should demand a visit. However the reminder of a much different era is brought home to those who dare visit the most Northern part of Manattan. The museum is small and can be easily toured in a couple of hours. The park around the Cloisters can take much longer.

The sunnier, the better so you can fully enjoy the outdoor garden and cafe. The museum itself is beautiful but given its size the space fills up quickly with quite a few tour groups going around. I’d recommend spending time in the flower garden and bringing a book. Often times there will be music or the odd vocalist which makes the experience far richer.

Great collection of medieval art. This is not everybodys cup of tea, but the wonderfully detailed carvings, sculptures, tapestries, stained glass and Decorative Arts are really amazing. Take a moment to see how amazingly detailed they are. Works of great artistic skill, effort and patience. There are also some lovely little gardens, and great views of the Hudson River. More terrific views and forest trails are at hand in Fort Tryon Park, where the museum is located. The medieval architecture is pretty cool too. Much of it brought over from monestaries in Europe.

An excellent way to spend your late morning and early afternoon, a magnificant combination of art, arhitecture and botany at one place, a secret gem of NYC!If you come with a public transpot, you can use A train from Times Square 42nd Street, by following Uptown direction (Inwood, 207 Street). It takes about 30min. to reach Dyckman Street. From this station you have like 15 more minutes through the Fort Tryon Park and you are there. The Met Cloisters Museum is the part of thefamous MET Museum, and its open every day except on Tuesday and Wednesday. The ticket is $25 per diem for adults, but if you are the NYC resident you can come in with your ID and a symbolic donation ($5-10).There is no time limit for any visit, but there are some changes due to pandemuc: masks are mandatory, you need to follow red arrows on the ground and there is no moving backward during the visit. It means that each visitor has to go in one direction. The Souvenir Store is open and its very well supplied.

They have a new exhibit - Medieval Jewish History which was very interesting (also small) - I thin its on exhibit until January. Its in the lower level leading to the garden. If you are a Ny resident, you can pay whatever you want which is so nice because we were only there for about 45 minutes. There are tours which are good if its your first time so you can get a sense of the exhibits. Theres always a lot of information to read so it can get overwhelming- so with children, short visits are great. Also, if you are going with children, they have a scavenger hunt throughout the museum which makes it so much more fun.

One of most unique museums in NYC. The building is sort of a Frankensteins monster of a cloister, patched together from different European medieval structures (and even though the result could look awful and gaudy, it totally works here, its all very somber and of good taste), sitting on the top of a hill, overlooking the Hudson river. Fill it with all sort of wonderful (mostly religious) artifacts from the Mets collection, and youve got one of the best museum trips in the city.I visited the place in winter, but my guide told me the best time to come is during spring and summer, since theres a wide variety of trees, flowers and other greenery in the cloisters during those seasons.

It begins with the hike up to the Cloisters here. Definitely enjoy the walk up as you overlook the Hudson River. The entrance is donation based and once inside, theres plenty to see. Expensive with lots of stairs but worth the trip at least once to see the unicorn tapestries. Gloomy inside but it gives you a sense of what medieval architecture was really like. Some nice stained glass. A lot of religious art. Some very cool wood carvings. A well done but, thin, exhibit of Jewish objects from the middle ages that were hidden in a wall in a town in Germany. I think the met did a pretty good job of padding the exhibit with other objects that werent part of the hidden treasure trove. Those other objects and the curators notes put the treasure trove objects into context. Beware that the cafe is closed in the winter. The price of admission gives you access to three days worth of three affiliated museums. but its definitely a pricey ticket if all you want to do is go and visit the cloisters. The gift shop has a good variety of objects including some in the $10 range.

Part of the MET triumvirate (5th Avenue, Cloisters, Breuer) Wikipedia says the Cloisters displays or features European medieval architecture, sculpture and decorative arts, with a focus on the Romanesque and Gothic periods. A lot of religious paraphernalia, icons and artwork indicative of the huge role of the church in medieval peoples lives. Doorways, chapels and halls rebuilt to fit into the structure itself. Sarcophagi of knights and priests or monks. My favorite is the Unicorn Tapestry Room. Prepare to get lost in the ear.Entrance is $25 for non residents. But is good for entry into the 2 other Met museums within 3 days of purchase. Easy enough to get here using the subway. From downtown Manhattan, take the Uptown A train and get off at 190th street and take the bus to the Cloisters stop. Or get off at the Dyckman Street Subway stop and walk through the park uphill to the museum. The views alone are worth the extra effort. There is a cafe serving sandwiches and wraps and is expensive ($14 for a buffalo chicken wrap)
