A folk artist himself and the creator of Algiers Folk Art Museum is the amazing Charles Gillam. If you want to visit there, make an appointment with him in advance and he will give you a guided tour, share a vast wealth of information abuot Louisiana folk art and the important artists you should know.
Was taking a walk from the old Algiers Courthouse after early voting and stopped in. Cool selection from art pieces to jewelry. I didnt take pics out of respect for the artists intellectual property.
As a tourist here, expected a good bit more as it was mapped as a museum, 75 dollars in Ubers later from/to french quarter was disappointing. Local culture is great but a few vendors and a one room were too simple and left a meh feeling.
Very interesting, Mr. Gillum is a wealth of blues information, a true gem of the city!
A lovely tour by Mr. Gillam of his and other folk artists beautiful work. He has stories upon stories and is a very kind fellow! I really enjoyed seeing his museum. Since its just run by he and his wife be sure to call first and if theres a delay, you can get a drink or bite to est st the convenience store, or Old Point Bar down the road. Recommended!
What a great festival to see the local folk art & hear live music
I always learn about history with Mr Gilliam..Its amazing what Mr. Gilliam can turn into art work out of driftwood.. I just love to spend some time at the blues Museum with Mr. Charles Gilliam..
If you ever in Algiers you need to go by very tasteful magnificent art
Sadly ️ it was closed for renovations.
