Ive been on many trips with WI and each is special and memorable. Until recently, I did all the logistics for camping, backpacking, canoeing and kayaking trips (usually with my daughters their families and friends but sometimes by myself) for many years. Now its too hard for me to do the heavy lifting and that is where WI excels. The well-training and compassionate staff provide as little or as much assistance as is requested. I plan to continue taking two or three WI trips per year for as long as I can (hopefully many years). Looking forward to meeting new folks on WI trips.

We just returned from a kayaking tour of the Apostle Islands and sea caves. My sons and I cant stop smiling as we reflect on the skills we learned, friends we made, and memories we will have for a lifetime. The guides: Izzie, Kevin, and Jim, were knowledgeable, patient, and fun! We always felt safe and secure. We saw shipwrecks in Lake Superior and entered a sea cave that left us in awe. I cant wait to have another camping experience with Wilderness Inquiry. Thank you WI for helping us to connect with nature and each other in a meaningful way. We are extremely grateful!

I have been on several Wilderness Inquiry (WI) trips; the most recent being the Florida Everglades canoe trip. For most of my life I have organized and led trips, for example to the BWCAW every year with my daughters. In the past few years an arthritic hip has made it difficult to do the heavy lifting. I discovered Wilderness Inquiry whose mission is to ensure that the wilderness is accessible to ALL and thajnk goodness am able to spent time in the deep woods again. I am so impressed with the skill, dedication, and compassion of the WI staff. They are extraordinary at creating a welcoming and inclusive experience, and building comradery among the group members. Plus providing healthy meals and doing the heavy lifting. I plan to continue to participate in one or two WI trips each year as long as I am able, and WI can likely extent my able period. Next WI trip is to the Apostle Islands next month.

I was having a really tough time in life and my therapist advised me to try something new, so i tried camping, i went on one of there trips and there was this one rude and racist girl name Sarah, it was my first time camping and she was making me feel like i was stupid and i could never do anything with my life. she was always nice to the white people. i will never come back and i will not advise anyone to come.

Wilderness Inquiry made it possible for my family of six to experience the BWCA. We camped with two other families and three Wilderness Inquiry guides for 4 nights with 3 full days of canoeing and hiking. Our guides worked with great confidence and enthusiasm. Traveling with Wilderness Inquiry on their Family Adventures makes it a true family vacation - parents get to relax and enjoy time with their children rather than planning and executing the activities and, most importantly, to every parent on the planet, the meals!

My Wilderness Inquiry experiences werelife-changing. Canoeing the Missouri I developedan interest in Lewis and Clark and joined theLewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation which ledto further adventures. I gained independence, courage, and a deep love of nature. My WI companions werefantastic. I loved every minute, even those minutesunder a tarp during a rainstorm on the shore ofYellowstone Lake. WI is a fabulous organization.Karen Ekdahl

Our group of four older adults joined seven others of various ages and abilities on a four-day trip to the Boundary Waters. Brian, Joe and Jim (the WI staff) were great at creating a cohesive community out of our diverse group. They were flexible in dealing with changing weather conditions and provided alternate activities when scheduled ones weren’t possible. Not only that, they did all of the cooking and cleaning up, and the lodge that was our base provided comfortable beds. It was a wonderful way to be able to enjoy the Northwoods again.

Wilderness inquiry took me, and my immediate family (in both directions) on a canoe/camping trip and it was fantastic! They were knowledgeable and pleasant company, and did all the cooking, cleaning, and planning so my family and i had more time to just relax and be with each other in nature. My children learned much about the local natural spaces as well as the personal and political importance of protecting them.

They do an incredible job of taking care of everyone and their individual needs. We stayed in a YWCA Lodge near the Boundary Waters; the food was great as well as the facility. My husband and I have kayaked on the Great Lakes and elsewhere for over 50 years. In 2016, well into our nineties, we had the opportunity for a 4-day weekend camping and kayaking with Wilderness Inquiry in Lake Superior. We had just the right amount of help and support and had a most enjoyable time. Especially impressed by the philosophy that the trip is for everyone rather than a competitive attitude of who can experience the most daring or strenuous feats of paddling!

My son and I went on our first Wilderness Inquiry trip when he was 8, he is now 26 and I am a grandma. :) These guys are amazing. I’ve seen some pretty great things, met so many good people, and was treated like family. I truly believe Wilderness Inquiry helped in making my son the man he is today. I can’t say enough good things about these folks. Get on the trail with them and see for yourself. You’ll have once in a lifetime memories that last a lifetime.

WI provided an outstanding wilderness camping experience for my son who has cognitive disabilities. Id searched for years to find a program that could offer him the kind of opportunity that meant so much to his older siblings. That was more than 20 years ago, and he continues to share his happy memories of that trip.

WI has been one of the highlights of my year! I teach high school AVID students, and they took us on a canoe trip in the fall and an overnight on the coldest night of the winter! I cant say enough about this program, who generously delivered two unforgettable experiences for us. They were well-prepared, patient with urban teens who were a little scared of nature, patient with a disorganized teacher (me), and just all-around amazing humans. Love, love, love WI and hope to keep working with them forever.

After a number of years volunteering with Wilderness Inquiry (WI) I had the opportunity to take my own students on an outdoor adventure through WI. From the start of our correspondence I found them to be incredibly helpful, doing all they could to meet my needs and the needs of my students! They were so well organized, highly skilled at working with children from diverse backgrounds and saw to every detail! All of this made our all day field trip very manageable and a complete success! I look forward to future adventures with my students and WI!

We took our 13 year old special-needs son on a camp and sea kayak experience at the Apostle Islands. It was wonderful! The staff were super professional but also really mellow and calm, and they got everyone involved so the big group all helped together and had fun and we felt welcomed and supported in our sons needs. Highly recommend these guys and cant wait to do a longer trip with them!

My husband and I have been on several Wilderness Inquiry adventures, from kayaking in the Apostle Islands to hiking in Costa Rica to taking a safari in Tanzania. The company always puts safety and education first and is environmentally responsible. They take time to build a team of temporary travelers, so everyone feels included in the adventure--singles, couples, families. You will return from a trip feeling more connected to the earth and your new friends around the globe.

I have a son on the Autism Spectrum. Before we really knew what was going on, WI was a great way for us to do some family trips and have help from experienced staff to make things easier for someone with sensory and coordination issues. Later on in his life my son was able to go on several group trips with other youth with varied disabilities, where he learned a lot about his capabilities, leadership skills and helping others. My son wasnt able to take part in options like Camp Widjiwagan that his brother and cousins did, but WI made it possible for him to havemany fantastic wilderness experiences, too!

My husband and I went with Wilderness Inquiry to Tanzania last February. Our trip was absolutely amazing! Our driver/guide, Philip, knew his stuff and took us to so many wonderful places! We were able to see the big 5, as well as many more of the African animals UP CLOSE. Philip taught us so much about all of the animals and their habitats. My husband and I felt like we were in an outdoor African classroom! We also met people from different local tribes, visited great shops, ate at local restaurants, spent a day at a school, and even hunted with the Hdzabas! We never felt unsafe. Philip kept our vehicle running when we were right next to lions, elephants, cheetahs, leopards, zebra, giraffe, baboons, wildebeest, and an endless number of other African inhabitants. (We took over 4,000 pictures!) Our lodging was varied, but always very clean with everything we needed. We thought it was rather amusing that the best WiFi connection was in a tent in the middle of the Serengeti! The food was fabulous; I think we gained a few pounds! When my husband lost his passport pouch out in the bush, Philip went above and beyond, scouting with the local hunters, to make sure it was found and returned. We will be forever grateful for that kindness and extra effort. Needless to say, we would not hesitate to go on another Wilderness Inquiry adventure in the future!
