Wonderful intermediate level mountain trails. I love spend hours here, connecting with mother nature. Its big enough that you have several different route choices and you arent constantly running into other people, which is a big deal for me.I definitely recommend this location for either a family outing or just a getaway from your everyday stress.

If you are serious hiker or trail runner, this place is for you. Steep grades and grandeur rock formations that makes one think that you are on the set of Jurassic Park. Free admission. This trail is NOT for mountain biking like it says.

Very nice land trust trail in Madison, Alabama. The trail is a 1.5 mile loop. If you start out clockwise around the loop, the most interesting points will be at the very end of the hike. This trail can be a bit crowded due to its location. The trail is very rocky, so it can be slow going for kids under 5, but it is still very doable with young kids.

Exceptionally adventurous hiking right in the heart of Madison. If you visit while the ground is wet, lace up some hiking boots. The terrain is almost entirely rock surface, and the Rainbow Mountain Loop Trail dives down the mountain and then climbs back up again. Catch glimpses of rock bluffs, a waterfall, several vistas, rock formations, and plenty of beauty. Cant wait to come back when the leaves have appeared, but todays winter hike was mysterious and gorgeous in the low fog. Perfect for a lunch break hike or two.

My only complaint about this trailhead is there are no bathrooms in spite of it having a playground/picnic area. The trails are surprisingly more challenging than you might think, and there are some areas perfect for bouldering on the main loop. An enjoyable hiking spot on the west side of the city for sure.

Absolutely beautiful hike. Very rocky and alot of incline/decline. Not a bad hike though. Lace up your good hiking shoes and hit this beautiful trail. Lots of range for different levels of hikers. Short and long trails and you can even stack trails like we did for an even longer go at it. ALSO DOG FRIENDLY!

Beautiful scenery, several different trails ranging from beginner to expert. Theres a park for kids to play, and picnic tables under a pavillion. Also on the easier trails there are benches located in random spots for you to rest a moment if you get winded. Just do not get caught out here after sundown, the cops get tipped by local neighbors and will hurry up there to nag and question you.

Its a pretty, albeit short trail in the heart of Madison. The main loop is roughly 2 miles, and theres a spur loop that adds an extra mile. There are also a couple of less-maintained side trails. Theyre moderately steep with a few difficult steps across rocks. By Alabama standards, Id rate the trails somewhere between medium and hard.

Really nice trails. They have nice maps for you to view at the trail head. Not the best markers on the trail but there are quite a few on the trail. Has a variety of terrain. Nice creeks and waterfalls depending on the trail. Has some rocky sections that you should pay attention to. Gets really slick and muddy after it has been raining.

Nice rocky hiking trails. Watch your step. Where good hiking boots. We only saw 1 snake and a few birds. A couple of benches along the trails to rest and one by the small waterfalls. Always watch your step, very rocky trails. Had a great time. 2-3 hrs. Bring a walking stick if your a novice or not, it helps. We loaned 1 of ours to someone who hurt there ankle along the trail to help them walk back out.

This is one of my favorite hikes and trail running areas. Its a little more difficult than some others because of the Rocky terrain but its beautiful and as with all the Land Trust preserves it is well maintained. It also has a playground if your taking kids for a hike.

My 4 year old nephew and I walked a trail for the first time together and first time here. The trail was well marked and very easy to download the loop on my phone to double check that we were going in the right direction. Its a easy hike that we both enjoyed. There is a parking area with picnic tables, a portapotty and park for kids.

I hiked this trail on a whim for 2 hours. The trail is VERY well marked. There are significant elevation changes. It is very beautiful. All the tree cover kept the temperatures down despite being summer. Balanced Rock and the other outcropping are fun to boulder on and interesting. I had multiple wildlife sightings, including a climbing raccoon, a ground hog (or something similar), a reddish brown skink and some really cool insects. At the time I was there, the stream and waterfall were very small but still pleasant. Great hike right in what feels like a suburb!

Beautiful and very awesome hiking trails! Theres even a playground and swings for the little ones at the entrance point. There are multiple trail options (see attached trail map) of varying distance and difficulty. The mountain views are incredible (especially when all the leaves have dropped), and you can even spot the Saturn 5 Rocket from up there. Theres even a creek/small water falls which is awesome. I also like how the the trails are rocky and lots of varying terrain.. I would not say this is an Easy trail, but slightly moderate and great for exercise.

This is a nice little hiking trail. An average American will have no issues with these trails. The trail head is right by the parking lot, and has a small park for kids to play at before/after the hike. There are a few different trial options. The trails also intersect, so there are several combinations for different hikes. The trails range from about 1.54 mi, up to more than 5mi depending on how you connect them. See the map on the website. The terrain is easy, but does have some large rocks to step over. There are plenty of up/down steep grades, but nothing the average human and/or dog cant do. These trails are dog friendly, but not stroller friendly. Would go again.

An excellent Community hiking Park!Word of advice, when she invites you to go hiking on rainbow Mountain, make sure you have your act together. This day in hindsight turned out to be one of those paradigm shift points in my life where nothing was ever going to be same again, across the full spectrum of my life. Didnt seem like much at the time, just another bad luck day. It became a powerful catalyst for an entire cascade of events that the aftershocks of which still have not settled nearly 2yrs later.

This was a fun trail. It wasn’t too difficult or too long (and I have bad knees). My dog really enjoyed it. I look forward to returning soon and taking some of the other paths. I like that I had cell reception basically the whole way through so I didn’t feel nervous taking the trail alone. There is also a small park at the beginning of the trails. It seemed to be pretty popular the day I went, too, so you’re never really alone out there. I absolutely recommend, though!

Perfect place right in the middle of Madison. Surprisingly easy to get on the the wrong trail or a trail created by kids. An occasional look backward for Landtrust markers will ensure youre on the right track. From the parking lot take the trail to the right to get to all the cool rock formations. You can spend a lot of time here and simply walk back to your car and have had a nice outing. The complete loop is strenuous if youre not used to rocky trails with a fair amount of vertical change.
