This is a great venue for a show. The place literally used to be a theater and still has the seats. There also is an area in front of the stage for standing. I love the look and feel of this theater. It appears very little has been updated which gives it a very vintage feel which I love. The sound/acoustics were fantastic. I liked that if I got tired of standing I could easily find a seat and even if I was in the back the sound still was good and I could see everything going on on stage. I definitely will be back the next time there is a band that I want to see. Check this place out if you see there is a performance you want to see. You will not be disappointed.

Its a decent spot for a show but the parking is horrible!!! If youre going to see someone/thing with a following I definitely recommend getting there super early. When I went I was looking for a parking for about an hour and still ended up with a ticket where I thought was a good spot to park.

Personally I dont really want to listen to any music other than maybe a classical concert seated. To make matters worse the seats here are like sitting the middle seat of a Frontier flight. When you consider what a typical ticket costs its just not worth the discomfort. Ill be skipping this for more enjoyable music venues.Itd be a decent theater for movies, just not a good music venue.

A beautiful old theater. Great place to see music and comedy shows. Security is a little over kill, I was rubbing my knee due to arthritis, and security guy came over 3 times flashing his light and making me show my hands. I had to show him my phone, that was in my jacket, turned off. I can understand once, but 3 times was excessive.

There have been some beautiful artist and actors that have performed here and many great upcoming performances! The masks and costumes on display are actually for sale. I believe theyre from the Central and South American Region, but please contact the owner for more details. Theyre fascinating! If you are looking for some great entertainment, you should check out the upcoming performances...youll be glad you did!

Good theatre for shows. Biggest complaint is the speaker system which is old and outdated. We saw Guys On Ice here and the speakers just didnt do the job. Primary issue was clarity not volume so it wasnt the AV tech at fault. I wouldnt see a high budget show here unless they brought their own equipment with. Otherwise they serve reasonably priced drinks, good food, and the rest of the theatre was nice.

Barrymore is located in an iconic Madison neighborhood at top of Willy Street on Atwood. Cant beat the vibe, and new seats in the theatre and other renovations along with some great shows make it all unbeatable for a night out on the town.Very nice lobby bar, and popcorn is for sale lobby. Balcony is not acrophobia-inducing nor steeply raked, but there is plenty of main floor seating. Be careful to not sit in back of the sound controls area in the center of the main floor though - blocks the view from some seats.SO many restaurants right there on Atwood if you would like food before or after show. Lao Laan Xang immediately next door for superb Laotian and curry dishes, Montys across the street for always excellent diner fare/comfort food/vegan dishes/drinks/desserts, Tex Tubbs Taco Palace on the corner for a fun fiesta atmosphere complete with margaritas. Dont forget Dobhan - so good!!! Too many great places to list - all within walking distance of theatre. Not sure about parking..... available on street and some lots are right next to theatre. Take the bus or bike if you can and youll be right in there doing high fives with the locals. One note: Great drink options, but popcorn could use an upgrade. Not sure what brand they use - and Im not saying Im going to Marcus theatres instead of Barrymore - but the popcorn is definitely yummier at the giant corporate theater. Easy to fix, Id guess : )

Great building. It is very nice inside compared to what I expected given its age. Beer selection is surprisingly good for a theatre like this. They dont skimp on their mixed drinks like lots of venues. The constant, extreme smell of popcorn in the lobby makes me almost want to get popcorn. Bathrooms are downstairs and I hit my head on a hvac duct coming out of a stall (Im 62). Theres this dude who seems to always be busking out front. Hes hilarious and you shouldnt be afraid of him.

Review №55

Its acceptable. Theres not much thats special about it. It looks like a repurposed movie theater. The concessions were overpriced, though no more than any other theater/venue. Im displeased at the ticket/seating set up however. I paid extra for fancy seats, and they were all taken by the time I got there. So I ended up paying for front row and getting stuck in the nosebleeds anyways, because all seating is first come first serve.

The Barrymore is a staple theatre for Madison. Its old, which adds to its character but also has its flaws. The seats springs are a bit pointy, but besides that, its one of the cleanest theatres Ive been to, and Ive been to many. Its a classic theatre that brings back old, fun memories, and you cant deny the magic of the twinkle lights on the ceiling.

Review №79

The facilities were just downright gross. You know that stereotype you have of a theater in disrepair where your feet stick to the floor and theres a funny smell and so on? Thats the Barrymore Theatre. On the positive side, this total lack of self-investment leads to reasonable ticket prices. Also, the sound quality is decent.Go here because:... The shows are pretty cool... The tickets & sound quality are relatively reasonableDont go here because:... It is gross

The Barrymore is a quirky, vintage theater in the heart of Madison.Theres not a bad seat in the house and the smaller size of the theater makes whatever you see more intimate. You can bring drinks in, but the line to get drinks is atrocious. Review №84

Beautiful theatre with interesting decorations and a nicely intimate setting. A friend and I went to see one of our favorite bands perform and had a wonderful time! The staff we interacted with were both helpful and friendly, and the theatre itself was clean and comfortable.I did not try any concessions; however, I did notice that the line never seemed to get too long as the staff behind the counter kept everything moving smoothly. There is a drinking fountain on the left right before you reach the aisle entrances. The venue provides plastic cups (just sitting on the fountain) so that patrons can grab a cup of water to have during the show (the seats also have convenient cupholders!). This seems like a very little thing, but it is honestly the reason Im giving five stars. Its a small gesture, but it makes a huge difference to have access to water during the show (without paying the usual ridiculous rates for bottled water). Two suggestions for anyone visiting: (1) if you sit on the main level (there is a balcony), expect to stand for a big chunk of the performance if you want to see the stage, and (2) bring ear protection if your ears are sensitive, as it is a very loud venue.

We saw a Dispatch acoustic show 12/10/17 and the venue was fantastic. Its a small intimate theater that provided a great experience for this concert. I read several reviews with complaints about sticky floors and gross bathrooms but I can confirm that neither of these things were issues when we were here. Floors werent sticky and bathrooms were very clean. Outside drinks for this performance were not allowed but they offered a fantastic selection of drinks including many local brews. The Barrymore is a fantastic little theater and I would definitely attend a future concert at this location!

The Barrymore theater in Madison is iconic, historic even. However, its aged though and its not been kept up in the ways that would support top headliners. The seating in the theater is old, you can feel the framework and you sink in the middle. The carpets are bad the walls are tired and the handicap bathroom that is on the main floor doesnt engage to lock properly. Other bathrooms are in the basement, full stairs, no elevator, 3-4 stalls in the ladies. We attended for the 47th Annual Juggling Extravaganza which was a really fun show! We were thoroughly entertained!Over all this theater is now more of a community event gathering venue.Dress casual and fit in!
