I have seen a few shows at this theater. It a kind of hidden off the square in downtown Madison. But it is worth a visit. It is a small, quaint, and intamate theater. The staff is very help and friendly. The theater does have a bar that serves alchohol and snacks. All types of shows and plays perform here. Sound, lighting and acoustics are very good. Not a bad seat in the house. Great sight lines. There is a city parking located about 2 blocks away for your parking needs. If you have not seen a show here you really should. You will have a good time and enjoy yourself.

The ballet we saw here was good, but the theater itself was ok. There seemed to be a lack of ventilation so the air was close and heavy.

Madison is blessed with this amateur theater venue. It is in good condition and provides a great space for small intimate plays.

I am not impressed. I received an email the several hours before the performance, saying: it was open seating, I should come early, and the box office opened at 1 pm. It did NOT say that seating would not begin until 1:30 - in reality it did not begin seating until 1:45, for a 2 pm performance. There was a single person running the concession stand and the bar. The first customer tried to pay by credit card, but when that customer discovered that the credit card machine hadnt been set up yet and apparentlyit would take several minutes to do so, that customer thoughtfully said, several times, that she could pay in cash. Instead, the concessionaire continued to set up the credit card machine, despite a number of other customers waiting to buy food and/or drinks. Why wasnt the credit card machine set up in advance?I shant return to this venue again.

I love this theater. I have seen 2 queer shorts plays here. And both were amazing. They were funny and really well done. I really enjoyed coming here with my friends this evening. We saw Unity and it was amazing. Cant wait to come back and see more shows in the future. They pour their heart and soul into their work!

I came here for a work event and it was really nice. It has a little bit of an old timey feel which I liked. The acoustics were really good, we probably didnt even need a microphone. Id like to come back for an actual show.

We traveled up to Madison to see the Madison Shakespeare Company (one of five companies that is housed here) do Henry IV, Part 2. The theatre is in a good location–close to the capitol building and within a short walk from a $3 parking garage. The ticket price, $19 each, matched the quality of the show. In other words, I think we got our moneys worth.

I wonderful old theater in downtown Madison. It has been renovated to include two performance spaces: a bigger main stage and a black box theater. Local community theater groups utilize the space to put on familiar and original works. The quality of the productions range wildly but at its heart community theater is about helping everyone experience the Arts and in that capacity the Bartell always exceeds expectations.

This was great. I went to see a public brush up rehearsal of After the Revolution. The staff were friendly and inviting, the theatre is cozy and intimate, and the performance and subject were exactly what I expected. Will go again.

Great old theater. The building is well maintained and has good AC for the summer. The seating is nice, (but the legroom left my 65 frame pretty sore). A great place downtown for local theater, been around for decades. Definitely worth checking out a show if you are in the area, they typically (though not always) will have seats available for walk-ins.

Small theater seating a max of about 75-100 people. The lighting and sound systems seem top notch for such an intimate performance setting. There is a separate restroom for the ladies and a second multiple use toilet for all others. The theater offers refreshments. Off street parking is nearby.

Excellent production of Rock of Ages. Very much enjoyed hearing all of the 80s songs. Fairly small theater, so there really arent any bad seats. And the actors will come right out into the audience. The theater is aging, but it didnt detract at all from the performance.

The bartell is in a great location right off the capital square. Its an inviting, small, and no frills sort of theater. We saw the acrocats here, and it felt like the perfect place for that sort of event. Be aware the chairs are pretty small.
