Awesome local place to hike in Los Angeles, one of the very few places left that isnt overrun by Suburban life. The weather was beautiful, the hike is somewhat difficult and definitely if hiking to Griffith Park Observatory make sure to bring water. Beautiful views from the top of the Griffith Park Observatory, can see the whole city and a great view of the Hollywood sign

The Griffith Park is a hiking area on Mount Hollywood where the Griffith Observatory and Hollywood Sign sits. Many visitors and locals go for hike there and stay till evening to watch the LA city lights as the sun sets. Very nice view from here. Also this is where you get real close to the Hollywood sign. This spot is one of the great trails in LA. Has easy walking path that takes you along the best views of the Pacific ocean and the golden gate bridge on the San Francisco side of the bay. Afternoons can have fog so the view may not be 100% clear but super gorgeous. But if you have a clear day....just amazing. Theres also a convenient parking lot. A pathway also leads down to a cool cave where you can hear the waves crashing. Highly recommend going here.

This park has everything! Lots of hiking trails and picnic spots, equestrian trails (horses can be rented nearby), a train, pony rides for the kids, a merry-go-round, and of course the Griffith Park Observatory (where “Rebel Without a Cause” with James Dean was filmed). Walt Disney used to bring his daughters here, and while sitting on a park bench near the Merry-go round, he thought up Disneyland! (The park bench is in Disneyland by the Abraham Lincoln exhibit). I love to drive through the park on a weekend and watch hundreds of people enjoying the park. What a great place to enjoy a beautiful day. There’s even a golf course. Something for everyone! YAY! The hiking trails are open, but you must wear a mask . The observatory is closed.

Great views of it from the Griffith Observatory (which was closed that day). Griffith Park is amazing and so large-I’m sure we only saw a small part of it yet we parked, walked quite a ways and all the way up to the observatory. Popular recreational area with a bunch of interconnecting hiking trails. Some of the trails are out-and-back, but you have the option of taking a quick hike or extending your trail to take up a full day. The trails are exposed so bring lots of water and wear sunscreen. The trails are popular, particularly on weekends, so try getting there earlier. There are a few picnic tables/benches scattered around. No bathrooms unless you head over to the Observatory. Dogs are allowed on leashes. There are parking lots by the Greek Theater (free) as well as street parking, or you can park up by the Observatory ($15 per hour). There’s a separate lane for ride share so you could get dropped off in front of the Observatory (currently closed during covid). You could chill at one of the green spaces and have a picnic (Jitlada is only a 1.5 mi/10 min drive away!) or just enjoy some urban nature. You can see the hollywood sign or take in views of Downtown or Burbank (assuming there’s no smog or wildfire smoke). Griffith Park is LA’s answer to Central Park, and good for both locals and tourists alike.

Beautiful place to visit. The trails can be dangerous due to poor lighting. The maps have been defaced with graffiti, making the map not legible. And you can easily get lost. They provide so many choices, from a tennis racket to playground etc. They use recycled water as noted on signs. Youll see yellow jacket traps in place. You might encounter coyotes as we did. They are harmless and will run away, if not antagonized or threatened. Only one security guard vehicle was observed down the hill. Parking lot appears to popular as a hook up spot. The abandoned zoo was an amazing view of abandoned cages. The metal rusting due to the weather. The history behind this zoo is sad and the cages are often very small to cage larger animals. They also speculate , that the zoo is haunted. As I didnt see any ghost, I did hear lots of noises in the bushes and often behind me. There is some areas that will give you a Eerie feeling and the climate will change dramatically in seconds.

Been going here for over 30 years. It is still a nice place to walk. At night the stars come alive and the beauty is not only can you look up and see them the observatory allows us to get up close and personal with many stars that a naked eye can see.. If you have not gone to a show at the observatory... Do yourself a huge favor and get to one.

Excellent views of the city and all sorts of interesting science exhibits inside. Definitely worth the trip, but parking is a nightmare!! Park at the Greek Theater at the bottom of the hill. It’s free & easy and the shuttle (.50 cents) picks you up right there and drops you off at the top. (I think the lot closes at noon on concert days so you have to be there before that.) The .8 mile walk up from there would also probably be quicker than trying to find a $10/ hr spot along the hill on the road on the way up.

The scenery speaks for itself! Good work out and always pretty clean. Many trails going to and from! Love my legs being worked out here!

Incredible 360 views of LA and Hollywood sign. I didn’t go inside as it wasn’t open yet but enjoyed the grounds. Lots of hikes all around too or you can drive up to the top.
