Much nicer than the main reservoir and quiet trails. South Platte river runs through this wildlife refuge. Hiking, fishing, birding, picnicking and tubing are all summertime favorites at this location

Since dogs are not allowed in Waterton Canyon, if you are already there is a nice place with easy hiking that will take you into Chatfield Lake.

Great spot for walking, running, cycling or horseback riding along multiple trails. Have noticed several people fishing in both the ponds and river. Weekends usually have at least a couple of groups enjoying the river, particularly during the warmer months. Some trails lead into Chatfield. Parking is plentiful.

Went to the HOOTenanny & had a great time. Live owl presentations with owls that were rescued but cant be released for health reasons. Lots of crafts for the kids. Food trucks, bluegrass band and the beautiful Colorado open space. Highly recommend you check their website for more events.

Brilliant. Went to a concert fund raiser here and with thunder and lightning they quickly moved it indoors. Later on when the rain stopped the band moved us down to the ampitheare for an acoustic set. Staff and volunteers all brilliant. Food delicious. Venue great.

We met up with a park ranger as the starting point for a tour of the area. Beautiful wetlands area with several small fishing lakes. The S. Plate runs right through it . We have never seen this aspect of the park. Very quiet & secluded.

This is a beautiful and well kept site.We saw a guest presentation here by HawkQuest at the outdoor auditorium at the Waterton road location for the Audubon society. The outdoor space was gorgeous. It was close to the parking lots, just a short walk that would accommodate something on wheels, like a stroller or a wagon. We brought a picnic dinner that night. There are bathrooms close by as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful with upcoming events.I especially liked how many of the plants and flowers were labelled! There are a lot of trails with tons of wildlife around, we want to go back for hikes. They said dogs are not allowed at this location since it is a wildlife preserver, however they are allowed on leash inside Chatfield park, where there is another location. We had such a good time that I will be checking out more events with the Audubon society.

Well...couple signs stating reclamation but ACTUAL evidence shows that trails simply have staged signs further cutting Waterton Canyon and areas off. These are areas I visited regularly over the last 20 yrs.
