A very unique and super cool museum of the history of Roller Skating. I was trying to figure out what the previous reviews meant by “don’t forget your quarters,” but after visiting I would say bring a quarter or two!

If you ever skated as a kid, youll enjoy the museum. Who knew the first skates were inline? Apollo Ono and Tara Lipinski started on roller skates. Rhonda Cann, the director, is a wealth of additional information. And its free with free parking. Well worth the time!

For those who read my reviews you know that I have a passion to locate and report on odd little museums. Well this sure qualifies its not large but it is comprehensive about the history of skates and skating. Imagine being able two sea skates from 1814. Well I didnt even know they were skating in 1814 and today thats over 200 years old. wow! now the rest of the museum has various skates, over time, motorized skates, four wheel skates, inline skates, and skates that defy description as people just wanted to have a good time and go skating. I would think you needed skating because not everybody had ice year-round to do ice skating. But what do I know! Anyway, there skate competitions around the country, there were the days of the roller rinks, and all the wonderful things of the past, there were these designs that increase safety and speed theres just a whole lot to see here, if you stop and read, and a great calliope box that you need quarters for. So bring some quarters and come and enjoy the skating Museum. I thought it was wonderful.

A long time ago my friend and I roller skating accross NYC, her using roller skates and me using roller blades, Everytime I go to the museum it reminds me of more innocent days and our friendship. She passed on, so this is all i have left and the memories

Very neat collection of roller skating memorabilia and equipment. However, the museum is located, quite strangely, in the rear of an office building. We wanted to buy something from the gift shop but there was hardly a soul in the whole building, and we had to grab someone from the cubicles to complete the transaction. Overall, just a kinda weird museum experience.

We really liked the museum itself, however no one to greet or ask questions or be able to buy from gift shop. We were here from CA and now wont get to come back again.

I grew up Roller Skating. To go to this museum was a throw back to a nostalgic time before video games and electronics. I how they get more funding and stay around for a long time to come.

If you go, you will learn a lot about the history of roller skates and skating. I was in the Roller Derby in 1960s and have donated my skates to the museum. I think it is great to have one place dedictated to roller skating of all kinds,Juanell (Willie Wallace) Largent
