This is one of the best automotive museums in the U.S. Two floors of racing history with a third of memorabilia. Incredible antique, racing, custom, and land speed vehicles. This facility provides guided tours by appointment or do a self tour. Restrooms are like a visit to a country club. Interesting other collections in-house as well. If you found this useful please give a thumbs-up. Thanks!

These two Gentlemen gave us very nice tour. Only there for a few hours and it wasnt enough time. Racing history ,rare and important vehicles and auto related collections are packed into this large museum. The most amazing thing to me were the examples of ingenuity in vehicle and engine designs. If you like cars, racing, history or engineering go!

An absolutely stunning collection! Three floors of absolute heaven if you are a gear-head. Hundreds of cars, engines, pedal cars, toys, and other speed-related stuff. I spent three hours in there and I still didnt see it all. Its the kind of place where every time you visit, you will see something you hadnt seen before. Not only is there a lot of stuff to look at, but they constantly move things in and out to keep it fresh. Clean, well-maintained, excellent signage, and spot-on presentation of the collection. Not too many car museums are better than this one. A must visit spot for anyone into the subject!

Dont get me wrong I really enjoyed looking at everything in here but it was disappointing that they charged $15 per person and shut the lights off immediately at closing time. We drove 2 hours to see it. So take it from me if you want to enjoy it more be ready to pay and give yourself plenty of time. And no guide for the $15 on weekdays. Might be more of a 5 star experience if the guide was there and they let you know how much time you have or maybe schedule it for people. Idk. It is really impressive what this company does, did and will do. I will probably go back!!! Thanks.

Absolutely amazing and extensive collection of race cars, racing memorabilia and auto history. So cool. Ive been to a handful of museams of similar style and nothing compares to this place. I only wish they had concessions and a gift store. Bring comfortable shoes and make sure you have plenty of time to burn. We took about 3 hours to wander through all 3 floors and we kept up a reasonable pace I think!

This is one of the most expensive and most Awesome collections of cars Ive ever seen. This collection goes from the first cars ever built to show cars, classics, and of course all different types of race cars. They are well kept up and taken care of for all to enjoy. 3 floors of lots to see. There are lots of pedal cars and models on display that little kids just love. We also sell all kinds of different pedal cars you can buy for your kids. They even have stuff you wouldnt expect, like as you walk up the stairs youll see hanging on the wall a huge collection of antique lunch boxes. Every character from your childhood. All I know is not only is the Museum Awesome, but the owners actually care about all their employees and customers. So whether you want to browse the cars, start a restoration project car of your own, build a race car and do some timed runs, or just enjoy some good food and good people Speedway Motors and the Museum of American Speed is where its at!

Wow! This far exceeded expectations! So many cool and historic cars, engines, and stories to go with them!As just one example, heres the first car to use a seat belt in the Indianapolis 500. It was in 1941, and it wasnt there for safety. The track was so rough, the driver was bouncing and couldnt keep his foot on the gas. He borrowed a seat belt from an airplane so he could keep his foot in it!

We had a group tour the Museum of American Speed in Lincoln NE. on Sept. 12, 2019. Duane Starr was our tour guide, he was the most knowledgeable guide I have ever encountered in my 7 decades. Duane knew every detail on every display.. A very informative day and the collection is one of the best if not The Best in the World. We all thought it was a great way to spend a day and looking forward to going again real soon Way too much to see in a day, even two days would not be enough, so much to see and the history of racing is right in front of you from day one to the present day. !!!! The extra collection of pedal cars, bikes, and every thing else is amazing. Thanks So Much !!!! Rodney Turner

This hidden gem, located in the industrial area of Lincoln, Nebraska is by far one of the most impressive automotive museums Ive ever seen. Collected over a lifetime by Speedy Bill Smith and his wife Joyce, if it was a speedster or made a vehicle go faster you will likely find it here. From Indy 500 Race Cars, Dragsters, and Nascars to Pedal Cars, Hot Rods, and an Impressive selection of Rare Model Ts you will need several hours to see all three floors. Among the surprises I found was a 1950s Kids Car Wash Kit complete with Simoniz products in metal cans, a collection of Tether Cars - had no idea these existed, and some very detailed Auto-themed dioramas. The lunch box collection covered three walls in the stairwell, autographed guitars covered the ceiling of a room that had auto-themed record albums all around the walls. If you are in the area, put this museum on your must-see list. It truly has something for the entire family.

I did only a couple of things while in Lincoln, Nebraska and the visit to the American Speed Museum was far and away the most exciting. Im not a gearhead and have not watched Formula 1, Le Mans, or any of the other great races (although I do like NASCAR). There are many race cars on the first level (its a 3-story building) but I liked the quirky Studebaker Streamliner, the stately Bucciali, The Duesenberg, the Tucker, and a funky hearse the best. For me though, the real treasures were upstairs: a display of hundreds of hood ornaments from famous and not-so-famous car makers: Pierce-Arrow, Bentley, RR, Pontiac, and others. Some were elegant and stylish while others were really pedestrian and odd. My thanks to Jeff, the docent who took time to show me around the museum, answer questions, and describe many of the cars and paraphernalia. Additionally, he had been a friend and admirer of Bill and Joyce Smith, the founders of the museum, and Jeff told a few anecdotes regarding their family. Admission was $5; no food or beverages allowed; there was a coat rack for jackets & coats; the restrooms were clean and nice; and there is a small gift shop.

Well take all of these words and you have only 1% of what you will see!!! This museum rocks! It has so many cars, engines, models, part, toys ... you can spend here days (!!) not hours. There is so much to read, admire and discover that time flies by. There are three floors with tons of models in extraordinary shape. If you have fuel running through your veins you will cry when you see this place. I guess that it is one of the biggest car collections in the US. So many beautiful cars - simple incredible. The staff is very nice and friendly too, but be aware: They have much to tell. So if you ask a simple question you get the history of the car - which is simply fantastic! The Museum of American speed is quite a conglomeration of some small medium and large collections of various things. Yes there is a bunch of Indy and open-wheel race cars that are displayed wonderfully and laid out in a very spacious Museum it must be several hundred thousand square feet. Then theres a nice collection of model T era stuff including the five millionth Model T ever built. The museum is built with lots of love and includes collections of childrens push carts I should say pedal carts and they are an overwhelming collection. In the stairwell they had a collection of over 600 lunch boxes. What that has to do with speed Ill never know. They had a wonderful collection of hood ornaments it was impressive. They had an unbelievable collection intake manifold. Never have I seen so many manifolds wall mounted on the wall several hundred in a minimum. Then they say they have a Bonneville and a drag racing section, but with only three or four Dragsters and four or five streamliners I think its just a small grouping. Lets see and then there were the midget racers they had an interesting collection of midgets and that was nice. There was another room that had soap box derby cars and a short video of the finals in the 1936 I believe World Championships. Im sure Ive left off many things as this place is overwhelmingly huge, and I had to stop I couldnt take any more Museum that day after a couple hours of walking around being incredibly overwhelmed. I think its a must-see museum for any enthusiast theyll be something for everybody and be prepared have lunch first and then go for it
