Abstract? And cultural quilts on display. Not many traditional midwest hand stitched quilts but I guess you can see those anywhere. Quiet place with many Russian myth and culture quilts.

Beautiful museum! Made it there 20 min to close and was able to see almost everything but in a rather rushed pace. I would recommend more like an hour to see it nicely. Staff was so nice too. I also recommend getting a Groupon we saved alot of money and I think its available all the time.

We always drop by IQM when we are in Lincoln since my wife is an avid quilter and our daughter completed her PhD there in 2015. IQM always brings a unique perspective to a somewhat esoteric area that is truly a blend of art, science, and craftsmanship. I know of no other comparable institution.

My wife is the quilting junkie: I just provide moral support (and woodworking support as needed). But I very much enjoyed this museum. We both thought it was an outstanding representation of a wide variety of quilts from around the world. The facility is beautiful and spacious and very elderly and handicapped friendly. Parking is on location, free, and spacious. The arrangement of quilts by exhibit rooms allows the visitor to digest the intricate complexities of quilting by global region. I particularly enjoyed the colorful quilts from India: they are breathtaking. This is a must see even if quilting is really not your thing. You are sure to be impressed.

I expected the museum to be larger, but I think its actually the perfect size to be able to enjoy without getting overwhelmed. I was grateful for the wheelchairs provided, which made it much easier for the whole family to enjoy. My only critique is I wish they had evening hours.

If you like quilts, this is a definite place to stop in. Admission is free on the first Friday of every month. It starts at 4 PM and lasts until 7 PM. One of the current exhibits they are featuring are “cheddar” quilts from the late 1800s to the early 1920s. There was quite an array of quilts to see from this time period. Another exhibit featured African quilts. A smaller exhibit featured log cabin quilts. All the exhibits had an introductory plaque explaining the origination, history and purposes of the type of quilt shown. Additional plaques are beside each quilt explaining in further detail about them with additional historical facts such as the years (or possible years) and the quilter’s name if it was known.

Three floors of amazing quilts. We were surprised at how large the quilt house actually was. It has rotating exhibits. It had a restoration room on the main floor and a really cool exhibit of contemporary quilts in the second floor. The volunteers and employers were helpful and willing to talk to us about the exhibits. There were even friendly reminders to not touch the quilts or use flash photography. There is an entry fee but it is worth the price to leave ok at these pieces of art.

This is a museum for textile art and the art department. The small wall hangings use quilting methods, but are pieces of art rather than usable quilts. The International Quilts from Central Asia were very interesting. If you want to see traditional quilts, you would be better off at the museum in Paducah, KY. There is an admission charge. I would recommend going here only if you are an artist or a quilter with a broad appreciation for the art.

Maybe they have some cool displays sometimes but I can tell you I would be embarrassed to charge anything to see the few quilts they had...every county fair I’ve ever been to had a thousand times better displays than this place...don’t waste your money or time...we walked through in about 10 mins...what a joke!

I was totally blown away by this museum. State of the art, eco-friendly building, beautiful pieces so well displayed, knowledgeable staff, fun pieces in the store. Get there in time for the tour. Its worth the time. Id tell you about the exhibits, but they rotate them frequently. This is to save the quilts from the light and the weight of hanging. The gift shop is a destination in itself! Visitors to any museum must know that a rather small percentage of the museums art will be on display at any given time. Quilts are often quite large works of art, so the number on display will be limited. This might be a bit disappointing for travellers, so watch carefully for an exhibit you truly want to see. If you live nearby, visit often! Im new to Lincoln and just made my first visit because I saw that there were quilts from Asia. The exhibit was fantastic, including everything from Chinese baby bibs to Uzbek camel garb. The wedding curtains and other quilted blankets and clothing were exquisite. I was there almost three hours. Fantabulous!

I hope you are not as disappointed as I was. After reading on the website that it is the largest collection of quilts in the world, containing over 3,500 quilts, we eagerly got a carload of ladies and traveled 4 hours to see it. How incredibly disappointing that they only have about 40 quilts on display at one time to look at! The rest of the collection is in storage! They dont say this on the website. Although the few quilts we did see were wonderful, I would NOT have driven 4 hours, taken a whole day out, and paid the entrance fee just to see a small collection of quilts. I hope this review prevents that from happening to someone else.

Lo
Review №75

I cant contact the museum direct from the website. I cant get to register myself to save collection items I am interested in. The site looks great, but as an Australian wanting to note items of interest and to fine out how to overcome the IT obstacles - theres nowhere to go. I search for a contact point for help and I cant get it. I would love to see these quilts in person but if I cant do that on line and feel that my interest is not worthwhile, I wont be diverting my travel plans to do that. What a fabulous collection and the online cataloguing is great. But I am very disappointed not to have full access and to have no obvious means of overcoming that.
