It is serving as a great landmark of the town. Since, there are not many high rises in Lincoln you can navigate to any part of the town using this tower. There is plenty of free street parking on the other side, away from the town.

The art is amazing, and I was really impressed with what they did with it. It’s not like normal capitols, most capitols are dome shaped but this goes strait up. I also like the inside. The art and engravings were just amazing. Also the tours were great. The tour guide talked about all the designs and art and gave a back story to all of it. Overall I had a good experience

It was a random trip. We traveled to Lincoln to buy a car. Walked the streets that are lined in a perfect grid. While the tall building is a marvel, the treasure lies inside, dim light, spectacular tall beams, peerless marble work, wall murals, prefect chandeliers, the state house chambers, it has an imposing peaceful and quiet gravitas. The interplay of architecture, light and muted displays create a harmonious experience. The building is the museum. A must see.

Simple, stable, durable and beatiful.Everything is for free.Well done, Nebraska....

Another capitol building, another stamp! We made a stop here during our return road trip.We made our way up to the observation floor and there were a couple of doors leading outside that were open (inspections were being done and some construction/repairs so some areas were inaccessible). There are some nice views and so far this is the only state capitol building we visited that allowed visitors to step outside (North Dakota use to but some unruly teens caused that practice to end). This building had a chain link fence type of cover over the gaps on the outside which is probably why they could allow folks to go out and enjoy the view. The first floor allows you to make a bit of a circuit (because of the construction we couldnt actually do a full circuit so back tracked just a bit). Theres plenty to see, even a bashful bust that hides behind a newspaper! He does have a face, I just had never seen a bust holding a paper so just had to take a photo (in a few years kids probably will need to ask what hes holding in his hands).

If youre anywhere near Lincoln, Nebraska, go see this stunning mash-up of architectural references that functions as a coherent whole. An explosion of visual ideas, an examplary case of what highly skilled craftspeople, designers, artists, and a philosopher can do together, a rich allegorical text, and a tribute to good government.

Weve been to 22 Capital Buildings; to include the Nations Capital Building in DC. We experienced each States Capital Building Guided Tour; including Washington, DC Capital Building. NEBRASKAS Capital Building is not the most elegant, expensive, or exciting...but I like it the most, so far, of the 22 Capital Buildings I have seen. Its simple, sturdy, and straight forward. Do misunderstand, it references the Native Indians, State Founding Members, State Heros, Developers, Engineers, etc... This Capital Building is set up for the Leaders to do the work for the people of this State. No post 9-11 histeria, No congestion in or around the Building... THEY HAVE A ONE BODY, UNICAMERAL, LEGISLATION. Talk about For the People - So far, Nebraska is MY favorite. We plan to see all FIFTY in the next 12 Months

As someone who works in state government and has a Masters in government, the experience was personally and professionally satisfying. The grounds were a little drab in the winter cold, but the building itself is pretty magnificent. We went in on a Saturday afternoon, and no one was around. The inside is spectacular, like the inside of an old Roman church. It reminded me of grand Armenian churches Ive visited in the countrysides outside of Yerevan, with the stone work and art work. It offered a unique opportunity to explore, taking the antique elevators up the tower, going through side hallways and getting views from various angles.

I have seen a few state capitols in the past few years, so I decided to stop by the Nebraska state capitol on my way through Lincoln. I was intrigued on sight as I was driving up to it because it defied the norm of most other capitols I have seen (elongated dome rising up from the building versus the norm squat, round domes) so I figured I should go inside and take a look. I enjoyed the architecture on the inside - the main floor is dimly lit and cool, kinda inviting if youre walking in from a hot day. Several murals on the walls, the marble columns, gorgeous mosaics on the floors, were all very beautiful. Most of the hallways on the main floor boasted busts of famous Nebraskans. Some of the hallways had pretty benches for lounging.

At 400 feet, it is the second tallest of its 50 peers after Louisiana at 450 feet. The tower is completely functional with 15 stories that contain various state offices. There is also an observation level on the 14th floor which I would love to have visited (for my Getting High album) but was closed today.Other facts... when it was built, it was the tallest building in Nebraska. It is now third after two buildings in Omaha. The man on top of the tower is The Sower, he is casting the seeds of life to the winds. Construction of the Lincoln tower began in 1922 and completed in 1932

Our tour was very informative. The tour guide was impressively knowledgeable about the buildings history. The design of said building has many intracacies which would be missed by the casual observer without a tour guide to alert you to them all. Tours are once an hour and you have the option of going to the top and looking out on the entire city of Lincoln. Quite interesting, we enjoyed it very much.

Nebraskas State Capitol is very well kept. There are tours with very knowable guides. The artwork on the walls are full of history about the plains. Wonderful history lesson for children. Visit to the top gives you a panoramic view of Lincoln. You get to visit the legislative chamber and the Nebraska supreme courtroom. You learn secrets. The tours are often, not a long waiting time. Many local artists along with artist from other places. There is a gift shop and a café (open mon-fri). We went on Saturday and they were giving tours that day too. A very beautiful building.

VERY tall building that you can see from most anywhere in Lincoln. Turns out that theres a city ordinance that prevents any other building from being higher or, from obstructing people’s views of the capitol. Gorgeous interior with murals and floors, marbles and paintings…all done with Nebraska life in mind. One of the best tours we’ve had in a capitol building. The man giving it was enthusiastic (like it was still his first time giving it) and informative while answering all our questions. The view from the top is not that great because there’s just not a lot to see on the horizon in Lincoln…lots of trees only.

If you ever get the chance to visit, I highly recommend it. The tallest building in Lincoln (by law), the observation desk provides a wonderful view of the surrounding area. Its gorgeous inside. The first two buildings they built didnt last, so for this one they got limestone from Indiana, marble from Italy, designs from an architect in New York and artisans from New York as well. Its home to the only state government that is run on a non bipartisan system. They do not have a house and a senate. Their representatives work 60 days one year and 90 days the next and are paid $1200 per year, with an 8 year term limit. We need to be paying attention here...

Ten years in the making (1922-1932), this huge limestone building, nicknamed “Tower on the Plains” for its one huge, 400-foot tower, which can be seen for 30 miles on clear days. The building also includes over 20+ murals, a Lincoln Monument, and so much ornate detail. When you are in Lincoln, its certainly worth the visit for so many reasons. Even the bathrooms seem like theyre from the 30s.While the ventilation system that was installed 50 years ago was ground-breaking in its time, a project has started to begin replacing it with a 100+ million dollar version to keep everyone at the proper temperature.Enjoy your visit.

With binoculars, one can see the statue is holding a singer sewing machine, such cool history way up there, gives me goose bumps. My wife thinks the architecture of the capital is extremely chauvinistic. When we drive by she always closes one eye while looking at the tower and then makes obscene hand movements and shouts out Look, Im polishing the dome! I always tell her to grow up, that she isnt funny, but she just keeps it up. Shes so juvenile sometimes.

A very beautiful and historical building. We were walking around and admired wall and ceiling. Awesome. Also many informations and pictures of foreign administrations hang on the wall. You can spend easily 3 hours inside the building. Also the floors are very nice (mosaic). But the best came at the end: 14th floor and a fantastic view to all sides. Wonderful! Only sad part the metal fence (which is there for security reasons) has very small openings; so if you want to take decent pictures and are not using a smartphone it will be tough (but not impossible). Best thing: You can park for free on any side of the building for max. 2 hours.
