Nice collection of thought provoking art. Free parking. Not that many paintings, and quite a few were incredibly simple, bland, boring. I was more impressed by the building than the art, tbh.

Excellent Museum. Well curated and focused collection. Ken was so welcoming and just a wonderful docent who discussed the exhibits with us extensively. The museum building itself is really neat architecturally. We really enjoyed our time there. The other security guy was a little rude and overbearing...Couldnt give me even 30 seconds to look at a painting because they had just closed (Not exaggerating I promise). Please let him know that when people take the time in their travels to come to your museum from out of town and donate admission...I think its ok to behave friendly and give them an extra 60 seconds beyond closing time. In fact everything and everyone else was great so maybe that guy just needs a little softening up.

Went to a First Friday event at the Sheldon Museum. The building is beautiful & dont forget to take a walk around the outside to see some of the sculptures. The staff were enthusiastic plus they had a nice little buffet of snacks & drinks. Also liked how they had activities for children. Its a quick trip through this museum but fun for a family as well as a solo visit if youre in downtown Lincoln or on campus. Also liked the different types of art work that were displayed. The permanent as well as the feature exhibit were definitely different.

Parking during the week can be a hassle if you are planning to visit the Sheldon. The good thing is admission is FREE! The two story space with 3 distinct spaces plus gift shop is a nice way to spend an hour. The building itself is also quite lovely with soaring atrium, stone, and glass. The permanent collection is very good and the special exhibitions interesting.

Lee Young Jun PEN ARTPen Art(General Remarks)Infinity of lines and dots have symbolism.  Such symbolism is ever changing according to the spirit’s depth.  All works are kaleidoscopic; they are usually composed of indescribable expressions.  Therefore, art’s depth also can be said to be unlimited.  Is pen art’s depth also infinite?  In other words, do the lines and dots flowing from the nib of a pen have an artistic qualification?  In this respect, it is worth thinking deeply.  Pen art begins from an essence of nature’s fundamental values.  From the standpoint of value, or color, a harmony of black and white is essential in nature.  As it is impossible to see any color in darkness, distinguishing color is an essential role of light.  That is why the soul is drawn to light.  Whiteness, or light is a spiritual reflection of the soul while blackness, or darkness is a reality of life on earth.  As the color green is an essential color of vegetation, burnt charcoal is an earthy color that will stay near black.  Blackness is heterogeneous and may be hostile to life.  If blackness belongs to the essence of nature, it also may be said to represent the image of death.  A combination of black and white constitutes degrees of lightness and darkness.  When painting black on a white background, the soul is transported to the white background.  Whiteness comes to life when contrasted with black line and black space.  In this case, soul also may be expressed through the blackness.  Soul may be transported to the black or a combination of white and black, which shed a mysterious merit to the soul or spirit.  Pen arts starts and ends from an essence of nature’s fundamental contrasts.  The primary essence is infinite and eternal while the artistic harmony of black and white can take one’s breath away.  But, this is not possible until a metamorphosis has been realized over many years and spiritual transcendence has occurred.  The transfer of spirit  occurs when one’s life experiences are projected onto the white canvas in harmony with blackness.  That is the true ‘pen art.’             Artist Lee Young Jun

I love the museum. It is free to visit. They feature different exhibits so its always nice to see what they have new.

Review №27

I very much enjoyed my visit at the art gallery. It was one of the highlights of my stay in Lincoln Nebraska. There was one issue but Ill get to that in a moment.First I want to say that they have a great and diverse selection of art. Its very interesting, but not wannabe interesting like you see in so many art galleries- you know old TVs showing static and bloody skulls. No, this art is actually interesting. Also, they pander just enough to SJWs but not enough that they ruin the whole museum. The architecture of the building itself is a mid century modern dream! The bad- I understand that the gallery is on a University Campus but the children that attend this university can be quite obnoxious. As part of what appeared to be an art class they had to draw pictures of the art in the museum. I guess it does make sense to lie on the floor when you are drawing but I didnt enjoy having to step over corpses. At least they were relatively quiet when they occupied the galleries- sadly I cant say the same for their behavior in the lobby which is quite cavernous and echo-ey.I went to check out the FDR exhibit on freedoms but a group of 50 students completely took over the gallery.

The guard is a bit grouchy, but as long as you dont actually touch anything hes ok. He is a bit biased against small children and more likely to tell at them for being close to the art, so dont take your kids unless they are well behaved.
