For an entirely free exhibit it is fairly excellent. Some of the displays seem to change out from time to time based on what Ive seen in some of the photos, and of course some of the exhibits feature replicas however it still represents a very good idea of what the original one was like (actually I tend to think its best that museums dont place the original artifact on display) which is normally at a much larger museum. This museum can be walked through quickly though I advise taking in the detail for a decent 2 hours (I walked in forgetting the hour was moved ahead though still managed to compose decent photographs, which is what I intended to do.)

This is a really nice free museum. I loved the variety of exhibits. My favorite was the one on the development of our worlds landmasses. It has visual aids and artistic renditions of plants and animals as they were at different times in the worlds development. There were many beautiful Native American artifacts in their native america exhibit. Highly recommend.

I FINALLY got a chance to visit, and Im so glad I did! Such an awesome display of knowledge about the people whose spirit and presence still dwells in the the hills and valleys of East Tennessee. Thank goodness though, that this museum is here to remind those of us who cant see through the modern debris of Western civil-ization. I love this place!!!!

This was a wonderful learning opportunity for our kids. Lots of neat artifacts and exhibits. We were looking for something we could do on a budget and this was perfect as its free to view. They would appreciate donations however. There is a small gift shop as well and they had some really cool little things for sale that related to the countries in their exhibits. Our family really enjoyed our trip here.

My grandfather worked here in the 1970s, and I had the experience of being a kid in this museum. With time passed, it is still a classic, modern museum with relevant exhibits on civil rights, Egyptian and Roman culture, local geology and Native Americans.Museum guard and volunteer not altogether chatty but no big deal. Did I mention it is also free to the public?

Great museum full of real and imitation artifacts. The muesem has rich history on native Indians, Egyptians, and other areas and time periods. What prevented this rating from being 5 stars is that the museum itself is right in the heart of the UT campus and you have to get validated parking and find a parking spot. This can be a difficult task with a baby and small children.

A surprisingly good small museum located on the university campus with free admission. You need to get a temporary permit from the parking hut but when we were there they were free. Exhibits were surprisingly diverse covering everything from Egyptian history to the Civil War. Expect to spend about an hour to an hour and a half here.

I might be biased because my family and I have worked for this place for three generations but Frank H. McClung is a diamond in the rough, if youre in Knoxville and looking for a cultural experience you go to the Knoxville Museum of Art, get tickets for the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, and you go to the McClung. Their exhibits are well curated and interactive, the layout of the building is a bit dated and hard to work out but to me it just adds to its charm its really like exploring history youll think youve seen everything and then youll find a nook of Japanese Warring States armor, or an alcove of Native American artefacts. If you live in or near Knox and you havent been youre doing yourself a disservice and if youre planning on visiting dont leave this out of your itinerary.

Been here several times with my kids before UT games. They really enjoy it and it keeps them entertained during the wait before the games. I like to watch the Vol Walk, but its so early that the kids will lose interest before the game even starts. They have a nice collection of Native American objects, Lucy, the Australopithicus skeleton, and some nice civil war items from the Knoxville area among other things.

We love the McClung Museum! We live about 1.5 hours away, but we frequently make the trip to Knoxville to visit the McClung. Its not a big museum, but there is so much to see! And their special exhibits are well-curated and interesting. The staff is always friendly; I love how involved they are in the local community; and its free! Highly recommended, especially on a cold or rainy day when you need an indoor activity.

We love this museum! My husband and I go a few times a year. Its a fun trip for natural history and traveling exhibitions that begins before you go in the door with dinosaurs and rocks and other natural formations from as far back as 480 million years ago. Then you walk in the door and its a self led tour. There are maps to guide you. It takes us a couple hours and we love to browse slowly and really look at everything. There isnt really a kids section so idk if kids would enjoy it. We dont have any but I wouldnt take my small child there because of the delicate items in a museum and because I dont think theyd have fun. There is parking close to the building and I dont remember ever having to pay for parking. I would avoid this area on football game Saturdays at Neyland, traffic isnt worth it. Otherwise its a great place to visit and if you live in the area and never havd been how disappointing. You are missing out and should take a trip there

For a museum situated on a college campus, this museum has quite a bit of charm to it. There were several interesting exhibits when I visited and I quite enjoyed my time there. It does not take long to travel through the whole thing, but you are able to learn something new as you do which is nice. Also, a major bonus is the lovely gift shop they sport. Instead of the typical gaudy gifts, McClung has tasteful and well priced items for sale.
