We loved our anniversary dinner at Chaz while we were staying at The Raphael. Pros: delicious food and extremely nice help. We particularly loved the Almost Avocado Toast appetizer, dry aged steak, and key lime cheesecake. Its hard to choose cons but if we have to: pricey, smaller portions, and sitting behind the bar was noisy. All in all it was a good place to chill for a beautiful dinner out.

One of my preferred locations for quality american food. nice place to meet and catch up with family. service is consistently above par. the prices are good for what you get. this place has positive reviews for a reason.

Have reviewed before but with a new chef, deserves another. Some special touches from the past, equal service, and broader menu with some interesting new items. Worth a try! And always a nice room with music. Amazing food and service. We stay at the Raphael often, and many times we look for a place to eat on the plaza, but despite the many options, it is hard to beat dinner and breakfast at the Chaz.

Comfy, cozy place to enjoy a night out. Great service and food. Nice piano with a stand up bass playing tonight. Vocals were awesome. A nice spot for a few drinks and a meal.

I really liked their food. Everything was delicious and presented well. I usually get disappointed with chicken dishes as they are just plain not much flavored, but the Chicken Provencal was absolutely a great choice.

It was a great experience. I had the KC strip and it was one of the best restaurant steaks Ive had in a long time. My wife had the stuffed chicken and she said it was going to be hard to eat somewhere else again. We would highly recommend

The salad was small but had very good flavor. The best was the Hanger Steak Diane, perfectly cooked steak with a great sauce. The shrimp and grits were alright. They had plenty of other options that looked good, worth going back to try I think. 7/10 would recommend

My fiance and I went to Chaz to celebrate my birthday and it was so good we went back two weeks later. Everything about this place is exceptional.SERVICE: Each time or waiter was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Alive with personally and focused on making sure your dining experience is exceptional. Not only able to make recommendations but able to explain each dish, its origins, and suggest perfect pairings. The service alone is worth coming forFOOD: The food is exceptional! Make it a point to try the chefs mushrooms of the day you cannot go wrong. We have yet to order anything that was not prepared to perfection and the flavor profiles are remarkable. Skipping a dessert is a BIG mistake.DRINK: Home of one of my two most favored drinks in KC: The Hazy Haden. The glass comes out over a small burner to fill it with smoke and then you add Basil Hayden at your leisure. An experience and a delightATMOSPHERE: Very charming, quaint and romantic. Its easy to feel like the only people in a completely full restaurant.This place is a genuine 10/10.

The Garden Party was amazing and the food was sublime!

Visiting from Canada and enjoyed a nice thanksgiving meal here. We were a large party but our server was fantastic ! She was patient and frequently checked up on us. The set menu was nice but I kind of wish I would’ve ordered the salmon instead of the prime rib (the horse radish sour cream was way too strong and was not a nice compliment to the meat, a nice gravy would’ve been better). The truffle Mac and cheese was probably my fav part of the meal. I was looking forward to dessert but by the time it was time to eat it, I was already so stuffed !

If you can make it here...please do. You wont be disappointed.

Outdated, everything needs renovation, water glasses smelled like fish, silverware overused, food quality mediocre, sweets were too sweet, main dishes too salty. Called ahead to make special arrangements for my wife’s birthday, nothing done. There are much better places in this part of KC for special occasions.

This is part of the Raphael Hotel. We had breakfasts there three days and everything we ordered was excellent. Also had drinks while listening to entertainment and found the prices very reasonable. The dinner was also very well prepared. We talked with several locals who were celebrating special occasions.

The cool thing about this place is the warm and welcoming atmosphere, due in no small part to the fact that they have live music almost every night. The food is good in that Midwestern fancy steaks and seafood way -- nothing unexpected -- but, as I say, the place is worth it for being a great little cozy hideaway tucked inside an old, elegant hotel. And they get good local musicians!

The breakfast we ordered to our room was inedible. The pancakes were burnt, the bacon was burnt, the potato cake was bland. Deeply disappointing experience.

Service and atmosphere was 5 star. Wine, bread and pallet cleansing “appetizer” ....awesome!1 of 2 entrees were on point.Lobster dish was good, Chilean Sea Bass was mush. The texture of Sea Bass was poor, but had good flavor.Dessert was small, but amazing!Probably a good thing it was small.

Highly recommended. Chaz on the Plaza is a very nice place to hang out with friends. very cozy. Food is amazing & drinks are great. They no longer let you smoke at the dining patio, which is disappointing for the smokers.

Chaz on the Plaza is located in the Hotel Raphael and is an absolute must if visiting The Plaza in KC MO. Very nice relaxed dining without a dress code. A great menu through all three meal times. Food was delicious and served by friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. Directly attached to the restaurant is a bar-lounge combination offering a great happy hour and musical entertainment. Also valet parking is available making it very convenient to visit and enjoy without searching for a parking spot.

A wonderful place to relax enjoy some live music and visit with friends or your special someone. The staff was amazing, the bar tender was in a great mood and super busy. I will definitely be back! I really enjoy Chaz on the Plaza. The service and atmosphere is excellent! The food is well prepared and tastes like youd want more. I recommend it for many types of gatherings from business to social or even dining alone. Treat yourself or a group

Clubby feel, good menu selection

This place is great - our group stayed in the Raphael for a business trip and we were here every night for a drink. The bar is awesome and has lots of great cocktail selections. The last night we ate dinner here and it was delicious! They had a February plate special which was a nice option. I had the filet and it was cooked to absolute perfection. They also bring out fresh warm bread at the beginning of the meal. I am only knocking off one star as our waiter kind of abandoned us a bit/was not very attentive. I also ordered a dessert at the end and had double checked that there were no peanuts (I have a severe allergy), and the waiter joked that he “put extra peanuts on it.” While I can definitely appreciate a good joke, allergies are NOT a joking matter. Other than that incident I highly recommend this restaurant!

Went to Chaz for dinner on a Saturday night and it was amazing. The bar area was busy and they had live music and everyone was having a great time. They do a great job with the decor of the restaurant and it is very cozy inside. I had the crab Wellington and it was one of the best meals Ive ever had. Our server Cassandra was so nice and helpful as well as Michael Watts in getting us seated early. Everything here was outstanding and they offer complimentary valet parking right out front for those cold evenings. They have a huge wine list that you can look through on tablet and it gives lots of information about the wine.

Well-traveled, and always has a story to tell us.Last night we had the Chilean sea bass. That practically melted in my mouth, it was heaven on a plate.Today, we had just dessert, the crème brûlée and strawberry gelato. Both were phenomenal. Even went back to get a to-go order of the same desserts to take to our room for a late finale.Our server, Tiago, is the best. He is completely knowledgeable about the specials, each dish, and even used our phone to take a picture of us.I havent been to as many fine dining establishments as I would like, but this is by far in the top three.

My husband and I had never been before, so we did not realize it was inside the Raphael Hotel, but that was my mistake due to lack of preparation. We enjoyed our meal! Our service was great and overall a nice experience.First Course:{Shrimp Cocktail} - pretty straight-forward, clean shrimp w/ an extra spicy horseradish sauce. A little hot for my taste but my husband loved it.{Pork Ribollita Soup} - savory & flavorfulSecond Course:{Braised Pork Shank w/ Roasted Garlic Risotto} - our favorite, but we are huge risotto lovers!{6 oz. Grilled Bistro Filet w/ Potato & Herb Rosti, Caramelized Cauliflower w/ Gruyere & Hollandaise Sauce} - filet was a little undercooked; we ordered medium and it was most definitely medium-rare (still purple/bluish!). My husband like the potato & herb rosti, but I did not care for the texture.

Possibly one of Kansas city best hidden gems. Went on Saturday night and they happen to have live jazz band playing! (Might want to visit their site for band schedule) They also had great food, service and atmosphere was amazing. Will for sure return.

Ordered Chilean Seabass. Menu says it is pan roasted. If I knew I’d be getting a deep fried fish stick I would have ordered something different.Lobster bisque cold, delivered second time was like warm. Poor experience. Very Overpriced restaurant. Will DEFINITELY not go back.

Last night I made reservations online to eat here with my wife for a late Valentines Day dinner. They called back today and left a message saying they would not keep my reservation unless I called them back. I tried calling three times, but each time I was put on hold and hung up on after three minutes of sitting on hold. I give up. There are too many good restaurants in the area to work this hard to get a reservation. We will eat somewhere else.

Nice atmosphere. I met a friend here for brunch and immediately worried we wouldn’t fit in. She didn’t tell me it’s the kind of place that has a grand piano. The staff still smiles at our presence and money just the same which I appreciate; so long as I can afford to spend it, you should be willing to take it...On to the food. I loved it!! The brunch was phenomenal, fresh squeezed juice. I was comfortable trying things I hadn’t before. The jazz that played in the background only added to the ambiance. The restrooms were immaculate and they even provided mouthwash. I fell in love. Lol. Clean. Kind. Tasty. Hospitable. Perfect combination.

The food here is incredible! Best potato soup I have ever had! The Mac and cheese is worth every penny. Impeccable, top knock service. They even have love music on Fridays and Saturdays. The musicians I heard were extremely talented. Romantic atmosphere, great for a date.

I went there for breakfast with my family. All four of us ordered something different, and we were all delighted. The eggs benedict were good. My son loved the German apple pancakes, but beware... My 11 year old thought they were rich. Maybe better to split. The atmosphere was quiet and nice. Great for a breakfast at the plaza.

Went there last Sunday for Brunch. Had Brisket and Eggs.....So, So Good! The Brisket has a great flavor and sauce that sends it over the top. The plate is accompanied with a potato cake and baked tomato. They also serve great drinks.YUM!

Scrumptious! Very swank and proper restaurant with a great menu. Hard time figuring what to have because everything sounded so good! We went there for lunch and they did have a lunch menu. I had the lobster bisque (which was awesome!), the prime rib french dip (which was awesome!) with Chaz chips (which were - need I say it? - AWESOME!). My friend had one of the salads topped with grilled chicken and it was AWESOME! The service was perfection, as usual. This makes my fourth time here, all have been just as fabulous and you know Ill be back! (Ive seen too many Lego Movies... )

Did not give 5 stars because was noisy and very crowded. Food was just okay. Service is always good!

The food tasted great, and the band was entertaining. Then had stomach issues for a week and I have a iron stomach. I would try it again, but probably stay away from the seafood next time.

The food was wonderful. We had the 2 course lunch special for Restaurant Week. The tomato soup was smooth and flavorful. The hanger steak was so tender and served over mashed potatoes and a light gravy.The service was decent but nothing special. It took a while to be served, especially the drinks at the start.I would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a nice, upscale meal.

Completely wonderful experience. I highly recommend the Chilean Sea Bass, with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The service was impeccable. Ask for Tiago for your server. The restaurant manager, Michael, ensured the experience was beyond perfect.

I went with my mom for both dinner and the Jazz Brunch and we were totally blown away. The food was amazing for both meals (very decadent and rich) and or drinks were delicious as well. Both our servers (Cassandra was especially) were friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive to our needs. Music at both meals was very well performed and added such an amazing element to the atmosphere!! I cant wait to return to this wonderful wonderful establishment. Do yourself a favor and go, several times!

Visited Chaz last night for the first time and it was just OK. We ordered from the restaurant week menu. My husband ordered the “dirt” salad, and it was tasty, but a ridiculously tiny portion. I had the tomato bisque and it was very good. The shrimp and grits were average, as was the dessert. The service was good, if a bit over attentive. The decor is dated and the food does not live up to the price point. Will not go back.

Excellent food, good service. Beware that there isnt really an accessible entrance unless you go through the service door. Also, a pet peeve, why do people take small children to high end restaurants? They cant sit still and be quiet that long. No one else wants to hear your brats screaming, I can promise you that.

I went here for restaurant week , We called and asked them how late do they serve lunch . They said until 5 o’clock. I arrived at 3 PM. To find out they do not serve lunch that late. Nevertheless, the chef accommodated me and my friend and we enjoyed a delicious three-course meal. I definitely will go back again. I really enjoyed myself.

We made a reservation for the jazz brunch but when we got there we were told we needed a “music reservation” if we wanted to be seated near the musicians. So we were seated in the back by the kitchen where we couldn’t hear the music while there were still several open tables near the musicians. I had the WORST biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had - which were basically tiny pastries covered in some bland kind of “gravy.” The rest of my party ordered eggs Benedict and the eggs weren’t cooked properly - the yolks were firm while they were supposed to be soft. Food was overpriced. And when we left there was still open tables by the musicians... never coming here again.

The Chaz is a quaint gem hidden in the Raphael. There is free valet parking for restaurant guests too. Each meal has been very enjoyable and the atmosphere is nostalgic. We have had several private parties both in the restaurant and in room. Each time the service has been impeccable and food delicious. I highly recommend the Plaza Lighting dinner for Thanksgiving.

Very elegant setting and food was delicious

The perfect dining experience when service is a priority. Unfortunately by the time we arrived for Easter Brunch the kitchen appeared to have a break down in communication. Both entrees were returned and sadly the second attempt at the halibut is pictured. Although cocktail/drink was paid for the stigma of returned food hinders a peaceful meal. The hostess staff and entire waitstaff is top notch but Javier is a gem and Omar aims to please. I think Mike could use some additional training in simply making the customer feel appreciated sincerely and not assuming a free meal(s) is the goal for returned food. Great pricing and Valet.

Food as usual of good quality, but the service, presentation, and timing on Easter brunch was abominable.20 minures to get a cup of coffee. Cream of Tomato soup served cool. Side pancakes literally cold. Hanger steak cold. Coffee itself lukewarm. Waited 30 minutes with half eaten plates just to get a check.

This is a classy place. Ribeye was delicious. Sea Bass was cooked well, plated with fashion and had well balanced taste. Calamarie was interesting. Lots of smiles from the staff. Atmosphere stimulates intellectual conversation. Loser digs this place!

This is a great restaurant for a nice, quiet evening with great food. Our server, Tara, provided impeccable service and the food was excellent. There was live music, but it was not loud and completely enjoyable. The atmosphere has been updated, but many of the original wood moldings were kept which may be a turnoff to some who are used to more recent restaurant offerings with modern decor. I found it to be a relaxing environment. Excellent french onion soup, full of flavor and the salmon I had was cooked to perfection with excellent flavor. It was my friends birthday and they brought out a creamy creme brulee topped with tea soaked blackberries and a candle. They comped the dessert and wished my friend a happy birthday. Great evening.

Everything was spectacular! We walked in without a reservation and they sat us right away, our server was incredibly nice and knew everything about the menu. The food was some of the best Ive ever had with portions sized perfectly, and even though in the end I got full, I still wanted to eat more. Definitely coming back whenever I make it back to the city!

First they were packed, and we didnt have a reservation. We went for dessert and after dinner drinks. Very nice greeting upon arrival, made us feel special even though they were very busy. They put together a very nice spot in the lounge, giving great service. Manager came by to welcome us and to thank us and checked back later to make sure all was good, it was a very nice evening. Dessert was fabulous.
