Great nature preserve for kids to learn and explore. The trails are fairly short but for little kids this was excellent. The trails were paved it raised boardwalks. Our kids enjoyed learning about saltwater marsh animals and really enjoyed the crabs.

Another nice surprise where youd least expect it! A great place to take kids, you can even launch a kayak or canoe (low tide can be problematic), fish of a pier, or just take a lunch, study or read a book! There are nice picnic areas with grills and a fun nature trail along with a pier. You can even put in a canoe or kayak if the tides high enough. Low tide really shows how the water levels change in the intercoastal water areas.

This is a nice little park if you arent looking for much activity. Theres a short path Island Trail that leads out to the intercoastal inlets. The piers are well taken care of and nice little overlooks to bird watch. Some other random ground wildlife has been spotted (crabs, rabbits, lizards, etc). There are nice little picnic areas with coal grills and a restroom facility. Not much for an all day adventure, but if youd like a few hours out of the house its great!

I really enjoyed my time in this little sliver of old Florida marsh, though it was hotter than the sun. Set near the beaches, youll find picnic areas and great walking trails with boardwalk. I was too hot to stop and read the survivor legend, but walked all the way out on the trail with animal tracks. There looked to be a visitor center, but I didnt check if it was open during COVID. Nice little spot for a quick picnic. Now Im going to look up the survivor legend like I said I would!

Cool little park in the heart of suburbia. Kayak launch at the end of the road. Areas to grill out and a large shelter/informative building. One long trail that goes into the marsh with a lifted trail overlooking the Intracoastal River. Few other trails along the woods leading to San Pablo.

Such a nice little escape from the city within the city. Its tucked away a bit and offers different trails and scenery. Great place for pictures and to discover birds and animals. Its quiet and Ive even come just to park my car and enjoy some lunch. Its kept up pretty well and can be busy at times.

The park has always been a nice place to go, but this most recent time there was trash everywhere and the bathrooms were incredibly disgusting. We really have to work together to keep this place clean its really sad how bad the place looked today compared to usual. The trails are still a great place to go and the dock is lovely.

Came here for a run, but unfortunately there were so many bugs that I couldnt. Its a nice place to walk around but not great to have a picnic or spend too much time because of the bugs eating you alive:/ it is a preserve though so it makes sense, and I saw a bunny which was cool!

Very nice place to take a walk, enjoy a quiet meal with family, or sit down and read a book. Very peaceful. The main trail only takes about 15 minutes to walk so dont expect a long treck. We did wish there was a little more to it, but it still is a gem tucked away in the middle of the city.

Nice area to enjoy the outdoors in Jacksonville. Cant believe it took me this long to find it, it really is a hidden gem! Small but nice pier to get to the water, offering some fishing access. Good spot to put in kayaks, canoes. Ample parking, really nice hiking trails (all paved, handicap accessible), great views, picnic tables and grills, nice signage, and some wildlife to encounter. Trash cans and such were a little full, otherwise it was a great place to go, cant wait to go back!

Awesome little walk and it was well maintained, its great for kids as well because there are little stops along the way to learn about local animals. Only gripe is the serious amount of dog poop on the sides of the walkway (once on the walkway). Pet owners need to bring their own waste bags and dispose of it like a responsible person.

I go hiking a lot and never use bug spray. I got maybe 5 min down the trail and I was being eaten alive. They looked like moths but they hurt like they were biting me. I ended up running back to my car and continually slapping my face and arms. It’s literally just a swamp

Nice park. The trails are paved/boardwalk, and just about a mile total, so very family friendly and perfect for little kids. The trail is interactive and educational for kids. Also a small fishing dock. Beautiful views of the salt marshes. Good spot for bird watching if you have patience. Clean park! Only complaint is the public bathrooms did not have toilet paper or working hand soap- please make sure bathrooms are clean and stocked for visitors!

This is a 300 acre preserve along the San Pablo River. The paths and trails take you around a marsh so if you go in the summer you may be eaten alive by bugs. We were there in January so were not bothered. We also did not see any snakes or gators which I believe you may have to look out for in the summer. The paved trails, natural trails, and boardwalks (and some overlooks) are very easy to walk and its not very long at all. The paved path is an interpretive trail for the kids (and the kid at heart like me) with different critter footprints painted on them. I only guessed one of the footprints correctly. They also offer a kayak launch so you can explore the marsh if you want to. The education center was closed when we were there so Im not sure what it offers. The only critters I saw were 2 great egrets but that was good enough for me.

My grandson loves going to Castaway to fish and catch crabs. It’s a great way for the two of us to bond and make great memories. I just wish that they would empty the cigarette butt containers more often, so that people can actually use them(not me)and empty the trash containers on a regular basis. There are homeless guys that hangout there but, they are harmless and polite. Go fish, walk, kayak or take great sunset photos. Have fun.

Very nice place to visit. Took the scout pack there for a nature walk and they loved it. There are foot prints from some of the local wildlife painted on the paved trail, and the kids really enjoyed guessing and learning about what prints belong to what local wildlife that can be found there. The trail took a hour and a half to walk, stopping along the trail to read the posts about the local wildlife. Theres a boat dock to launch from and fish at. I would like to add that people need to keep your trash with you until you get off the trail, there are trash cans to empty your trash into. Please help keep our wildlife preserves clean from our interference, the animals have a right to a clean house as well.

Quiet, scenic walk put to an unobstructed view of the beautiful marsh and intracoastal waterway. You can hike, there are picnic areas, public bathrooms, and even a kayak launch. All kinds of interesting and informative signs along the trail that explain the wildlife, trees and vegetation. Perfect for families even small children and strollers. Because the trail is concrete through the woods. Dog friendly but you must keep your dog on a leash.

This place has a trail that you follow. It has animal foot prints and you follow it to then receive information about that animal. I think it is fun and a great place to go with young children. It encourages kids to learn more about nature and to go outside more. Overall, it was an amazing experience. If youve passed it while driving and considered going (as most people do, including me), I completely recommend that you go. It is an eye opening experience for you and a must.

We arrived a little late in the day yet the lighting was absolutely perfect. The sounds of the birds were beautiful and made you feel like you were a million miles from civilization. When you get really close to the swamp area there was a mild odor but that is normal in swampland. The oyster beds were plenty and the birds seemed to be eating tiny fish right across from the little floating dock. I love the trails that are marked with birds feet and Alligators claw markings. The signs were very informative. Other people on the trails were very friendly. The views were amazing and its a great place to take children who are interested in nature. My son and I are exploring some of the historical parks and hiking trails in and around the Jacksonville area. This is our fourth one since last week. We are also joining in on the Jacksonville Rocks movement. It is amazing to find the beautiful rocks that other people have painted and hidden so we are now painting and hiding rocks along all of our journeys. We enjoy arriving home and sharing our photos. I hope you enjoy the photos that I have shared. Have a blessed night.
