This charming park will become a 5 star when all maintenance is completed. Right now they are replacing the damaged and rotten wood walkways.Because of that, some areas are closed, such as the tower and the nature center.Beware of slippery areas due to rain saturation. Some spots are flooded.Despite those little problems, this park is perfect for day gatherings, barbecues, hiking, biking, or just bringing the kids for fun. There are fully functioning bathrooms and outdoor running water.

The park was nice But a lot of mud and water in the trails But that wasn’t the problem Because nature is natural. So overall the park deserves 5 stars But my experience is what gave it one star. I was approached By some guy who had Been following me for some time down the trail and he tried to grab my privates. I obviously stopped him and struck him in the face but just the lack of park rangers was crazy. Like I had to search for a couple minutes before I ultimately found them and they asked me “did I contact the police”.... idk it’s not really there fault but I just feel as though they need more security to be present because it’s kids, ladies, and older folks at the park who could have been seriously hurt today

Great park. The “shady people” mentioned in the previous review are making much needed renovations to some of the boardwalk and repairing/adding in stairs so that people can easily walk from those boardwalks to the brick road without having to walk on unmarked paths.

Had a great time exploring the park. It has many wonderful things to do for all ages. We cant wait to bring our Granddaughter back to the playground. There was an archery club that we didnt get a chance to see. As well as a few other things. We however really enjoyed our time we did spend hiking around exploring.

This is a pretty nice park to have here so close, in Jacksonville. The observation tower loop is one mile and easy. The island loop is two miles of trails, a little more rugged, muddy, and remote. Im happy to ride my bike so close for a run in this little piece of wild.

The trail going to the tower is very nice and pretty easy. There are facilities available but bring hand sanitizer. The playground looked well maintained with plenty of picnic tables. The trails are dotted with benches and occasionally trashcans. The jets going over can be a bit loud but the wildlife didnt seem bothered. The dog park is very large with two sections. One for large, one for small breeds. Both parks seem to have drainage issues.

The park was a little messed up from last year’s storms, but the trip was still great. It was a great trek out to the lookout tower, though I imagine it will be that much better come spring. There were lots of armadillos burrowing about. I’m looking forward to returning when the butterfly garden is back in season.

I’m giving it four stars because of the combination of things it offers such as mountain biking trails, walking trails, history, information center, kids park, and an observation tower. It also has free entry. However, the mountain bike trails warrants more around three stars give or take. I also saw multiple people using the park as a place to hang out and get high.

It has always been a nice park, but the dog park is hit or miss. Bring your own water for you and the dogs. And out of the dog parks in Jacksonville, this one seems to attract the most people who are clueless of how to act at a park. Bring your own water, go early and be prepared to dip out of the dog park and walk on the trails because some of the people who come here are idiots.

Great park hidden just off the beaten path. Small nature museum open limited hours. Shaded parking. Plenty of shaded trails to wander around and end up at the tower. Stairs to climb with a landing before getting to the top. There are benches to sit on up there as well. This park is located on what use to be an army base. The are historical information signs. There are 2 restroom facilities, a playground for the younger kids, a dog walk, 2 hiking trails, 1 bike exclusive trail, a nature center, and many picnic tables. The walking trails at Tillie K. Fowler are great. The Tower Trail (blue) is an easy hike, you get to see/walk the historic brick road, and there is an expansive view from the top of the observation tower. The Island Trail (orange) is my favorite. Its quiet and less traveled than the tower trail. I havent hiked all of it yet, but from what I have done there are many different ecosystems to checkout with a wide variety of plants. Both trails are beautiful walks.

Review №56

The park has two main hiking trails. The blue trail is only 1.2 miles and the easier to traverse. There are several ramps and bridges that keep you dry even after a heavy day of raining. At the end of blue trail is about a 25-30ft tower it has a decent view but vould use some maintenence. It sways easly with just one person on it. The orange trail is 2.25 miles long and little rougher with only one bridge that crosses a creek. The orange trail is unique because it changes scenerys several times from more a tropical look to open forest to a part of bamboo. There is a playground for kids also which my kids seems to love and several picnic tables and six barbecue stands. The best part about this park. Is that i have yet to see more then a couple people here at a time any day of the week.

We had a great walk exploring the trails and we captured some great photographs of the air planes taking off and landing. The planes seem so close you can feel the heat from the engines and it seems like you would be able to reach out and touch them. The woods are very nice and the trail very interesting. We definitely spent a lot of time that day. I know us so I know that we will definitely return. At first glance I really didnt think that there would be hiking trails; because of the sports fields. I was mistaken. I very much enjoy trails that are clean and ready to stroll through as this one is. I think that we only encountered 3 other people who were taking the journey through the woods. My son and I were told that there was no trail to walk on by a friend but we closly follow the hikers guide and it claimed that there was a quiet trail that leads to water. Those are the best trails to get quality photographs of the sun going down. I think that any nature lover would agree that it is a nice trail.

Its a fun little trail. Not very big with the loop being about 2 miles. But it is small enough that you can do several loops. They have created some nice jumps and obstacles to make up for the flatness of the state.I would like to see the park operators to establish a loop direction per day. For example, clockwise on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday then counterclockwise on the other days to prevent potential collisions on the trail.

Great park. Love the trails. Love the dog park. There are blue dots on trees I guess to indicate that you are on the right track ?I decided to just keep walking until I run out of trail I guess and see everything (while staying close to blue dots )Got very lost somehow and ended up in the middle of no where . Did not know what to do at that point just was lucky I heard two people walking a distance away and they guided me back to the trail. Thank you if you are reading this.Anyway the trails can be more defined ? Or warnings put up so we know to turn back or something like that.Thanks. Love this park. Its me and my dogs favorite
